What are some good weight loss methods. This summer I plan on getting into the best shape of my life. Right now I am in the best shape of my life probably but I'm 175 pounds at around 5 feet and 10 inches. I wanna cut down to atleast 160 and make a lot of it muscle. Two summers ago I was around 210 and cut down to about 180. I've been on and off with gaining and loosing weight. Exactly what you plan on doing. Everyone seems to think that muscle gain is magical. If you do cardio you WILL lose weight and if you lift you WILL gain muscle. Its as simple as that.
The main thing is you do want to make up this huge workout schedule and not follow through with it. Start simple with running every morning. Once you can handle that and you want some more, you can bring in longer runs or longer lifting sequences. The biggest problem with people trying to lose weight is they want to do it as fast as possible so they end up making a schedule that is way to complex for them to handle so they stop working out within the first week. As long as you start small and keep at it, you will lose weight.
Cardio + sweat = weight loss
Lifting + calorie intake = muscle gain

I am 6 feet tall, and saw that 150-170 was around the estimated range for my height, but muscle weighs more than fat, I want to lose fat and turn it into muscle so it's not really a "lose weight" only issue, because I would probably lose fat and weigh the same because I am pretty big dude, broad shoulders, etc., but it would be muscle instead of fat.

This is the fastest (healthiest) but not the easiest.
First off, DO NOT take diet pills. They can do some serious harm to your heart. Plus they don't work & they're a waste of money.
Here's what you do for quick weight loss plus you will feel better:Cut out all breads, pasta, cookies, cereals, crackers, chocolate, sweets, icecream, cakes, pizza, all fast food etc...basically anything made from flour & away from sugar. They are all called simple carbs. They are carbs which leave us hungry for more & that's what makes us fat. Go on a "gluten free" diet...You will lose weight & not gain if you're careful to eat correctly.
We need to have complex carbs. (fruits, veggies, salads, protein.) Have lots of fruits & veggies.
If you want a snack like crackers or something...go buy gluten free rice cakes from health food store. Snack on 1 or 2 a day. The only sweet you can have is maybe a tbsp of honey on a rice cracker. Just don't have more than one.
Also you can buy gluten free flour from the health food store & make your own bread.
Make sure you have ahead of time (like night before) cut up carrot sticks to munch on the following day. You can put lemon on them for more taste.
Avoid cold cut meats. No ham, sausages, mortadella, salami, pepperoni, etc...If you can, stay away from dairy products...believe it or not:dairy makes us fat too...like a cow.
By doing this...you will lose lots of weight.
I'll give you an example of what to eat okay.?breakfast: 1 banana & 1 kiwi or orange
cup of coffee or tea (no milk or sugar)
drink 2-3 glasses of waterlunch: grilled chicken or turkey breast(portion should be the size of your palm) w/ some lemon squeezed on it...mmm I like lemon
romaine lettuce salad, tomato, grn onions, grated carrot, radish & whatever other green you like in there. Dressing should be balsamic vinegar or wine vinegar w/ olive oil.
stay away from ketchup, mayo & bbq. sauceor you can have stir fried veggies w/ rice...also very good. You can eat rice but not pasta.
snack:14 walnut halves or 20 almonds
a fruit
lots of water
some teadinner: hamburger or fish w/ brocolli or spinach
you can have 1 or 2 rice crackers (or save them before bedtime)
lots of water
cup of chamomilebefore bed: pray to the Lord to help you lose weight. To give you self control. Keep asking until you receive. The Lord hears you & loves you.
The secret to success is to be "organized & committed".
You should have your salad, greens & veggies washed & cut up the night before so it's ready to eat for lunch the next day.
Make sure you have bought all your ingredients/food the day before.Take a multi-vitamin & calcium every day.
It's not impossible to do...just believe you can do it.
Don't forget to exercise, drink lots & lots of water & you will see results.

To lose 44 pound in 5 months is attainable. But, with out exercise not advised. When you reduce your calories intake only; after a period of time your metabolism will just down shift to adapted to the lower energy intake.Find an activity that you enjoy. My niece lost 35 pounds over the summer before beginning law school. All she did was increase her intake of fruits and vegetables. She also would take her dog for long walks in the park.
Losing weight is not easy. If that was the case more of us would be thin.

For me, half the battle is the grocery store. All that yummy stuff just waiting to be bought!Use a list when you shop. Sticking to a list will help you avoid splurging on those snack chips.
Keep your healthier snack foods closer to the front and eye level of your fridge. Hide the cookies and chocolates in the back near the bottom.
Get a timer or a stop watch. When you feel hungry or have the munchies, set it for 5 to 10 minutes. When it goes off IF you still feel hungry then go grab yourself a (healhty) snack.

Diets don't work. Lifestyle changes do work.I'd love to contribute information and experience if you are providing sound guidance to your readers. Make sure to read books by Dr. Dean Ornish for some excellent scientific research on diet. Often, money-making diets are based on speculation rather than scientific research. We are in a profit-driven culture.
There are many wacky diets out there including some that work (like food combining). This works because you are forced to choose your foods carefully. Read the book "Fit for Life" by the Diamond for information about his less conventional approach.
The most boring approach is probably the most effective. It's is a low fat vegetarian diet as recommended by Dr. Dean Ornish (a heart specialist). His diet helps prevent high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, some cancers, and Type II diabetes.
I've had remarkable luck with the following which is my own adaptation:
+ Eat whole grains, brown rice, beans, vegetables, and fruit. Make sure to get a little oil through some vegetarian source like nuts or avocado. Otherwise, minimize fats/oils.
+ Control portion sizes by keeping track of calories. I just keep track in my head. This is a lifestyle change, not a temporary fix. If you eat too few calories or too many calories, this will hurt your diet. Remember that humans evolved through periods of feast and famine. Those who retained body fat during feasts survived. Today, we are in perpetual feast mode and our genetics have not adapted to this.
+ For health, get 30-60 minutes of aerobic exercise every day. Look up "aerobic exercise" and "heart rate."
+ For body shape, free weights are great. "Body for Life" is very helpful for body toning exercises. I'd ignore the diet part of this book.
+ Avoid excitotoxins like MSG or aspartame. MSG is fed to laboratory rats to make them fat. These substances have caused neurological damage to laboratory animals. Monsanto is evil (but you cannot publish that fact).
+ Minimize fats (vegetable and animal sources), sugars, refined carbs, milk, meat, and processed foods. Small quantities occasionally are OK. Milk in US usually contains genetically modified bovine growth hormone. Milk is not the best source of calcium, in fact, the proteins can deplete calcium from bones in adult humans. Milk has been linked to childhood diabetes as well. Milk is totally unnecessary for a healthy diet and many people believe dairy is unhealthy (allergies, calories, and intolerance, fats, and proteins).
The problem is that the most profit can be found by selling the cheapest product that tastes the best. The short-cut are "natural flavors" which are toxic (excitotoxins), refined carbs, and also fats and salt. These make cheap food products that are very tasty and very profitable.
The truth about food is obscured by heavy handed industry money machines. That includes wackos like the Atkins money machine.

Reduce your calorie intake to 1500 calories. You'll lose a few pounds a month.

6 large green onions
2 green peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
3 Carrots
1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
1 bunch of celery
half a head of cabbage
1 package Lipton soup mix
1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.
Directions:Slice green onions, put in a pot and start to saute with cooking spray.
Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take the seeds and membrane out. Cut the green-pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot.
Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, add to pot.
Clean carrots, cut into bite size pieces, and add to pot.
Slice mushrooms into thick slices, add to pot.
If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper now.
You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. These have all the salt and flavors you will need.
Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time - two hours works well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Day One:
Fruit: Eat all of the fruit you want (except bananas). Eat only your soup and the fruit for the first day. For drinks- unsweetened teas, cranberry juice and water.Day Two:
Vegetables: Eat until you are stuffed will all fresh, raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try to eat leafy green vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas and corn. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner, reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter. Do not eat fruit today.Day Three:
Mix Days One and Two: Eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you want. No Baked Potato.Day Four:
Bananas and Skim Milk: Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you would like on this day, along with your soup. This day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets.Day Five:
Beef And Tomatos: Ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomtoes. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash the uric acid from your body. Eat your soup at least once this day. You may eat broiled or baked chicken instead of beef (but absolutely no skin-on chicken). If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef one one of the beef days (but not both).Day Six:
Beef and Vegetables: Eat to your heart's content of beef and vegetables this day. You can even have 2 or 3 steaks if you like, with leafy green vegetables. No Baked Potato. Eat your soup at least once.Day Seven:
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables: Again stuff, stuff, stuff yourself. Be sure to eat your soup at least once this day.some of the veggies, such as the mushrooms, are optional and since your friend is vegetarian, she can substitute the steak for a few boca burgers or meatless chicken, turkey, etc. anything with lots of protien and low fat content. if she is not already on a medication for her condition, i highly reccomend she talk to her doctor. i am on synthroid (which i think is generic, but im not sure) and it really helps me not be so tired all the time. CURVES also helped me a lot. the music they play is very motivating and the people are very friendly. if shes not into that kind of music, she can listen to her mp3 or ipod.
