Carbohydrates are the single most important food you can eat.
That statement probably goes against everything you've ever heard, so let me explain.
If you don't believe me, take this little test. Think of a carb!
If you're like most Americans, bread, pasta, soft drinks, French fries, sugar, and similar foods probably flew into your mind. Yes, these foods are carbs -- highly processed and refined ones.
And if these are the kinds of carbs you consume on a regular basis, let me warn you, (unless you regularly run marathons), you're most likely either overweight or heading down the road to weight gain.
You may like them, you may consider them "comfort foods," you may think that they couldn't be so bad since they are so predominant in our current diet. But the biological bottom line is that human beings have not evolved to metabolize these types of carbohydrates.
They slow down your metabolism and contribute to every one of the major diseases associated with aging including diabetes, heart disease, dementia and cancer.
In most, cases they are also "empty" calorie foods-the worst possible combination -- high caloric foods, low in nutrients. They deprive you of vital nutrients as well as burden your body with the task of digesting food molecules that aren't giving you anything you need.
Eating them (especially in excess) is a prescription for weight gain. But they're not the end of the carb story. If you're like most people, you may not realize that the wide world of carbs is actually much, much bigger than this limited crowd of processed carbs.
In contrast, natural carbohydrates, which come to your table just like Mother Nature made them, contain many essential nutrients and specialized chemicals that turn up your metabolism via newly discovered plant chemicals call phytonutrients.
So you have a choice: use phytonutrients to spark your metabolism into action, or drown your metabolism with indigestible nutrient-poor carbs.
Our genetic nutritional template goes back 20,000 years. Our ancestors foraged for wild food, like wild berries, grasses, roots, and mushrooms to find life-giving phytonutrients that all humans are designed by nature to eat.
On a recent vacation I found myself in a sea of phytonutrients in the wild islands of Southeast Alaska. I was foraging along with the grizzly bears for bog cranberries, blueberries, nagoonberries, raspberries, and strawberries. These scrumptious berries, bursting with phytonutrients, were smaller, richer in color and taste, (and lower in sugar) than their domestic berry cousins.
Here's a tip: The greater variety and the deeper the color of plant foods you eat, the higher their concentration of phytonutrients. The key is to learn which phytonutrient-dense foods can prevent disease and promote weight loss.
Want phytonutrient power?
Here 's a small sample of the many superfoods that contain these powerful phytonutrients: isoflavones in soy foods, lignans in flax seeds, catechins in green tea, polyphenols in cocoa (yes, chocolate!), glucosinolates in broccoli, carnosol in rosemary, and resveratrol in red wine.
And there are hundreds more that can help you unlock the secret to natural weight loss. All of these compounds -- and dozens more -- will help you fight disease and obesity. These special compounds literally communicate with your genes and turn on messages of health and weight loss. They are key to the success people experience in losing weight on a program I've developed during my 20-years practicing medicine, called UltraMetabolism.
Before you reach for that Cinnabon, know that phytonutrients only occur in whole, unrefined, unprocessed plant foods. All vegetables (and many fruits) score high in phytonutrients, while processed carbs, like bread and pasta, have virtually none.
Here's a shorthand to distinguish between the metabolism boosters and the processed carbs that will only weigh you down:
Anything that has been packaged or put through a machine is processed (like a potato chip). Anything that comes right out of the earth is natural (like a plum).
Don't let all the terminology -- high fat, low-fat, high-carb, low-carb, high glycemic index, low glycemic index, complex carbs and simple carbs -- confuse you. The key is eating whole, real, unprocessed, food found as close to nature as possible. Now you know why your grandmother always told you to eat your vegetables!
Folk wisdom passed down the generations showed how to give the body what it needs. In the early twenty-first century, that wisdom is being confirmed in the research of leading edge scientists. So you can follow these recommendations I offer with total confidence that the latest medical science backs them up.
This new science reveals why you should never do what some ill-advised diets suggest: cut out all carbs. Not a good idea-because you also cut out all the phytonutrients (and the fiber) that only comes from whole plant foods.
Along with their obesity fighting chemicals, vitamins, and minerals to accelerate your metabolism, most whole carbohydrates are filled with healthy plant fiber to slow the absorption of sugar into your bloodstream.
And for super fast weight loss, you'll want to eat some special "super" fiber foods which I use as my secret weapon with many patients who have had difficulty losing weight. Once you incorporate them into your diet, you'll feel full, experience steady energy, and will never be tempted to overeat.
Here's a guarantee: If you've been consuming highly processed foods such as sodas, chips, and crackers, and you decide to boost your intake of those powerful phytonutrients that I've reviewed, you'll be taking the first step towards re-programming your body for automatic weight loss and health.
My dirty little secret as a doctor is that I never treat anybody specifically to lose weight; I simply help them become healthy using these and other techniques and the weight automatically comes off.
So remember, eat your carbs, but make them the right carbs!

QUESTION:
Is having a weight loss/health charm cast on you a sin?
So my friend is a Wiccan (not a devil worshiping one though. She is a good one) and she found a charm for weight-loss/health. She would like to help me out with my goal of losing weight/ getting healthy but I wouldn't want to do it if it is devilish/sin/form of worshiping the devil. Is it? Please answer ASAP!!!!-
ANSWER:
There is no such thing as a devil worshiping Wiccan. Most Christians think that the sort of spell you seek is against their religion, however Christians do magick all the time, such as in the creation of their holy water. That's a spell, folks.Spells simply support our daily endeavors with extra spiritual "oomph." We might cast a spell to help support weight loss while we watch what we eat and exercise to help our wills conform to our goal. Spells aren't what people think they are. Further, because of that, they are not "rubbish." They work quite well, actually.
Wicca is a religion and people often mistakenly think that Wiccans "cast spells." A real Wiccan rarely casts spells and usually focuses on their loving, highly ethical, cohesive religion that celebrates the cycle of Life on this planet. A Wiccan seeks to commune with the Divine through the natural world by observing 8 solar and 26 lunar holidays throughout the year. Wiccans do rituals for spiritual sustenance, which is the same reason anyone practices their religion.

QUESTION:
Is 10 minutes worth of exercise of any use towards heart health/weight loss?
I am what they call "Super Morbid Obese" and i am trying to lose weight and my endurance is for crap. i know 30 minutes a day, 3 -5 times a week is recommended amount of exercise but i am lucky if i can do 10 minutes at a time. so my question is this...is any amount of exercise useful? even if it is only for 2-5-10 minutes? or is it pointless if i can't do for longer?-

One thing you could try is when you're working out, staggering your cardio. Like do 5 or 10 minutes, take a break, do some other exercises like strength training, then go back and do another 5 or 10 minutes of cardio. You will gradually be able to increase your time and start seeing some good results. =] This is what I do and it seems to work for me.

QUESTION:
Is green tea good for your skin, hair, weight loss, health, etc?
im 16 and ive started to drink about 3-4 cups of green tea a day
is it good for skin hair wieght loss and how?-
ANSWER:
There is really nothing nothing wrong with green tea. However, if you are trying to lose weight, you're going to have to do more than drink green tea. Here are the main things I believe are necessary to lose weight:1. Clean out....
You must clean out the blockage in your system. One thing I do is drink "Senna" tea, which is a natural laxative. However, it is a powerful laxative, and must be mixed with another tea such as Peppermint or Spearmint, to prevent griping.2.Set out an eating pattern.....
Often, we tend to make constant poor food choices (ex.cereal for dinner, fast food every night) because we wait until we are hungry to get something to eat. you get rid of this habit by cooking before you are hungry.3.Eat your breakfast!!!!!
When you eat a bagel with cream cheese, you will probably gain about 1/4 pound. An anorexic, however, will gain about 1 1/2 - 2 pounds. Why? Your body needs food to metabolize. When you don't eat breakfast, you''re gaining weight during the day, rather than losing anything.4.Exercise!!!!!
You probably do exercise, but don't work hard enough. Or maybe you are? Maybe you just need a different workout regimen. You probably jog for about ten minutes(about one mile straight). But, you could probably burn about as many calories with 4 minutes of continuous upward stair climbing. And also, are you pushing yourself to the limits? Eventually, during a strenuous workout, you don't feel it anymore(just an annoying, numb feeling).P.S.Don't believe all the hype about green tea. It may have many useful antioxidant properties, but in the end of the day, it's tea, not a cure-all multi-vitamin.

QUESTION:
Stubborn weight loss and health issues?
I am a female in my late 20's. 5 foot 7 147lbs.
I have a really small core frame. Like REALLY small, I have super tiny bones, and even though I'm on the tall side of average height, my inner bits, the parts of me under the fat are really small,it's just there is a lot of fat on top of me that builds me up to look like a normal sized person. So even though I LOOK pretty fit, I actually have a really large amount of fat on my body. People NEVER believe me until I grab giant hand fulls of blubber and they go, "Woah, where the hell did that come from"Anyway, my point is, I AM technically within the healthy range of weight for the stupid BMI chart but I know I am not healthy. I have way too much fat. My midsection at the widest part is 38 inches around and I think almost 10 of those inches are just fat.
I have been working out every day until I am drippy with sweat for 6 weeks now and have dramatically reduced my calorie intake, and begun eating healthier, more veggies and fruits organic lean meat instead of fatty safeway stuff, stuff like that.
But no change. I mean I weigh exactly the same amount, I am the same size around. I didn't expect a dramatic transformation instantly but I expected to at least FEEL a bit better, but I actually feel like hell.
I'm more tired, more prone to infection and generally less fit feeling than before.
And I am not working out too much (20-40 mins on the treadmill a day. Between 3 and 5 mph)
and I am not eating too little and I don't feel like I'm eating too much. On very low calorie diets my body rebels even more so and gets doubled over with cramps and makes me want to be sick. why do I feel like hell?I'm doing everything I am supposed to and yet...
Why am I not losing any weight?
what am I doing wrong?I just don't get it and I'm becoming really frustrated.

QUESTION:
Question about laxatives as weight loss for health and fitness class.?
I am writing a paper on the abuse of laxatives as a weight loss method for health and fitness class. I have found nearly all of the information that was required; however, I cannot find how many laxatives an "abuser" takes for weight loss. All that comes up when I look it up is a bunch of senseless people saying that they want to use them to lose weight. Could anybody tell me approximately how many a person like this would take at a time, or even throughout a day. Thank you!-
ANSWER:
There is no specific set of times you take a laxative to be considered abuse. Just like how there's no official number of calories you have to eat to be considered anorexic or number of times you throw up to be considered bulimic.I could be considered to abuse laxatives because I take them at least once a month, but because I have to (if you know what I mean), rather than using them as a form of weight loss. Since I was advised by my doctor it's okay to use them, it shouldn't be considered abuse.
My assumption would be you take them everyday or at least a few times per week not on a doctor's orders and purposely doing so to lose weight.

QUESTION:
Are these breakfasts good for health and weight loss?
Are these breakfasts good for health and weight loss?
1. Cup of Basmati Rice, Tin of Tuna/Salmon and cup of Miso Soup
2. Sardines or Anchovys on Toast with glass of Skim Milk-
ANSWER:
You probably have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and to be honest, this is 100 percent true. Eating breakfast helps stabilize blood sugar levels after a lengthy sleep and is an amazing way to both start your day and increase weight loss results. The reason why breakfast is great for weight loss is that it helps both increase metabolic rate and stop you from overeating throughout the day due to your body craving a shot of insulin. Medical research has shown that eating a healthy breakfast can even make you feel like you have more energy throughout the day - all the more reason to start eating in the morning.
Here are 5 really easy to make breakfasts that will help you lose weight as well as they all taste great too.

QUESTION:
Eating a lot of sodium while dieting, How will this affect my weight loss?
I am eating very low fat and low calorie and staying well under my daily goals. The only problem is that I am eating a lot of lean cuisines and deli sandwiches and prepared meals and sandwich meat are high in sodium. I am averaging around 160% of my daily recommended sodium intake. How will this affect my weight loss? Health in general?-
ANSWER:
Under ideal conditions, the minimum sodium requirement is about 1,500 milligrams (mg) of sodium each day. This is les than 1 teaspoon of table salt. The maximum recommended level of sodium intake is 2,300 mg per day. On average, American men consume between 3,100 and 4,700 mg of sodium per day, while women consume between 2,300 and 3,100 mg (due to their lower calorie intake, not because of restricting sodium).Sodium intake is one factor involved in the development of high blood pressure, otherwise known as hypertension. Hypertension tends to develop as people age. Some individuals are "salt sensitive," so reducing intake of sodium helps to reduce blood pressure levels. A high intake of sodium early in life might weaken genetic defenses against developing high blood pressure. Experts recommend not to wait and see if you develop hypertension, but to reduce sodium intake while blood pressure is still normal. This may decrease your risk of developing hypertension

QUESTION:
Health weight loss for a teenager?
What are some healthy ways to loose weight as a teenager? I am not overweight but I've been gaining weight lately and I don't want to become overweight. So what are some ways to keep healthy? I take my lunch to school so what would some good options for lunches be? Also what are some good ideas for snacks and exercising? THanks!
no, I have no problem with exercising. I just want fun ways to do it? Instead of just running or something-
ANSWER:
Anything but an unhealthy eating disorder. Honey, I'd just stick with www.mypyramid.gov. Those are guidelines you should probably stick to. For lunch, you could do a whole wheat tortilla with lettuce, mustard, tomato and turkey with some water. Then, you could add some Baked! Lays or Ruffles, and a serving of grapes. If you want, maybe a treat of a Jello or something.
For exercising, I walk around. I try to get an hour of walking in everyday. I get dropped off early by the bus, so I walk around the school for 20 mins before it starts, then treadmill the rest when I get home. But I'm not athletic. You could try jumproping, getting involved in a sport, jogging around the block, or going for a bike ride. And the weight gain could just be because you're growing. If you're really scared, I'd talk to your doctor or mom before you take matters into your own hands. Be careful and good luck! Remember, make it a fun adventure to be healthier!

QUESTION:
Does sleep affect weight loss/health?
I have a very erratic sleep schedule. I go to sleep between 10 pm and 4 am and I wake up between 6 am and 12 pm, I was wondering if this affects Your health and or weight. And for the record I'm trying to become physically stronger, not visually skinnier, because a lot of health questions focus on the later and that'ss not what I'm focusing on.-
ANSWER:
Sleep does affect weight loss and health but mostly indirectly. If you don't get enough amount of sleep you tend to crave more food, and are more likely to skip exercising. Depending on your lifestyle at least 6 hours of sleep is recommended. If you are active, then there shouldn't be too many problems.

QUESTION:
Weight loss health incentive…ethical? ?
I know somebody who has low self esteem due to several factors. I feel most of it is related to her weight and how she feels about her health compared to the demanding standards our society imposes on women. I have been pondering a incentive based program for her to lose weight and get healthy, which I feel will help boost her confidence tremendously. My hesitation is mostly about how ethical my plan is.The plan:
I know this individual would like to do the following,
Get healthy
Lose weight
Have sexAs of today she has been unable to achieve any of these goals.
My plan is to help encourage her to lose weight/ get healthier is by providing a sexual incentive for reaching minni goals that (we mutually agree upon) bring her closer to her overall goals.
These goals will be specific to make it easy to determine to if the goal has been achieved, the minni goals will also encourage healthy weight loss and not crash diets or dehydration.
And example of a weight lose goal would be a sexual favor of your choice (including sex) for every 10lb you lose in 5 weeks. (This is set as not to go against the doctor recommended 2lb per week) (Currently needs to lose 70-100lb)
An example of a health goal would be cut 1:00 minutes off your mile time, (currently above 15 min)
By creating a network of goals to meet this allows her to pursue other goals if say she has trouble with the weight loss from time to time. (I feel this will help prevent desperate measures)
The reason I’m asking this question is I feel that this person could benefit tremendously from a program like this but would like to know if you guys feel this is an ethical approach to helping motivate an individual to achieve their goals.
Thanks
-
ANSWER:
I don't know what to say exactly.I know that people who exercise reward themselves with a cookie, day at the spa, a meal at their favorite restaurant.....but...sex? That's very interesting.
Are you the sexual tool in this approach to help your friend? I don't think this breaks any ethical rules, but it definitely could become complicated.
I've never even thought about that, but it seems that his would work. Women want to be viewed as sexy from males, even more so by women who are trying to loose weight and have self esteem issues. If she says yes and obviously you're fine with it...then go ahead!

QUESTION:
How does drinking water help with weight loss and health?
I'm looking at all of these answers and they all say "drink lots of water."' why? when i drink water i bloat up.-
ANSWER:
Unfortunately too many people mistake thirst for hunger. Did you know that if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated? Keeping well hydrated will keep you from overeating. Plus, water helps to flush the toxins out of your system, giving you clearer, more beautiful skin! And water is calorie free as well. Most Americans drink 25-50% of their calories a day. Just switching from soda and juice to water will help cut calories which will cut weight.

QUESTION:
How to loss weight on health way?
What you do to loss weight and what to eat and drink? Can I loss weight without exercise? I have read some great articles on http://www.diet-advices.com and they help's me much!-
ANSWER:
I wish there was a way for me to scream "NO!!!" loud enough for all to hear my cry. STOP investing in a slew of supplements that will NEVER work, no matter how long or often you use them (read on to learn why). NEVER purchase gimmicked exercise machines that promise miracle results (whether it be for the stomach, buns, hips, thighs, or ANY body part), but in the end, only serve as a cheap giveaway at your next yard sale. Ab machines promising to firm your stomach and help you lose weight, all in a mere 30 days, DO NOT ENHANCE THE APPEARANCE OF OR FLATTEN YOUR WAISTLINE, and will NOT BURN ONE OUNCE OF EXCESS FAT. Yet, they do add nicely to your weight loss related junk collection. The only required element for consistent fat loss is proper diet, thus exercise is not an essential factor. Yet, if one chooses to engage in regular exercise, fat loss accelerates. For example, if you lose 15 pounds in one month through proper diet techniques (no exercise), you will enhance results by 5-15 pounds (losing 20-30 pounds) through introducing proper exercise variables in conjunction with diet. Thus, if you wish to enhance the rate of progress, adding exercise to proper diet is a worthwhile technique. Yet, if you are satisfied with the speed of weight loss using proper diet only, exercise is not necessary
Always remember that weight is composed of water, muscle, and FAT -- your ONLY goal is to shed excess fat, as MUSCLE is essentially a calorie burning furnace (and will help you to quickly and permanently eliminate ALL excess body weight, EVEN WHILE RESTING). Any diet that restricts carbs in favor of high protein OR excessive fat intake is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE, and does NOT permanently eliminate body fat. In fact, most find themselves FATTER due to carbohydrate depriving diet plans

QUESTION:
Business Name? (weight loss/ health gain/ nutritional coaching)?
Ok yahooers would you be so kind to help me think of a name for my business - it needs to be catchy, fun, energetic - and more 'gimicky' the better! The business is essentially a weight loss programme offering the products, advice, and personal support - however the key thing is 'health maximisiation' so I dont want the businesses name just to single out loosing fat!
Names I was thinking of so far to give you the direction im wanting to go into are:
BODY RESUE
CHALLENGE HEALTH
OPERATION VITALITY
THE HEALTH SQUADthanks everyone!
Oh maybe a bit of more information about the business - my focus is more on a new healthy lifestyle rather than the current yo-yo 'fad' diet approach!
Answers so far are great in terms of the gimmick aspect - however I feel they will discourage potential customers who aren't relatively wanting to loose their 'flab' but just be healthy. Thanks!-

QUESTION:
Is Phenocal is good for health and weight loss?
Is Phenocal a good weight loss product.-
ANSWER:
Please trust me when I say you don't need a weight loss product to lose weight. Nobody does.Every weight loss product company says to diet and exercise while taking their product. Why, because that is how you lose weight, through diet and exercise.
That is how they get you. They make you believe that it is their product that caused the weight loss when in fact it was actually your hard work. What happens when you don't diet and exercise while taking their product and see no weight loss results.
They say to you, "Well, we do recommend diet and exercise as well". It's a win win situation for them.
Each pill has there own set of side effects and hidden dangers and all have the potential to cause harm. Why would you take the risk when you can lose weight by simply eating well and exercising.
There is no magic secret to weight loss. It is all about hard work, commitment, goal setting and desire. If you want to lose weight you can and you will.

QUESTION:
What is the best carb for weight loss and health?
Out of........couscous, rice, bulgur wheat and boiled potatoes?-
ANSWER:
It is important to know what are the best ways to maintain a low carb diet and what is on the diet so that you can have the best results. The basic rules are you are cutting out most of the carbs such as bread and potatoes that you may have normally ate.One advantage to this diet is that it allows you to eat until you feel full. With so many diets now you can be very limited to what you can eat and the portions are so small you always feel hungry.
The Low Carb Diet is one of the most popular diets that exist because it has so many choices of food that you can eat on the diet. The Atkins diet is a form of a Low Carb Diet that has been very successful for many people who have had large weight loss.
The most important part of the diet is that you eat more protein and high fat foods and that you cut out the High Carb foods, basically that is the main part of the diet.
Most people who have been on the Low Carb Diet have also experienced great results with other health issues they may have had. It has lowered some people’s blood pressure to the point they do not have to take medicine anymore.
It is always best if you are thinking about starting a new diet that you get all the facts you can so that you choose a plan that works well for you and you can obtain a maximum weight loss.

QUESTION:
Expertise on fat-burning/weight loss health supplements???
Hi Everybody!I am asking anyone, although I appreciate the input from the ladies since I am one:
I'm looking for a fat-burning/weight loss-esque supplement. Not anything unhealthy or that makes you jittery. More herbal and helpful.
I work a sedentary job and live in LA! With 2-3 hours of commute time EVERY DAY exercise is possible, but I could use an energy boost and a little extra help.
I am in no way looking for some man-made chemical but rather a mixture of something natural?
Thanks friends!
-
ANSWER:
There are no pills that you can take that will help you "increase your metabolism and burn fat." Caffeine is a good substance to utilize if you are looking for some assistance. It will help increase fatty acid mobilization and you'll be able to prolong your workouts thus creating a higher caloric deficit.

QUESTION:
Which brand or type of vitamins or suppliments should I be taking for general health and weight loss?
I am a 30 year old guy and recently began an intense workout schedule (both weight lifting and cardio) in order to better tone my body, build muscle, and lose weight. I have been advised by several trainers that I should be taking multivitamins, fat burning pills, and other suppliments. Everybody tries to plug the product they sell and I have no idea which is the best (and healthiest for me). And advise would be greatly appreciated.-
ANSWER:
as for type of vitamin, make sure it is a pharmaceutical grade vitamin, most of the ones you can buy at a grocery store or health store are food grade and dont contain all that they say they do. Price is the best indication that you are getting the real stuff. The vitamins and supplements that I took are pharmaceutical grade and helped me lose 95 lbs in 8 months. But I did not buy them at a store either and they were legal.

QUESTION:
My health! weight loss! How does this look?
Let's say i eat healthy balanced meals(not too much food, a good amount) I walk 45 minutes a day(fast walking) or ride a stationary bike for 30 minutes(at least 5 days a week) Do i need to do more cardio.? Can i lose weight? If i want to do i need to do more cardio? Eat less? I HAVE TO WEAR A SWIMSUIT SOON! and i don't like my body that much now. HELP ME!-
ANSWER:
Your cardio level is good, but I can't comment on your diet since I don't have enough information. A "good amount" is a matter of perception and can be way different than the amount you need to eat to lose weight. I would also add some resistance training into your routine so you can help preserve lean tissue and burn more calories even at rest.

They are not expensive, but I don't know it it's worth it. I don't have health problems, just want to lose weight and get as much as exercise as I should. QUESTION:
Is a high carb low fat diet good for weight loss and health?
I was trying the caveman diet but this one seems for practical for me-
ANSWER:
High carb diets do work for weight loss as long as you are careful which other food groups you combine with the carbs. Are you familiar with Slimming World? You can eat carbs all day long on that diet, and the weight still falls off. BUT, before anyone makes a statement about it being an unhealthy diet, I would like to state that they recommend at the group that you have a high intake of fruit, vegetables, fish and lean meat too. It is a healthy diet plan that is reasonable to maintain, as there are no limits on the amount of food you can eat. Amongst all the other important foods containing vital ingredients. Milk for calcium, wholemeal bread or cereal for fibre etc.As an example, this is a typical day on slimming world for me.Breakfast:
2 pieces of wholemeal toast (1 of 2 servings permitted per day) with low fat spread and vegemite.
2 poached eggs with black pepper.
Mushrooms cooked in frylite spray.
Cup of tea with sweetener.Lunch:
A large baked potato filled with baked beans, low fat cheese and salad.Dinner:
A huge serving of pasta, with lean bacon strips, onion, low fat cheese, low fat mayo and red & yellow peppers.Snacks:
Mullerlight yogurts (or any yogurt that is virtually fat free). You may eat as many as these as you like everyday.
2 Alpen light cereal bars (2nd serving of fibre permitted per day).I have lost 2 stone on this diet so far and would recommend it to anyone who loves their food!

QUESTION:
Which is better for cardiovascular health and weight loss?
Treadmill, running at 6mph/10 minute miles.or...
Elliptical trainer: At level 5 difficulty.
Both are done for exactly an hour.
Which is a better exercise and burns more calories?
-
ANSWER:
I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.
First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...
This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.
However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace.com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.
Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate.

QUESTION:
So i need some health/weight loss advice?
I'm gonna be honest, I hate my body. And its not that I'm wayyyy overweight or anything, I'm just... not happy with it. I know this is gonna probably get the same responses as it always gets, but I wanna lose weight fast. If all those teens on I Used to be Fat can do it, then I can too. And im more than willing to give 110% of that amount of dedication. Any advice???-
ANSWER:
Don't expect the same results that those kids get. They don't have to go to school or work, so they literally worked out for 6-8 hours A DAY for those +/- 100 days that they were on the show. Same holds true for Biggest Loser, Heavy, and all the other weight loss shows. For those of us in the real world, it's way harder, so all you can really do is eat healthier (vegetables, fruit, lean protein, whole grains, lowfat dairy, etc.) and exercise as many days of the week as you can. Good luck, it's a very hard thing to do, I know.

QUESTION:
Weight Loss/Health Question?
So I'm a 16 year old girl, 5'1 116 lbs. I run track and cross country and workout everyday alternating intervals with long runs, and weight training with pilates(on light days). And I want to lose more weight and flatten my belly and im not quite sure where to start. If anyone could give me some pointers or workouts that'd be awesome and also how to eat better. I eat ok but I want to eat healthier so should i eat smaller more meals or just eat less in general and also what should i eat i.e. breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Any thoughts are appriciated, and I'm not fat but I want to tone up and lose a couple more pounds.-
ANSWER:
If you eat less, your metabolism will slow down and you won't lose weight. You need to eat 6 small healthy meals each day, accompanied with lots of water to flush the toxins out of your body while keeping you hydrated. As for toning up, cross country and track will most definitely tone your legs, but if you want to concentrate on flattening your tummy, check this vid out. It's actually pretty fun, and it WORKS.

QUESTION:
So a few weight loss/health food questions?
Hey!
First of all would eating a canned veggie take away it's value in nutrients?kinda making it pointless to a dietSecondly what are some fun exersises or exersise DVDs I have no equiptment except a weight lifting machine but I get bored so easily
Lastly are there some other weird calorie "tricks" such as like when your cold you will burncalories to heat you up
Thanks a lot and I'm sorry for bad typing I'm on my iPod touch
-
ANSWER:
Eating canned vegetables is better than eating potato chips. Look at it that way. Fresh vegetables would obviously be the better choice but that doesn't fit into everyone's time and budget-understandable.The Firm is good-it's about .00 but you need to buy light weights with it. If you don't want to buy weights then you can use cans of vegetables in place of them! No joke-they are about equal to 2.5 pounds weights.
Denise Austin is good-she's on cable in the morning so you can record it or buy them.Laughing burns calories-you'll feel it in your stomach the day after. Smiling burns more calories than frowning.
Standing burns more calories than sitting.
Celery is a neutral food because it takes as many calories to eat it as there are in it.

QUESTION:
How important is aerobic exercises to weight loss and overall health?
I am working on dropping around 20-30 pounds of body fat. I already have started eating healthy, and I do push-ups and sit-ups daily. How important is aerobic exercise to losing weight and also just overall better health? Thanks.
How important is AEROBIC EXERCISE to weight loss and overall health?-
ANSWER:
It is very important for weight loss and for optimum health.
"It is almost impossible to lose weight fast without the aid of exercises. Changing your eating habits alone won't yield any permanent results! Weight loss can be achieved only when you combine healthy eating with physical activity. Exercises boost your metabolic rate, which in turn helps you burn fat fast".
Now, what is very important is the type of exercise you do. Of course cardio is efficient. But what you want to do is get fat-weight loss to happen after, long after, your work out rather than during.
If you do cardio intense cardio for thirty minutes or more, your going to get your body to start burning fat while your training. What this does is tells your body it needs fat for the next training session. You 'will loose if your calorie intake is less than what you are burning. But you body still wants to store fat for energy. So, after you start to eat normal, you will start to gain the weight back. The solution is to do on-off intensity for about twenty minutes. This will increase your heart and lung capacity. Plus it will tell your body that it doesn't need to carry the extra weight because it is to heavy and slowing it down during the bursts of training. Therefore you will burn the fat after the workout for many hours.
Example of the training that I am talking about:
"The quickest way for fast weight loss is to increase your heart rate for one minute, than lower the intensity for recovery period of about a minute. Basically your goal is to increase your heart rate and lung capacity for one to tow minutes and the recover your breath before you do it again. Do this for four or five times and it should take about twenty minutes to complete. This will activate fat burning 'after' you work out rather than during. Long after".
This way of exercise is conducive to the way we as humans are built. We are built for short bursts of speed to "get away" from predators.
Your body will not store weight because it has no idea when the next "fight or flight" is going to happen. Make sense, doesn't it?

QUESTION:
A question for people that are good at exercise/weight loss/ health stuff....?
I start track for my school very soon(next week), I will run 2 miles(at least 5 days a week) and possibly do a couple other events too. I have been trying to slim my hips for a few months now, they aren't huge but they aren't small either.Do you think I could get them slimmed down by April or May? If not how much sooner or later? Also, (and I already eat very healthy and drink lots of water) how much weight do you think i could lose? I will also do ab exercises, push-ups, wall sits, squats, lunges, etc.
Only HELPFUL answers please!!! Key word: HELPFUL!!!
Thanks Divingir, that was a great, HELPFUL answer.-
ANSWER:
Track is really going to get you into shape. You'll get a lot better at cardio fitness and strength. I'm a freshman and I did track last year, and I think it made a big difference in my overall health.Unfortunately, your hips are bones that probably aren't going to shrink or anything... I used to hate my hips because I thought they weren't skinny enough. I know this sounds weird, but girls have deposits of fat on our hips. Its natural... you're /supposed/ to have some fat. Instead of trying to live up to an idealistic body, try to make yourself in shape. Be healthy and active, but don't worry about it too much... you can take it overboard. Work on improving your overall fitness, and the rest will come naturally.
My recommendation: If you really want to get in shape, join a swim team. I started swimming this year and I LOVE it... It's a lot of dedication and usually involves 3-4 hours of swimming per day. I'm in amazing shape now. =) It's so much more interesting than running and is really better for you in general. It's also rewarding because you can really see yourself improve.
I really used to focus on my weight, especially in the past couple of years. Don't. It's not healthy to be too concerned about it. You've probably heard this before, but its just a number. But if you're really concerned about your weight or anything, talk to your doctor, your parents, etc. Maybe check out your BMI. But don't get obsessed about it, okay?
Good luck getting in shape and have fun! =)

QUESTION:
a health weight loss question ?
It has to do with weight, and sizes
I am 197 pounds and I am 57 (56 and a half)
and When I am 150 pounds I want to know
what my sizes are going to be in clothes
1. jeans
2. shirt
4. underwear
5. bra
and anything else
my bra size right now is 36b
so yeah... thanks-
ANSWER:
A typical clothing size is equal to 10 pounds, so you can do the math. If you want to lose almost 50 pounds, that would be a drop of five clothing sizes. That rule of thumb will work with "clothes" and not lingerie. You'll probably go from a 7/8 underwear to a 5/6. The bra could be anything as everyone loses differently there. I lost 85 pounds five years ago and I only went from a 40B to a 36B. Good luck!
