The way i do my diet is i eat 6 times a day. (grasses, and/or high quality, clean hay) Everyone has preferences for the type of hay, such as alfalfa, bermuda, orchard, etc., just make sure it's clean, dust and mold free, and make sure your horse will eat it! Some horses don't like certain hays, and won't touch them. Don't count flakes of hay, go by weight of the hay. Rather than going to high fat items, such as oils, or certain feeds, with added fats, try using good nutrition, instead. Fat equates to fake nutrition, since it adds weight, without any real nutritional value. (A horse's daily requirement of fat, is less than 5%.)There is a simple formula, for calculating how much to feed a horse, and it will work if you want one to gain weight, lose weight, or maintain it's weight, and it's based on feeding to a "goal body weight", or the weight you want the horse to weigh.
Based on a horse's workload, and it's general ability to maintain weight, a horse should be fed between 1 1/2% and 2 1/2% of it's goal body weight, in feedstuffs. (grass, hay, and grain/concentrates) It's best to start with 2% of it's goal weight, and you can re-evaluate the effectiveness, after 21 days, and make adjustments, if needed.

If you feel a need to use grain, feed a minimal amount, of 2 pounds, 2 times per day, of the best quality feed. I prefer pelleted feed, it digests better than whole grains. Feed 8 pounds, of clean, high quality hay, 2 times per day.
At the 21 day mark, evaluate how the horse is doing, and make any adjustments, up or down, as needed. Slow gain, is healthy gain, and avoids health problems, such as founder and colic.

I've started really concentrating on exersize & I want to do it right. From what I can tell the body can only build when in an anabolic state, and can only shrink when in a catabolic state, correct?Some articles say that you should build muscle and lose weight at the same time. They advice a high calorie hi protein diet, heavy weight lifting and aerobic excersize.
Others say that since your body can only effectively do one or the other, you should concentrate. to first focus on weight loss with a low calorie diet, lots of aerobic excersize, and weight lifting to maintain muscle mass and develop lean muscles, then once you are where you want to be weight wise, switch to the high calorie high protein diet to build muscle.
Any advice on which routine would be best?
Question two: if the latter routine is best, should protein supplements (I have one called muscle milk) be taken during the weight loss period, or should I put that off until the bulk up period? Thanks.

basically you can bulk (add muscles mass) and cut (trim fat) all in one but it is recommended you do one first then the other for best results. If you want to bulk first, buy protein powder and have 1 scoop in the morning and 1 straight after workout. Eat 8 meals a day, 1 every 3 hours. Consume 2g of both protein and carbs to 1 lb bodyweight.
If you want to cut first, buy protein powder, have 1 scoop in the morning and 1 straight after workout. Eat 3 meals a day, consume 1-1.5g of protein and less than 1g of carbs per lb of bodyweight.
As for routines regardless of whether you bulk or cut either do a strength (5x5 routine) or a size (3x8 hypertrophy routine) split over 4 days as - Chest/Tri's, Back/Bi's, Traps/Delts, Legs. Do abs on all your days off, along with cardio (do abs first though). Do more cardio if you are cutting, as you must use up more calories than you are eating.
Save muscles milk for when bulking because you will see better results that way, I'm not sure what this product is but if it contains lots of protein, try drinking 34g in the morning and straight after workout to top up protein levels, or just buy protein powder and have single scoop shakes (get chocolate flavoured).

what i have tried: weightwatchers, atkins, curves fitness centers, tae bo (all excesice is very painful in it has any leg and foot involvement so i can't do much of it it anymore) trim spa, fit usa, susan summers diet, treadmill,excersise bike, gisselle, green tea diet, grape fruit extract, cortislim, apple cider vinager,ephedra,chromium, prescription diet pills,and that isn't half of it......i have even tried amphetamines to boost metabolism with no luck.............
variious doctors, nutrutionists have been unable to find me a plan that was practical (no elaborate food preparation 3 times a day) that was tolerable and did not include foods that woudl aggrivate my allergies (dairy, wheat and all wheat-like grains, soy, yeast) or my hypoglycemia.
the eat less part is not helpful with my hypoglycemia.and for the guy who said eat less excersise more did you read a thing i wrote?

i'm eating more meals a day (6) and yet only having one serving at each sitting. so the mini meals will help your low sugar. because you'll be constantly inputting fuel. as for the meal servings. dont overstuff your plate. i have one serving and then throw the rest out! sometimes i give it to the dogs or the trash can. i've lost 15lbs! i swore i wouldnt weigh myself but i had to. and i was so happy!

What's the best way for a middle-aged woman to get some energy, and lose some weight?
I find it very difficult at my age (which isn't old at all really...I'm only 36!) to be energetic, and I also find it hard to lose weight. I'd like to take off about 50 or 60 lbs. If anyone has any ideas for a weight-loss regiment, I'd appreciate it. Morbidly obese, trying to lose weight.?
I'm 23, 24 next month, 6'3 and almost 400lbs.
I would like to get down to 250 or closest I can get to it by summer 2011. I'm on a healthy diet and starting to get into a work out regiment, and I was wondering if there are any supliments that can help lose weight a bit faster, maybe like a pre or post work out suppliment that can help me. I don't know much about weight loss pills/suppliments so i dont know what to take that is safe and most importantly that works. I'm not asking about those so called miricle pills that you take and youre magically thin. just something to help speed or just give me the edge to turn it around.thanks in advance.

Those answers are good, BUT...insufficient. A healthy diet high in Protein, vitamins, and minerals is essential. Cut out any binge eating. Smaller meals 4-6 times a day ALONE will boost your metabolism. Walking will do nothing for you other than slowly ruin your ankles while you loose a minimal amount of weight. I suggest getting a physical trainer, and a nutritionist. Any other way, your not going to have the motivation. Please don't take offense, but you were not strict enough on yourself thus far, you need some encouragement. Trust me, if you have someone else counting on you to follow through your much more likely to succeed. If the cost of having a trainer and a nutritionist is deterring you, the cost of Gastric Bypass surgery is upwards of 40,000 dollars, along with the constant health problems associated with obesity. You can do it! Rome wasn't built in a day, but you'll be amazed with how fast it will fall off once you start a workout program along with a fully specialized diet. I wouldn't suggest any type of weight loss supplements that have stimulants, which are devastating to your heart. I wish you nothing but luck, my friend. Does anyone know of a good weight loss cleanse?
I'm looking to lose weight, but even more so, i'm really looking to cleanse and detoxify my body. Dont worry, i know there are no "easy fixes" to weight loss, and will continue to work out at the gym durning my cleanse, i'm just looking for something that can give me a boost. I am also looking for a program that won't just help me shed the weight short term, but help me keep it off long term. i read up on the master cleanse but you are expected to gain back half the weight lost when you quit the cleanse. any suggestions would be great.
I also don't have much money, so i'm looking for something that doesn't require expensive suppliments. I am not very disiplined with food (hence why i am over weight) but i'm trying to teach myself will power.
I'd like to know from people who have tried the cleanses first hand and know that they work before i waste my time.

You pretty much just answered your own question. Detoxifying is important. But the real kicker is your diet......or what you eat. I know you don't want to hear that but it's the truth. Hear is your answer. Make dieting fun. Learn to cook foods that are low in fat and freaking delicccch. My fav is Thai food. Another thing is keep your diet balanced. 70% carbs and 30% carbs. eat all your carbs in the morning and during the day it will burn off. Eat the last set of carbs, a smaller amount, during lunch. This will all burn off by bed time. The rest is protein and veggies and fruit. Fruit not to much because of it's surgar content. Speed your metabloism up by eating 6 smaller meals a day. 3 main meals and 3 smaller snack type. And when you snack eat only protein type that is now in bad fat, don't worry about good fat like unsalted nuts. Like, beef jerky, almonds and other unsalted nuts and seeds. Cut soda and processed surgar totally from your diet. Also cut high sodium from your diet. Like don't chince and eat top ramon because it's cheap. Don't cheat and do your research. If you have a hard time staying diciplined it could be more psychological than physical. Go to psychology.com and research those issues as well. Be honest with yourself. You will succeed.

Herbalife people have cheated me by promising me for the Home-Based Business through which I can earn thousands of Dollars just from home. I have joined them to do the business and not to use the products. Then they told me to use the products for which they have forced me to pay Rs.2,225 and I have to use those food suppliments. Do Creatine and Whey Protein help with weight loss?
I worked my a$$ off in the gym this week but only lost 1 lb (I'm down to 263 from 310 in February). I've been taking Whey Protein and Creatine 189. I want to lose weight but allowed myself to get talked into taking Protein and Creatine by the gal at GNC. Do i need these two suppliments if I want to lose weight or should I just stick with Hydroxycut, Water Pills, and lots of Cardio?-

No. Creatine will have a bloating affect, keeping water inside of you. Though, I think you're more worried about losing body fat. Try the Ketogenic Diet for Bodybuilders.

Still stuck at current weight.... Any suggestions?
First off, let me say.... I'm not looking for encouragement. Thanks, but I've been working on this for 6 months, making life style changes and I'm not going to quit. BUT, I'm looking for something to break the plateau I'm stuck at weight wise.Just finished 90 days on Power 90. My diet is not perfect, but it is so much better than it was between portion size, choices in food, more water and waaay less sodas (I do splurg on 100 cal. of soda a day - I've gone without and that seems to negatively effect weight loss). My workout regime is 30-40 min. sessions 6 days a week alternating resistance training and cardio/intervals on the treadmill w/ core training on cardio days. Also take a multivitamin w/ weight control suppliments (generic version of One-a-Day Weight Smart).
I'm only 6-8 lbs. over my ideal weight according to BMI.
Looking for suggestions on how to lose those last few pounds. Ideas or suggestions?

Losing weight is mainly psychological, not physical. Keep this in mind and read what I am going to tell you, and you'll lose weight. I told these to my sister and she called me an extremist. Then she paid Jenny Craig 0 and came back and told me that most of the stuff they taught her were things I said, but with graphs and charts and a nicer tone.There are certain foods that you have to remove from your diet. If you're a smoker and you're constantly short of breath, you can do deep-sea diving exercises and take pills to help with your lungs, but the best thing to do is to stop smoking, right? Obviously. So now apply this to food. The best way to lose weight is to stop eating foods that make you gain weight or unhealthy.
The following tips will make you lose weight.* ALWAYS read labels before you buy or eat something. If it has too much saturated fat (if the DV or Daily Value is more than 5%), too much sugar (more than 1-2g) and if the ingredients or "made with" says "corn syrup" or "high fructose corn syrup" or "fructose" or "sucrose" -- DO NOT BUY OR EAT.
* Don't buy into "LOW FAT" or "NO FAT!" labels. Companies get around this by using artificial sweetners and other things which aren't healthy. This is how business works, and it's your responsibility to take care of yourself.
* But if you drink milk, make sure it is no-fat or low-fat. Regular dairy products are very very fattening. Keep this in mind when you eat cheese, yogurt, cereal, etc. A great (but more expensive) alternative is soy milk.
* Never eat anything fried. No baked potato chips either. Citing my smoking example above, this is like moving to a light cigarette. Cut the unhealthy food out if you want to lose weight.
* Nothing made using white flour. No white bread, no pasta, no speghetti, etc. Whole wheat (brown flour) is OK but try not to have too much. It's essential for health but too much will make you gain weight. If you exercise a lot, then you can increase your consumption of whole wheat products.
* Never drink ANY type of soda or soft drink. Even if the label says '0 sugar' like some flavored seltzer water popular now, look at the ingredients, it will have a sweetner like Sweet 'n Low or Aspartame (which is a new sweetner in use now that has been shown to cause cancer in animals)
* Diet soda is terrible for your body and brain. NO SODA OF ANY KIND <- This is the single best thing you can do to control your weight. Soda contains a very high percentage of high fructose corn syrup. Again, this is like smoking light cigarettes. Soda should be eliminated 100% from your diet.
* No more oil or dressing on your salad (unless you read the label and confirm it's healthy).
* Don't eat corn and limit potatoes to one or two a week. Try to eat a lot of raw green vegetables (you'll acquire a taste for them) and negative-calorie foods (these are foods that require more calories to burn than they provide, making you lose weight directly) like celery.
* Drink very cold water if you can. Your body will need to use up energy to warm it up before it can digest it.
* Eat slowly so food is digested better, and try to maintain scheduled times for eating, also eat less by filling up your plate 3/4ths instead of trying to fit as much on it as you can.
* If you're constantly hungry, have a fruit or vegetable. Some teas are good, but stay away from caffeine.
* Take a multi-vitamin daily.
* Try not to use depressants and stimulants. These drugs might get rid of your appetite but when the effects wear off, you'll likely feel very agitated and hungry and eat whatever is available. Certain drugs are OK if you have to use them (psychedelics for example) but stay away from tobacco (a stimulant), and if you drink alcohol, take shots instead of drinking beer (fattening).
* DO NOT use appetite supprements, natural or not. 99% of them don't do anything, and the other 1% are stimulants are barely effective.
Make it your lifestyle to eliminate these things from your diet. Stop hanging out at fast food joints and keep a bottle of water with you at all times.
Don't fall into peer pressure or get discouraged. Losing weight is 90% psychological. It's a test of knowledge and will-power. Now you know what you shouldn't eat, and it's up to you to make sure you follow up on it if you want to lose weight.Take care, and good luck!
