There are many false truths about losing weight. So what are the facts about weight loss. Here we list our Top 10 of fat loss facts. Which ones do you think are true or false?
1. Eating in the evening is bad for you – not if you exercise in the evening after work. If you do exercise late, you need to refuel your muscles; otherwise your performance may not be as good for your next workout. The science – glycogen is a substance stored in bodily tissue as a store of carbohydrates. Low glycogen equals poorer performance
2. Saunas will help you lose weight – if anything they result in dehydration so you need plenty of liquid during and after otherwise your next workout will be quite poor
3. Eating less carbs will help me lose weight – if you reduce your intake in carbohydrates you will have less energy. You may also start to lose muscle. See point 1 on Glycogen. With carbs, it’s key that you focus on the right carbs. There are both good and bad but do not skip on carbs
4. I’m going to start this new celebrity diet – why? Most of them will results in rapid weight loss, which is generally water rather than fat and as soon as you stop your fad diet, you go back to your old habits and put the weight back on again. If you allow your metabolism to slow, burning fat will also slow
5.Eating lots of protein (for example, chicken) will results in more muscle – yes you should eat lots of protein, but there’s a limit – 2 grams per kilo of bodyweight as a guide. Anymore and you may put on weight instead through fat
6. I want to lose weight fast – if that’s the case you are more likely to put in back on. If you lose weight fast, especially early on in a diet, it’s more likely to be excess water due to dehydration. The process is then followed by losing muscle rather than fat. This then impacts any exercise you are trying to do which will slow down the impact to losing body fat
7. Weight training will add muscle and hence add weight – resistance training with weights is very important for you and should be included if possible as part of your exercise routine. Twice a week is good enough. As your body goes through the process of building muscle, in turn it will burn calories and hence lose body fat
8. I will skip breakfast and wait until lunchtime so I have fewer calories – if you do not eat regularly, your metabolism will slow and hence your body will not burn fat, instead it will store it. Again, back to Glycogen, those carb stores will go down and you will have a lot less energy. If you can it’s best to eat little and often, but do not skip meals
9. Muscle may become fat –they are two completely different tissue types. Exercise will maintain or increase muscle tissue, depending on the type of exercise and reduce fat
10. Avoiding fat will help my weight loss program – there is both good and bad fat. By all means avoid bad fat, hydrogenated fat, saturated fat etc., but your body needs some fat in your diet so focus on good fat, such as olive oil. Reducing fat too far will again reduce your workout performance and impact your weight loss routine
I do hope this list helps you think through how you approach your diet and weight loss program. Eat healthily, eat regularly and exercise

QUESTION:
Facts about Steroid and weight gain/loss supplements?
I'm doing a project on weight gain and weight loss supplements and I wanted to know just straight up facts, no essays or paragraphs. Any facts?-
ANSWER:
Steroids do exactly what your bodies natural hormones do (only to a greater extent). They help build muscle and burn fat. By eating right a person can get very similar results to mild steroids. You need to get enough good fats because they are responsible for the production of anabolic hormones like testosterone and growth hormone. If you eat to many carbs (especially bad ones) you will greatly suppress the release of these hormones due to elevated insulin levels. However, if you spike your insulin levels a couple times a week now that you have elevated hormones (due to replacing some carbs with good fats), it can be very anabolic. It might be a good idea to include in your essay what a person could do to increase their natural anabolic hormones, because when you eat an anabolic diet it blows away any supplement, period. Other than steroids of course, but they are harmful if used long term.

QUESTION:
I'm confused about weight loss.i want facts,help?
i'm 14 years old,5'5 and 127 pounds.
i thought that to lose weight i had to exercise more and eat less.but now i've read some articles and advertisements(i'm talking about this: http://www.thedietsolutionprogram.com/burnfatg.aspx) i don't know what's the truth for how to lose weight.I'm afraid for gaining weight because i promised to my dance teacher that i will be 110 pounds until September.
so can you tell me some facts about weight loss and advice what to believe/do-eat?
thnx-
ANSWER:
You should do a lot of cardio to burn fat, and you should eat less, but not TOO much less. Too much less and your metabolsim slows down. When you eat, make sure it is healthy food-- fruits, veggies, lean protein like chicken, and whole-grain breads. Try to eat several times throughout the day, like divide your lunch in half and eat half of it at 11, half at 1, instead of the whole thing at 12. I use this website, http://caloriecount.about.com/ it is free and it helps tell you how much you need to eat and whether you have eaten too much.

QUESTION:
making a weight loss binder for a friend; any really important health facts i should include?
im making a binder for my friend who feels she needs to lose weight. are there any especially important things i should include for effective teen weight loss? thanks;]-
ANSWER:
eat a light breakfast in the morning
either cereal or a grain bar or something.
stay away from the fatty foods
chips,chocolate,soda,etc.
soda is bad even diet.
If she drinks alot of soda and tends she needs one here and there,
drink diet.
If she drinks milk, tell her to drink skim.
Regular milk is bad for you at some point,
its very fatty.
Also, try to have her not drink so much juice like those other people said.
Juice is full of sugar! and its not good for the stomach after awhile.
Have her eat healthy at lunch,
ecspecially if you have a salad bar.
Tell her to eat small portions...
-small breakfast
-light/healthy lunch
-a snack after school (fruit or something light)
-eat light dinner
NO DESERTS EVERYDAY.
(maybe once or twice a week)
thats if she eats deserts.what also helps is what time she eats. It's bad to eat dinner really late.
try to have dinner around 5-6:30. It helps trust me.
alos, work out.
everyday when I'm at home I do some simple
excersise for about a half hour before i go to bed
(maybe workout an hour or less before you go to bed)
have her do some crunches, push ups, wall push ups, more crunches, or even dancing if she likes dancing, and theres so much moreee.
hope this helps!P.S. she has to keep at it for it to work.

QUESTION:
what part of the "nutrition facts" label is the most important for weight loss?
i usually look at the number of calories. anyone else have a good reason for why they look at their particular part of the label? for weight control and loss purposes
what is a good indicator of "way too much" fat or sugar? when i think for sugar, i think 10 or 15 is much, and fat i'm not so sure. should i look at grams or %?-
ANSWER:
the most important for overall health is trans fat (you should keep those to as close to zero as possible)
If you're trying to lose weight (i.e. fat) you should look at sugar and fat content. Also you want to limit your overall carbs (or better yet, only eat carbs from fruits and whole grains).
You should read the ingredients and refrain buying items where HFCS (High Fructose Corn syrup) is one of the first ingredients.
One note: the % are based on a USRDA (U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance) for a 2000 calorie diet. I'd take the % for carbs and fat and try to stay <50% for the day. Take the protein % and at least double it.

QUESTION:
Professional weight loss program (facts)?
Im pretty sure their are many new diets of the day popping up everywhere but what Im looking for is a long healthy and proven program that works. Im not looking for losing a whole bunch of weight for the High School Reunion or that event next week. These are my dimensions, Im 5'3 (stocky built) and 170 lb. I like the type of work out that are not conventional in the sense that it requires balance, strength, and coordination at the same time. Im not stupid either when it comes to knowing how long it takes your body to figure out it doesn't need a certain exercise anymore or until it needs a new diet. I just want a professional opinion on is it necessary to work out 5-6 times a week or can it be confined to 2-3 thoughtfully and balanced workouts. Balanced foods (how many times & what times), work out in morning or night. The little things that make a big difference. I am committed to change and don't want to be fooled into a plan that dosent work so please give creditable advice. Thanks-
ANSWER:
I'm no professional but here's what works for me:It's really very simple.
There are 2 categories of workouts and you only need to focus on one of those for weight loss.
1. Resistance training - weight lifting, sit-ups, push-ups, etc.
2. Cardiovascular Training - walking/running, swimming, jumping jacks, dancing to the oldies, etc.
You need only to focus on #2 for weight loss. #1 is good for muscle tone but does little for weight loss.
Cardiovascular exercises are simple and you don't need any fancy equipment. For successful weight loss, all you need to do is any body movements that get your heart rate higher than normal. That's what cardiovascular workouts are all about. They simply get your heart rate up and burn off fat.
You will need to keep your heart rate up for longer than 20 minutes per session in order to achieve a successful burn. The body takes that much time to warm up and begin the burn. Any huffy-puffy activity will work such as walking, running, going up and down stairs, vigorous dancing, jumping rope, just anything that makes you huff and puff. That's the key - huff and puff for over 20 minutes a session. This is how your body burns off fat.
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FOR ADVICE ON THE SAFEST WORKOUT FOR YOU.
Don't get discouraged!
Contrary to popular TV, there is no such thing as "targeting" an area of your body for weight loss. The reality is that you will see the fattest part of your body lose weight last! You will notice it first in your face. The thickest fat is the last to go so don't lose heart if you don't see your “targeted area” going anywhere at first.
Simply create a huffy-puffy workout for yourself that lasts over 20 minutes per session and stick to a daily routine for best results.
Another tip is don't rely on what the scales say everyday. That will discourage you. The better way to monitor your progress is to observe your clothes getting looser. The scales can be misleading because as you lose weight, typically you are also building muscle mass. This dual change may look like you are not losing fat when you actually are.
Checking your heart rate. Take your fingers of your left hand and place them about an inch to the right of the center of your right hand wrist as it faces palm up. This should be at your right-hand wrist below your thumb. You should feel a pulse there. Now count the number of beats in a 6 second period. Multiply that number by 10 and that's your heart rate. A reasonably safe and effective heart rate during an exercise burn is about 120 for most people 30–50 years old.
A bland diet will speed the weight loss up for sure. But if you're like me, starting a daily exercise program plus starting a bland diet is just too emotionally stressful (wink, wink). So, I say, for those of us who want some type of reward for working out everyday, continue enjoying your favorite foods - just cut your portions down. Train yourself to learn when you are satisfied as you eat a meal and stop eating at that point rather than eating until you feel full. You'll be surprised at how early in the meal you are satisfied. So, just stop eating at that point. Make a habit of it.
I am a 52 year old male and I am using a programmed treadmill which uses a combination walk/ 5 mph. run workout for 30 minutes a day. I am losing 2-3 pounds a week just doing that and cutting my favorite food portions back the way I mentioned before. My peak heart rate during this routine is 140. (Just telling you this in hopes that it will give you some idea of what 30 minutes a day will do for you so you can adjust your workout to suit your targeted weight loss time frame.)
Good luck! I hope this helps.

QUESTION:
Can you give me the facts please (WEIGHT LOSS)?
I've tried everything for weight loss lately ranging from 1200-2200 calories a day/minimal working out-2 hrs running a day and can't seem to lose weight. The only way I lost it before was:1000 calories a day (of healthy foods+a vitamin like always)
and STILL working out to keep up my metabolism
but only for 2 weeks.I lost about 6 lbs before. Is this ok? Can I go for a month like this?
Thnx.
-
ANSWER:
Hi,You said that you are working out. What kind workout are you doing ?Weight loss is not immediate unfortunately. However, the fact that you are working out is already helping to increase your metabolism rate and burning fat. I will explain further down.
First, your diet. You said you are eating 1000 calories a day. But are you eating small meals constantly throughout the day or are you eating just one big meal with 1000 calories ? It makes a difference ! If you are starving yourself the entire day and only taking one meal a day, your body will be locked into "store fat" mode. It will cause the body to think that there is no food so it will slow down the fat burning process. The recommendation is to take small meals throughout the day (About 6 meals a day) .. This will increase the body metabolic rate. You don't have to eat a lot per meal. Just a few slices of high fibre bread with some lean cuts of meat .. or just fruits will do. The trick is to fill it with high fibre food so you will get food faster and you will stay full longer so you eat less.
Now, back to your workout, if you are doing running or walking which are basically aerobics exercises, you can try to incorporate anaerobic exercises like resistance training. Lifting light weights or using resistance tubes which you can easily buy at any exercise store and use them in your daily exercise routines. Not only will you tone the muscles, your fat burning engine in your body will increase the amount of fats you will burn because you are building muscle.
The initial weight loss that you have experienced is due to the loss of water weight. You do lose water in the beginning that's why you are getting lighter. But fats are more difficult to lose. If you stick to my recommended routine and with some time, you will see results !
I was sticking to this routine with the help of my weight loss hypnosis therapist since I took up a weight loss hypnosis program half a year back. I don't know if it was my routine or my weight loss hypnosis program that made the difference, but after attending a few sessions of weight loss hypnosis programs, I feel that I am extremely motivated to follow through my diet and my exercises routines. (I used to be very lazy) .. I saw results and it worked for me. I'm losing weight with hypnosis help .. perhaps if you are interested you can too .
Good Luck !

QUESTION:
What causes the drastic weight loss which often precedes (and can indicate)a cancer diagnosis?
Often people get a drastic weight loss just before being diagnosed with cancer and in fact sudden weight loss is a cancer danger signal. Since all cancers are not gastric in origin, yet the weight loss seems to be common wherever in the body the cancer eventually turns out to be, what is it that causes weight to drop off?-
ANSWER:
Depending on where the cancer is located, the disease itself may interfere with the gastrointestinal tract or cause imbalances in the body by overproducing or underproducing hormones that control metabolic activities. Cancer cells can produce toxins in the body to make you lose your appetite. Your body may also be expending a lot of energy trying to fight off the cancer. It can also be stress related.

QUESTION:
are my facts about weight loss and fitness correct?
im male 35 years old
162lbs
11% body fatusing this bmr calc
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/my body needs 2650 calories a day to stay the same weight
with 11% body fat , that means i have aprox 18lbs of fat and 1% is equal to 1.62lbs (1% of 162lbs)
1lb of fat is approx 3500 calories
so if i comsume approx 1350 cals a day
that leave 1300 cals my body burns a day ( comsume 1350 - need 2650)in 1 week my body will burn 1300 x 7 days = 9100 cals
if 1lb of fat eqauls 3500 cals then i should loose about 2.5lbs a week
9100 / 3500 = 2.6-
ANSWER:
In theory, yes but there are lots of variables!
For instance, your current level of activity and fitness.... I think you should aim to have more calories, as your body will go in to starvation mode if you're not ingesting enough.
The best way to lose weight, dude, is to eat healthily and exercise. Stay away from processed foods and alcohol.
Only you know the true amount of calories you can subsist on before you gain weight. Averages and bmi calculations are guides, but are not always completely accurate.
Aim to lose between 1-3 lbs a week to stay healthy and don't put any unnecessary strain on yourself and your organs by cutting your food intake drastically.
Good luck

14, 5 foot 7, 150, mostly belly fat, with a some leg fat, i'm a Guy not a girl

Unfortunately, I have no idea about the green tea question but I can give you some simple tips on dieting:*You're doing great by drinking lots of water! That's the best thing you can do for your body. It greatly improves your skin as well.
*When you go out at restaurants, only eat HALF of what's on your plate. America is the worst about giving portions that are way too big - which leads to Americans that are way too big!!
*Exercise in small ways - for example, if you usually take the elevator, use the stairs instead. If you drive, park further away so you are forced to walk a little. Every little bit helps.

QUESTION:
Weight loss plan, Can you please confirm it's effectiveness?
Based on a lot of research from valid sources, I have devised a weight loss plan by utilizing some weight loss facts in conjunction with each other, in order to (hopefully) achieve the best possible result. Please let me know if for some reason these things are conflicting with one another. So this is basically to do the following:
- Cardio exercise first thing in the morning (you are burning stored carbohydrates for energy).
- Then have breakfast (large portion of the carbs/sugar/fat will go towards restoration after the exercise).
- Continue the day with small portions of food for: Brunch, Lunch, Tea and Dinner. (To boost the metabolism).
- Another block of exercise between Tea and Dinner (to have completed MINIMUM 30 minutes for the day).
- Have dinner (before 7.30, allowing plenty of time for it to be burnt off) which should be the least fattening meal of the day and equally small portion to the rest. Please share your thoughts/opinions on whether or not this is the road to success. Thanks in advance x
-
ANSWER:
This is not a bad structure, but I'd argue that the large portion of carbs/sugar/fat is contraindicated by the nutrition researchers I most respect: Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, and Dr. Dean Ornish. An ideal diet consists of:
- Leafy greens
- Whole grains (I avoid wheat, commercial breads, and other gluten grains)
- Legumes (Some nuts, peas, beans) sprouted and cooked
- Colorful vegetables, raw and steamed
- Whole fruits (not de-fibered juice)
- B12, D3, and Flax seed (Omega-3)I would avoid excess oil (including vegetable oils) because these do not have much nutrition and contribute calories and problems for your cardiovascular system. (Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr.) Of course eat flax seed for Omega-3 fatty acids. If you need a boost of sugar, eat a whole fruit, like an apple or other whole fruit. The fiber slows the absorption of the sugars. Processed/convenience foods tend to be unhealthy. Avoid MSG, aspartame, and refined carbohydrates. Even food dies and preservatives have been known to trigger allergies.
Beans and brown rice at breakfast this morning will hold my blood sugar level steady through the early afternoon.

QUESTION:
Weight loss and how it effects tattoos?
I am currently trying to lose weight... quite a lot of weight in fact... around 3/4 stone. I've heard that weight loss can effect the appearance of a tattoo... I was wondering how? I am planning on getting a freddy krueger portrait tattoo in black and white on my upper arm but I was wondering how it would look once I'd lost weight? can anyone explain what happens to me?-
ANSWER:
Since you will only be losing about 10lbs (unless you meant 3 to 4 stone) it wouldn't affect the look very much. For the most part losing weight is only going to affect a tattoo if it's on an area where your skin is stretched such as on your stomach, hips, thigh, etc. and only if you are really overweight. If it is on skin that is stretched, the tatoo will look kind of shrivelled when you lose the weight, or if you are skinny and gain lots of weight the tattoo will stretch out and look really weird. On your arm it probably won't change the look since there likely isn't much fat on your arms. However, if you'd rather be safe just wait till you lose the weight and use the tattoo as a reward for yourself!!!

QUESTION:
Can zoloft cause weight loss/loss of appetite?
I was just given zoloft to take in conjunction with my abilify to treat depression symptoms that are arising. I was just reading some info on zoloft & read that weight loss was a possible side effect. The most important thing is that it helps with the depression but since I am 12 lbs overweight, this would be an added plus for me. I was just wondering, has any of you lost weight while taking zoloft or know if it can in fact cause weight loss? Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Zoloft can deffinately have the side effect of weight loss and loss of appetite. I know that my appetite has diminished since I've been taking it. However it's different for everyone. A lot of people say that they actually have GAINED weight on it. Just remember to excercise and eat healthy on the meds. That will help you maintain your weight and help the medicine to balance out your serotonin. Good luck!

QUESTION:
wot are ur facts and theorys on weight loss?
also does anyone know anything on trying to lose weight on hips?-
ANSWER:
Love your name... I'm sure you are!The fact about weight loss is that you will lose weight if you eat right. This is not easy but it can be done. Cut back or eliminate all fatty foods, including snacks, desserts and meat. Sometimes, cutting back on one meal is enough to make a big difference. I used to eat a full lunch every day and was slowly gaining weight. So I switched to eating some carrots and an apple for lunch (no fat, low calories) and lost 12 pounds in a couple of months.
Exercise is another side of the weight-loss equation. Try to walk at least 30 minutes a day. Walking at a fast pace is better than a slow stroll. Take the stairs instead of escalators or elevators. Pick a sports activity you like and try to stick with it, such as soccer, hiking, volleyball, swimming, biking, softball, even bowling.
If you control your diet and get more exercise, you will look better, feel better, have more energy and live longer. Those are the facts about weight loss.

QUESTION:
Link between gaunt face and weight loss?
Well, its a known fact that dramatic weight loss causes the face to look somewhat gaunt - bony and such. But, if one was to lose weight slowly, would that prevent, even minimise gauntness?-
ANSWER:
Well, it's not the speed of the weight loss that causes gauntness, it's the amount of weight loss. You are right about dramatic weight loss causing a gaunt look, but when you say dramatic, I am assuming you mean a lot in a short amount of time. It is the "a lot" part, not the "short amount of time" that causes the gaunt face.In short, you cannot avoid a gaunt face through slowing the speed of weight loss, but instead by making sure you do not lose too much weight.
If you are concerned about appearing gaunt after weight loss, all I can suggest is that you aim for a healthy weight range. Unless you are genetically inclined to have a bony, prominent facial structure, this should not be a problem.
Cheers...!

QUESTION:
Does your metabolism in fact slow down with weight loss, and if it does is it permanent?
I know that they say that extreme diets or diets in general slow your metabolism, but I feel that this doom and gloom message perpetrated by the diet industry to ensure that after people lose weight they feel doomed to be fat. (This subconsciously sets them up) I got thinking about this when I watched an episode of biggest loser and one of the contestants hit a plateau and was advised to in fact eat more to rev the metabolism up.-

QUESTION:
How fast do anorexics loose weight.?
I'm doing a paper for school and could really use some good insight. I need to know things such as how long does it take to loose weight from when they first start restricting, over all weight loss facts, caloric intake, general diet of anorexic, and links would be great as well!! thanks!!-
ANSWER:
Well I was horribly anorexic in fifth grade. Before I started restricting I weight 91 pounds. I started out by taking wheat and dairy from my diet.. and it led to obsessing over food. I began counting my calories, which usually added up to about 700-900 a day. I also burned off at least 200-300 calories a day, sometimes up to 700. The amount of calories I ate grew lower and lower with time. My weight lowered to about 87 pounds within a month. Soon I was 85, where I stayed for a while. Then 83, then down to 80. For the remainder of my disease I hovered between 80 and 85, occasionally dipping down to 78. Around the point I became 85 pounds I started eating 100-400 calories a day and it stayed like that throughout the remainder of my diesease. I know I didn't lose that much weight, but I was really unhealthy and looked quite skeletol. I was already thin to begin with. If you want to use any quotes from actual anorexics in your paper, feel free to quote me. Haha, hope I helped. Bye.

QUESTION:
Weight Loss?
Does anyone know an easy way to loose about 5kg? I have tried the gym and its not for me, as i'm not one to exercise, in fact I hate it! I currently weigh 58kg and I'm 155cm tall. I've tried to eat all the healthy foods but all ways seem to go off track...
Is there any weight loss tablets that actually work?-
ANSWER:
here is what my dietician suggests - follow a practical diet. start your meal with a soup or a huge salad. this fills u up. Make sure your plate has this ratio - 50% veg, 25% carb, 25% protein.this will prevent cravings too.an occassional treat is OK. have a snack every three hours. fruit (ideally berries) or soy nuts. just 2 tbsp of soya subsides hunger pangs. switch from white rice and bread to brown. eat 900gms of veggies a day.Lose a kilo a week. that is permanent loss. pick an exercise regime you like.
get a pedometer and take 10,000 steps everyday.

What is the ratio of weight-loss between those who follow a vegetarian diet v.s. high protein meat diet?
Is there any data on weight-loss for people that followed a vegetarian / vegan diet, compared to those who eat lots of meat / high protein? I have heard varying reports of what is better in terms of weight loss and know most of the facts. Are there any articles / data to substantiate either argument?
I'm not looking for diet advice. I'm healthy, fit and exercise regularly. Just looking for anything that supports either argument.-
ANSWER:
There is no difference. It is the amount you eat that is the real factor.
I am a fat vegetarian. I have a high protien diet.

[walking on the treadmill at different speeds and incline]i've heard you can, but i have also heard that you cannot. I would just like to get the facts
Serious answers only please :]
-
ANSWER:
In order to lose 1 lb, you must burn 3500 calories more than you take in. Conversely, in order to gain a lb, you must take in 3500 more calories than you burn. As long as you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. It doesn't matter where those calories come from...but of course, a balanced diet is the best way.

QUESTION:
How to get rid of stretch marks from weight loss?
i have lost 25 pds since the beginning of this year.
i have tons of stretch marks under my upper arm and
sides of my torso and thigh area.i applied suave cocoa
butter lotion for a couple weeks and no differences.i
heard cocoa butter reduces them.im a teen so i cant afford
much.does it have to do with the fact im still trying to reach my goal weight?
should i try applying after im done with my weight loss journey?-
ANSWER:
Well....Unfortunately some can go away naturally by weightloss
and some may not, I know when I lost my weight much of them faded away, Now unfortunately some on the thighs or between the groin may still be there do to the skin has grown to fast at the time. as far as my arms goes, Yeah some vanished ( but not all of them) they do have solution tht can cause them to go away, some creames ***MAY*** work......but mostly i think getting them injected and or lasered may work as well...It will cost prior to location and where it is done at. I think the more weight loss will tend to lose most of them overall, unless you decide to eat like a pig and let them grow and grow. but just be aware NOT ALL STRETCH MARKS GO AWAY.

Based on these facts, which of the following best approximates the percent of the members whose weight was over 200 pounds?-
ANSWER:
Uniform function: 1/b-a where 184a=184
b=246
F(x) = 1/ 62Basically find the area under the function to find the probability:

QUESTION:
Do you think advocating weight loss is healthy?
There's a massive campaign to encourage weight loss in obese individuals. Health and nutrition advocates often encourage people to change diets or exersize in order to lose weight. This has led to a variety of unhealthy dieting, fasting and weight loss surgery. None of this has proven completely effective. In fact, 90% of people who diet wind up back at the weight they started, sometimes heavier. However, correlations between premature death and many health-related diseases have been found among obese individuals (although many argue that there are just as many health-related problems among those with alledgedly ideal weights, and that nutritionists do not appropriately consider the individuals lifestyle and exersize habits before pointing the finger at overweight). What do you think?
Maybe my question is unclear: What I mean is, why do we advocate WEIGHT LOSS per se, as opposed to simply healthy living/eating? Do you think a person who is physically active and eats healthily is still at risk if they are not losing weight?-
ANSWER:
Yes, in one word I do believe so and agree. I see the point you are trying to make and there is some merit there as well. The word is MODERATION.... plain and simple, if we could control our eating habits better as a nation, we would need to diet less and less. Naturally some form of exercise is necessary to maintain both a healthy weight, mental being and cardiovascular health. Exercise can be walking, sex, running, basketball, weight lifting...We live in a nation where HUGE portions have become the norm.... we feel "ripped off" if we go to an upscale restaurant and order a entree and it isn't falling off the sides of the plate. Dieting and exercise isn't a fad or hobby, it is a conscious lifestyle choice to be well and healthy.

QUESTION:
Could NOT having your Period be Connected to Weight Loss or Gain?
I havent had my period since Jan. I'm not pregnant, I'm not on Birth Control, don't have a Thyroid problem and I don't think I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). I started working out in Feb. I go to the gym 5 days a week for 1 to 2 hrs a day; & havent lost any weight since then. Could not having my period be a result of not being able to loose weight? Fact being that my body is out of whack, I'm inbalanced, or maybe my body isn't producing enough estrogen. Can anyone help me?PLEASE NO SMART A$$ COMMENTS EITHER
I have an appt for the OBGYN in Sept. and can't get 1 sooner.
I'm 5'3" 168lbs. more muscle than fat however. My Body fat % is not that low to not have a period. Unfortunately I gain my weight in my middle.
I'm almost 28 & was also wondering if this may effect in me trying to have a baby?-
ANSWER:
It's not uncommon for women who change their activity level dramatically to have changes in their cycle. Working out five days a week for that long of a time could be doing it... they've often found a connection between low body fat/excessive physical activity and lack of menstruation. Also, instense times of stress have been known to throw the cycle out of whack.
However, that's a very long time to go without a period. I would suggest getting to the ob/gyn. They can run a few simple blood tests to check your hormone levels and help to fix the problem. You never know if it could be the symptom of something more serious.

QUESTION:
On Atkins diet-would eating No veggies at all speed up weight loss?
I'm in Atkins. And I know it says to have only 15 carbs a day.. Mostly from veggies.. But if I cut out all veggies and have around 5 carbs or less a day, will that speed my weight loss up? ... Or would I lose the same amount of weight? Please, spare me the "Atkins isn't healthy for you" speech. Just give me the cold hard facts.-
ANSWER:
Reducing your vegetable intake will not increase the amount of weight you lose in the beginning stages of Atkins. You would only be reducing your intake by 10 grams of carbohydrate which is only roughly 40 calories. The veggies included in Atkins can help digestion and help provide some vitamins and nutrients you might not be getting from the other foods. Keep them in there and stick to it, you'll be fine.Good luck!

ANSWER:
I understand that you want to turn to over the counter or prescription meds if you really have a problem losing weight. This is not always the best solution. In fact, adding a healthy all natural supplement to your diet might do the trick. Check out this new all natural rainforest food called acai berries.Acai berries have far more antioxidants than any other fruit. Even more than blueberries! Besides that, the nutrients in acai berry supplements help many other diseases and maladies, from diabetes to arthritis to blood clotting. It really is a worthwhile supplement to add to your daily nutrition.
As far as the acai berry assisting with fat loss, acai can be a great weight loss aid. The berry’s natural concoction of essential fatty acids, fiber, phytosterols and amino acids work together to help your body burn fat more efficiently, process food more quickly and shed the unwanted pounds that you’d like to lose.
The fatty acids and amino acids aid in both muscle development and proper digestion, both of which are essential to fat loss. The fiber helps your body to move food out of your system quicker and also to help you feel full, as do fatty acids. Phytosterols help fortify your digestive tract, moving waste materials out and absorbing nutrients more efficiently.
I wouldn't say that acai berries are the magic weight loss pill, but I would say that acai could be an important ingredient in your vitamin / supplement / weight loss arsenal.
What I recommend is to get a free trial of a decent Acai supplement, which you can get at my source link below. Then you should follow some of the other links on that site to find a sensible diet and a moderate exercise plan. Try to eat fewer carbs at night, and fewer calories over all if you think you can't lose weight. Give it a month or two and you should be able to lose 5-10 lbs easy.

QUESTION:
Weight loss and I am not trying to lose weight!!?
I am 15 and 5'3 and I have always been a small person and last school year at the beginning of the school year my weight was around 110 and then around the end of the school year
my weight was around 117. Over the summer I lost some weight not by doing anything special but I think it was just because there was no stress of school and I was eating regular again (during the school year I have a hard time eating regular). At the begining of the school year my weight was around 110/112 well now its 4 weeks into the school year and I am getting worried because my weight is down to 107 and my pants are starting to get lose. I mean I am not trying to lose weight or anything.Well my question is could any of this be the reason for my weight loss
- The fact that I have gym 1st hour and I don't eat breakfast and we go running for around 15 min in gym class then we play a game. Could it be I am not eating enough calories to cover for what I burn off in gym class??
- Could it be school stress even though I don't feel stressed out about school??
- Our eating schedule. We usually eat dinner later, around 7pm but lately because my mom got a new job we sometimes eat early like 5 or 6 and sometimes we eat really late like 8 or 9... could that have something to do with it??
- Also I have never had a regular cycle (I have never had a period every month... sometimes I go months without one) so could that have anything to do with it??
- Also for the last few days my stomach has been hurting and I have had to go to the bathroom really bad could that also have something to do with it??
Thanks!!-
ANSWER:

QUESTION:
Would eating a lot of sugar mess up a weight loss goal?
I do eat a lot of grams of sugar daily but I still stay within 1000 cals and sometimes up to 1200 cals. I exercise and still create a cal deficit but would the fact that I am eating a lot of sugar interfere with my weight loss? Is that the reason I am not losing weight?-
ANSWER:
Ummmm.....YEAH!!! Have you ever read a book on nutrition? 1000 calories a day is starvation and if much of it is sugar you can bet that you are quickly becoming malnourished. I hate to break the news to you but you don't have the SLIGHTEST idea what you are doing. Stop making ANY decisions until you have some information in your head with which to make decisions. You're just going to wind up fatter. p.s. Leslie is retarded...there is NO way you are going to build one ounce of muscle on 1000 cal. a day. You are probably losing muscle on a steady basis.

QUESTION:
Can rumination disorder cause my weight gain?
I only eat about 1000 calories a day but I have rumination disorder. This causes me to stay full for a very long time because I ruminate my food. Could this have to do with the lack of weight loss and in fact some weight gain?-
ANSWER:
If you are not losing with your current plan and disorder, perhaps, you need to eat more. Minimum to eat is 1200 calories per Diem. That you have it down to a science suggests a greater interest than is required. Your disorder may add to your problem by inhibiting normal digestion (just a guess). Try to eat more grains, vegetables and fruit. These items will fill you up more but not increase calories. They allow quicker transit time. Regarding the rumination disorder and effects of same, the physician can best answer this. Eat more, get fresh air and sunshine by walking. Drink lots of water and solve the difficulty as mentioned above with professional help. Then, provided you omit fast foods, snacks, prepared foods, hard cheese and the like, your weight loss will progress slowly and surely. Lack of sustenance might be the cause of delay as your body senses a famine. This is an evolutionary reaction in the brain. With the plant based diet, no running calculations on calories and usage by exercise is necessary. You would lose weight in a natural way.

QUESTION:
How does having a certain bloodtype determine food digestion and weight loss?
I heard a lady say that having the bloodtype of O postive there is a certain way food reacts to you and you produce more acids in your stomach for breaking down beef in particular, but it doesn't work well on porks...I found that quite interesting since I share the same bloodtype.. and I'm packing an extra 20 lbs...so who knows of this that can help me slim up for summer.. where are some supporting links or facts on what my bloodtype should and shouldn't consider for my diet?
I have to say.. I've NEVER heard of this before..and if it's a fact then why isn't THIS taught in elementary school other than just the basic food pyramid?
To copy and paste highlight area to be copied.. hit Ctrl and C at the same time.. to paste.. place cursor on place to be pasteed to and hit Ctrl and V at the same time.. now you know
Blood Type "O", which is also my type, is the most common one. Appx. 50% of humans today have that type, and it was the original human Blood Type, before "A", "B" & "AB" mutated from it...10,000 or more years ago!Blood Type "O" originated in Africa, and spread mostly to Western Europe. In a sense, if you and I are European (I am), then we're actually, in a sense, Albino-Blacks. One characteristic of "O", is a high acid stomach (our digestive system squirts out more hydrochloric acid than the other types), and we're prone to get ulcers...However don't take antacid pills, it's just better to eat more frequently, but with less amount of food! Give the stomach a little bit to work on, all day long, but don't eat large meals...
"O" is the Hunter/Gatherer Blood Type, which means, we do best, if we avoid; breads, cereals and processed foods, little or no dairy, minimal sugar, and stick to a diet of, for the most part, fresh raw foods, meats, fish, fruit, vegies, fresh juices, nuts, eggs, salads (but with only olive oil & vinegar dressing) and honey, wines and beer are okay, too, and licorice (anise) is okay for heartburn...Foods that can be hunted for, or gathered up...and believe it or not, animal fats are good for this type, still you can choose leaner cuts of red meat, when possible...all seafood is good!If you want to lose weight, drink some coconut milk before each meal...not too much, as it can be laxative, but just enough to taste the fruit fat in it, that will reduce your appetite, and you will begin to eat less at each sitting! Also, if you have chronic stomach pain, I would go to Walmart, and for under , you can buy a gallon of Aloe Vera Juice, and either drink it straight, or mix it with
other beverages of your choice (It doesn't have much flavor, but it has excellent healing properties)...Short-term fasting can also "press your reset button" when it comes to digestive mysteries...The "Positive" of O+ refers to the RH-Factor which is more relevant when giving birth! If your children's father, or the children themselves are a different Blood Type than you, that could have, or will in the future, necessitate taking a special shot...
I hope this helps some, Till later, Peternal
Thank You For breaking this down to me.. in a quick read verion...(via e-mail copy and paste)
-
ANSWER:
In human evolution, everyone started out as Blood Type "O", the original Hunter/Gatherers, out of Africa, living off of natural foods found in the wild: meats, fish, nuts, fruits, eggs & honey...Still 50% of humans today have this Type...The first farming societies, which came about around the time of the last Ice Age (12,000 years ago) gave rise to the first surviving mutation, Blood Type "A". This Blood Type was compatible with the ingesting of cereal grains, cultivated vegetables, as well as poultry, some pork & fish. They comprise appx.30% of the human population today...
The first nomadic people, who traveled on, and with livestock, including, camels, horses, oxen, sheep & goats, learned to milk their transportion, and the second mutation "B" emerged. This is the only type that dairy products are truly compatible with...About 15% of the population has this Type today...
Finally, "A" & "B" which are both dominant over the original "O" made a compromise on the genetic level, and created the newest Blood Type "AB". This Type is only 1000 years old, has some characteristics as "A" & "B", and makes up less than 5% of the Types of the world...

QUESTION:
Question about thyroid and weight loss?
Okay, I have thyroid cancer and had a total thyroidectomy. In preperation for my scans, I had to stop taking all my thyroid hormone (synthroid), so, I'm severely hypothyroid now. The last month and a half, I've been on a diet and exercise at least 5 days a week. Even with my diet and workout, I have not lost a single pound and in fact have gained a tiny bit. Is this normal? Does your thyroid play that much into weight loss?-
ANSWER:
Ah yes...I remember Hypo Hell. The weight gain, puffy face, crabby mood, lethargy, etc. It's totally normal and your thyroid hormones are a huge part of weight gain and loss. When you're all done with your scans and you resume your meds, the extra weight (from the hypo hell) will come off. If you're trying to lose additional weight, then the diet and exercise you've been doing will actually make a big difference.I only had to do the full on withdrawal from meds the first time I had scans and RAI ablation treatment. After that, I did the thyrogen route so I didn't have to stop my meds at all. But thyrogen is only useful for scans, not for ablative treatment. Just thought I'd throw that out there for your future reference.
Hang in there. Check out www.thyca.org for lots of info about thyroid cancer as well as a great (and free) Low Iodine Cookbook.

QUESTION:
how much does massive weight loss change a person?
a young, cute couple wanting to get engaged before appearing on Australias The Biggest Loser recently announced their break up after the show. apparently the girl said her boyfriend cheated on her after the show, revelling in the fact that he looked "hot" for the first time in his life.
Does weight massive weight loss change a person and increase their self esteem to not put with things anymore that they may have when they were overweight?
how can massive weight loss affect a person negatively?-
ANSWER:
This definitely depends on the person. When you lose a lot of weight, your self esteem gets higher and I think you just tend to feel more comfortable with yourself. Just because this situation happened, doesn't mean it's prone to happen to everyone who loses weight. I don't think there's negative affects when losing a ton of weight. I think it all has to do with that person, and how they deal with it.

QUESTION:
14 year old in need of weight loss help?
Well lets start with the fact that I want to lose a good bit of weight by June - at least enough to make me look good in a bathing suit again. I'm 212, most of the weight being bone mass since I was built a little bigger, and would just like to know if anyone had some good tips for fast weight loss. Thank you!-
ANSWER:
You can try Bowtrol colon cleanse which is one of the more commonly known colon cleansing systems on the market today. Bowtrol is an all natural herbal remedy which is the way to go when searching for a colon cleanser. An herbal remedy makes more sense than one of the systems that uses chemicals in order to cleanse your colon. The colons function is to absorb nutrients and vitamins while at the same time helping to form firm, but soft stool. Over time the colon can retain some of the waste material from this process. In fact, some experts estimate that more than fifteen pounds of hardened fecal matter can cling to the colon.
Obviously this amount of waste material can cause problems with the other systems of the body. These problems include, weight gain, depression, acne, constipation, abdominal discomfort, and a decrease of energy. By using an all natural colon cleansing system such as Bowtrol you will cleanse the colon of these harmful materials.
Bowtrol is all natural and the ingredients include Turkey Rhubarb, herbs such as aloes, bentonite clay, senna, peppermint, as well as a proprietary blend of other herbs. Many of these ingredients have been used for hundreds of years to combat the problems associated with waste build up in the colon.
The manufacturer recommends taking between three and eight pills daily. Since they are all natural they can be taken as a dietary supplement for life. On the other hand if you are seeking a shorter term colon cleansing Bowtrol can produce results in as little as two weeks.
As with all supplements maximum results will be achieved if you are able to make some dietary changes in addition to taking the supplement. The average adult should be consuming between twenty and thirty grams of fiber per day. This can be achieved by adding foods such as legumes, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while eliminating heavily processed and fast food.

QUESTION:
How to get motivated for weight loss?
I'm 17, and what most people would consider over weight. I know I am, and it bothers me to a great extent. I'm only 5'2" and I weigh about 185, I want to catch my weight before it gets into the 200's. I know its the simple fact of burning more calories you take in, drink lots of water, and eat healthy. The only thing is though, I lose motivation in the middle of getting everything going. Any tips to keep the motivation going or to make a habit of working out and eating right?-
ANSWER:
Is there anything that will motive you? For example perhaps there is a pair of jeans that you want to fit in better or perhaps you can’t fit in them at this point. Is there some event in the future that you like to shed a few pounds for? That’s always something decent to be motive about. My cousin in law was determined to drop 25 pounds to fit into her wedding dress. You can also think of your health as a motivation what with the health problems people overweight are more likely to have.Once you get in a pattern it just become a part of your daily live. Listen to good music can also help as it makes the workout go faster. Also finding an activity or workout program that you enjoy also makes it easier as it can be fun. If you have a friend who might want to lose some weight that can always help to try and lose weight with someone else someone who will be there to support you and know what your going through. I know some people say keeping a fitness dairy helps them.
