While an actual rapid weight loss 'danger' is relatively small though quite genuine, the results, or lack of same, when combined with the loss of needed nutrients do not really seem worth the effort or risk. However, be aware that in the presence of some clinical conditions or while attempting to achieve rapid weight loss through extreme measures, the danger to health, and even life itself, can be quite real.

A better alternative to simply 'going on a diet' is to cut back on the food that you do eat, particularly empty foods such as those sweetened with sugar, or heavily processed foods, or to just make sure that it is healthy foods which you are eating. Through limiting of your calories, you ought to be able to accomplish some sort of weight loss in the time that you were wanting to. However, it is very important that you do stick to a healthy eating and living plan.

EXERCISE AND HEALTHY EATING AND LIVING

Along with healthy eating and living practices, another important component of weight loss should always be exercise. If you think you are interested in using a weight loss product, like a diet pill or a cleanse, to help you lose weight, it is important that you do the research first. It is extremely important that you proceed with the utmost caution if trying to achieve rapid weight loss still appeals to you. Although unexpected events or appearances will occur without much notice, most individuals have at least a month's worth of time before attending a large event such as a wedding or even going on a vacation to someplace where they wear bikinis all day. You can cheat one meal a week, but only one meal and be sure to really cheat when you do or you'll try to make up for it with other meals. Make a calorie sheet and write down everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, you eat or drink that has calories. Basically, everything except water. Make sure it adds up to whatever number you got earlier. Be sure to recalculate every few weeks as you lose weight.

      Many people don't realize just how important a well timed cardiovascular program is when it comes to eliminating body fat. Whether it's early morning, late evening, the most important thing is that you just do it. Continuous cardiovascular exercise, such as running, walking, jogging, stair-climbing, or cycling, sustained for at least 30 minutes, will burn body fat no matter when you do it. However for the maximum benefits of fat loss you MUST ensure that you are performing your cardiovascular training first thing in the morning. You should consider getting up early and doing cardio before you eat your first meal - even if you're not a "morning person." Early morning aerobic exercise on an empty stomach has three major advantages over exercising later in the day.

      Early in the morning before you eat, your levels of muscle and liver glycogen (stored carbohydrates) are low. If you eat dinner at 7 p.m. and you eat breakfast at 7 a.m., that's 12 hours without food. During this 12-hour overnight fast, your levels of glycogen slowly decline to provide glucose for various bodily functions that go on even while you sleep. As a result, you wake up in the morning with depleted glycogen and lower blood sugar - the optimum environment for burning fat instead of carbohydrate. How much more fat you'll burn is uncertain, but some studies have suggested that up to 300% more fat is burned when cardio is done in a fasted, glycogen-depleted state.

      I have been receiving a lot of e-mail lately about diet. In the past, I was never concerned about what I ate. I just went to the gym, trained hard, and that was the extent of my routine. Not until recently did I realize the power diet has over the way your body looks and performs. I believe that diet is at least 75% of the fitness equation. In this article, I'm going to describe in detail what I have learned about diet during my 12-week transition period.
      When to Eat and How Often
      This might sound strange, but you have to eat more often to lose fat and gain muscle. During my transition period, I never ate less than 6 meals a day.
      •Try to eat every 2 to 3 hours.
      •Do not eat complex carbohydrates after 6:00 p.m. or four to five hours before going to bed.
      •Try to eat one gram of protein per pound of lean body mass on lifting days and .8 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass on non-lifting days.
      •Never eat more than 70 grams of protein in one meal.
      Carbohydrates
      When I think of carbohydrates, I think of energy. Carbohydrates supply our bodies with the energy it needs to make it through a workout. Without an adequate supply of carbohydrates, the body goes into carbohydrate deprivation. This is called a state of ketosis (meaning our body is using protein as energy). This is not a good state to be in for long because it will rob the body of muscle tissue in an effort to create energy. On the other hand, if too many carbohydrates are consumed, they convert into stored fat. The idea is to consume just enough carbohydrates to make it through our workouts with sufficient energy. I have broken down carbohydrates into these three categories:
      •Simple carbs: These are sugars, or quick energy. They are absorbed very quickly into the body. Ex. Anything with sugar, also fruit
      •Complex carbs: This is where you get long-term energy for the day. These are long chained carbohydrates that brake down slower, giving us energy over a prolonged period of time. Ex. Oatmeal, potatoes, pasta, rice, breads
      •Fibrous carbs: These are things like vegetables. I think of them as roughage in order to stay regular. Make sure you include them in you later meals when you can't eat complex carbs. They are also a good source of vitamins. Ex. Leafy vegetables like lettuce.
      Protein
      Proteins are the building blocks of our muscles. Without a sufficient amount of protein in our diet, our muscles will not have the raw materials that they need to build up, or even hang on to what is already there.
      Net protein utilization: Not all protein is created equal. Different foods are absorbed more than others. For example, egg white protein is absorbed at 88%. That means we get about 9 eggs to our muscles. On the other hand, chicken breast are absorbed at 68%, meaning we get about 7 breasts to our muscles. It is imported to eat a wide verity of protein foods though; no one protein source has all the amino acids we need.
      •Whey protein (100%): the best source of whey protein is from protein supplements. It is also absorbed very fast by the body, so it is best to take this when your body needs amino acids quickly: like right after a workout or when you first get up in the morning.
      •Egg whites (88%)
      •Fish (78%)
      •Chicken breast (78%)
      •Soy protein: My one bit of advice would be to try and stay away from soy protein. It is not absorbed very well by the body.
      Fats
      We normally think of fats as being bad. The fact is certain fats are essential to building muscle and carrying out various functions of the body. There are 2 fat types we need to be concerned about:
      •Saturated fats: these are the bad fats. Avoid these fats as much as possible. You will find these types of fats mostly in meats
      •Unsaturated fats: these are the good fats. They are a good energy source and help us build muscle. You can find from plant oils. Peanuts are also a good source.
      Water
      Do not under estimate the importance of water! If you are looking to get lean, water will be your best friend. Drink as much as you can and as often as you can. Also, it is very important to drink lots of water when you're eating large amounts of protein to clean urea from the system.
      Vitamins & minerals
      As resistance training athletes, we have a greater need for vitamins & minerals. When we workout and bring blood to our muscles it is important that our blood is full of those essential vitamins & minerals if we want to grow.
      Supplements
      Supplements are just that, meaning they are used to supplement your diet, not replace it. Don't ever think of it that way.
      Hierarchy of supplements:
      I developed this hierarchy of supplements based on what I thought were the most important and also by price.
      •1. Proper diet: Without proper diet you are just wasting money on supplements. Start here! Do not think that supplements are going to do it for you alone.
      •2. Multi-vitamin & mineral: It is very important to have all your vitamins & minerals when resistance training. Most of us are lacking in some areas, make it a priority to make this your first supplement.
      •3. Protein powder: It is usually very hard to get all the protein you need from real foods. Powders make it much easier. Also, these powders are absorbed fast by the body making them ideal after workouts or before and after sleep.
      •4. Creatine: This is great for harder workouts. It also makes you muscles hang on to water, giving them a better environment to grow.
      •5. L-glutamine: This is an important amino acid in muscle recovery
      •6. Branch chained amino acid: These are great before and after workouts along with L-glutamine because it gives your muscles all the amino acids it needs to repair and grow.
      •7. ZMA: This helps you release more growth hormone while you sleep, increasing your size and strength.
      •8. Thermogenic: These really help in the fat loss process. They also help you hang on to more muscle while dieting due to the fact you can eat more.
      •9. Meal replacement: Although very expensive, meal replacements make it much more convenient to get some of your meals in. Also, you can get in more meals than if you were to eat only real foods.
      "The golden hour"
      Remember "The golden hour" because it will make things so much easier for you. "The golden hour" is a window of opportunity we have to get everything we have depleted in our body back in a short amount of time. Think of your muscles as a gas tank: When you workout, you use gas for energy or in this case glucose. After a workout, our muscles are in a unique state. They are able to fill back up very quickly leaving you full for the next workout. If you wait to long, your muscles don't fill back up as easily and the carbs you eat are more likely to be stored as fat. Doing this will also let you take advantage of insulin's muscle building effects from the simple carbs you have ingested. You want to ingest 50-75 grams of simple carbs right after a workout. Also, this is when you want to take your protein shake because it will absorb quickly and supply your muscles with the amino acids that they need.
      Insulin
      This is a very complicated subject, but all we need to know is that insulin can help us build muscle or can make us fat depending on the timing. Insulin is released by the pancreas in response to elevated blood sugar levels. We can achieve a high blood sugar level by ingesting simple carbs. Like "the golden hour" we have a window of opportunity to take advantage of the muscle building effects of the insulin without getting fat. We have about 4 or 5 hours after we workout to take advantage of insulin. If we take in too many simple carbs out of this window, we are very likely to store fat.
      Cheat day
      The theory behind the cheat days is you take one day every 2 weeks to eat anything you want and actually get leaner. It might sound crazy, but it worked for me. When you eat low carbs for a time for body begins to think it is not getting all the food it needs (because your not storing any fat) and begins to slow down your metabolism. When you bombard your body with food on that one day, it tricks your body into thinking it has all it needs and speeds your metabolism back up. I can tell you from experience, every day after a cheat day I felt leaner and looked better.
      Ketosis
      This is when your body uses protein for energy. This happens when we have too few carbs in the body or when we over train. I went into the state of ketosis for only the last week of my 12-week transition for a couple of reasons: (1) I wanted all of my muscles to shrink down so when I carbed back up, my skin would be tighter. (2) When you go into ketosis it seems to bring the water out from under the skin. Don't go into this state to loose fat. Without carbs your body can not burn fat effectively. You will loose weight rather quickly, but only because you don't have as much glycogen in the muscle. Also, you are simply loosing water. Remember that proteins are the building blocks for muscle and that means they are fair game for energy when in the state of ketosis. I would not recommend going into this state unless you are trying to get into a super ripped state for a short amount of time, like for a bodybuilding contest.

      your body is still growing and developing so you really should not cut calories. Try cutting out extra sugar such as soda, chips, candy, etc. since you play sports you should prob. still eat carbs before a big game for energy. Drink lots of water, eat frequently so your metabolism is working. Add an extra workout in if you want.

      there are not quick and easy ways, but you have plenty of time before end of april and may, and I think you can definitely get the bikini body you want by then. you can probably lose 40-50 lbs

      To lose fat you need to eat lean meats (chicken, fish, turkey, lean beef) , eggs, low gi fruits (apples, bananas, pineapple, oranges), green veggies (broccoli, celery, green lettuce, spinach), only whole wheat breads (look on the package and see if the first ingredient is whole wheat flour, if it is it should be good unless it has high fructose corn syrup like Mrs Bairds does). Jillian Michaels from biggest loser has a great quote, "before you eat your food ask yourself, does it have a momma or did it come from the ground? If not don't eat it." Eat 5 - 6 small meals a day, this will increase your metabolism and help you to not feel so hungry in between meals. It’s all about portion and calorie control regardless of what food you are eating, but remember cleaning up your diet and eating X amount of calories of lean good healthy foods instead of X amount of calories of candy bars (I know you are probably not eating 4 candy bars a day but its just an example) will help you lose it faster. The leaner you are eating the faster you will lose it, and you will get a toned healthy look instead of a skinny jiggly look. You also need to drink at least 8 glasses (8oz) of water a day. Sometimes hunger is mistaken for thirst so if you are hungry drink 8 oz of water and wait 30 minutes, if you are still hungry then eat a light healthy snack. Water also helps you feel fuller longer and helps flush out toxins that may prevent fat loss. Also allow your self a cheat day (but don’t go over board and eat everything in sight or like 5 cakes in that day). Allowing yourself a cheat day once a week will help cut out cravings… Think of it like a reward if you did well with your diet and exercise that week have a piece of pie… If not just stick with you healthy food.       You need to do a good mix of both cardio and strength training. Toning and building muscle strength will help you lose fat quicker as you will be burning calories all day to feed your muscle tone instead of just while you doing cardio activity and it increases metabolism. Running, walking, rollerblading, swimming are good cardio work outs. You can also get some at home videos. I personally like Gilad's Kick boxing, Cathe Friedrich, ten minute solutions videos (ten minute solutions are good because they have 5 ten minute segments and you can do one or all five or three or what ever you want to do at the time and they have a variety, like dance, pilates, yoga, etc.). Also if you get cable/satellite, find the Fittv channel and scroll through the guide and see if anything sounds interesting and do it or record it if it doesn't fit into your schedule at the time the program comes on. Get your self some 5 pound dumbbells or a gym member ship and do bicep curls, push ups, sit ups, squats, dead lifts, lunges, tricep over head extensions, chest presses, shoulder presses, etc. You can do most of this on your own if you just go and buy some free weights, but a gym membership is helpful as well. If you do end up getting a gym membership I would consult a personal trainer (most memberships come with a free session) they can show you what to do and come up with a meal plan for you...       Lastly, don't get discouraged, it takes time (it didn't didn't get there over night, its not coming off over night)... you should be losing 2 pounds of fat a week safely, more is not typically safe. but you could gain weight especially if you are gaining muscle. So if you get on the scale and it says you've gain two pounds don't freak out... just look in the mirror and go by how your clothes look and feel on you.       PLEASE, don't go the laxative route! First of all, you won't loose any weight, you'll lose a few water lbs, but gain them back before the reunion. I'm no expert on dieting, but I've struggled with weight my whole life and i've found there's only one safe way to lose 10 or more lbs in a week (years of trying different diets, fasting and excersing makes me a SELF proclaimed expert :) I had to go to a wedding and had to lose 15 or more to fit in my dress and only had a week. Lost it easy. It's a really hard diet to stick to (even for only a week), but it will work. PLEASE - THIS IS GIVEN ONLY WITH THE ASSUMPTION THAT YOU ARE AN ADULT, IN GOOD HEALTH AND UNDERSTAND THE IMPLICATIONS OF ANY DIET WHICH DEPRIVES THE BODY OF ANY TYPE OF NUTRITION! It would be irresponsible for me to suggest this without saying that, however, I've asked several doctors, and they both said that they see no reason in the world why this should be unhealthful, and suggest "If it works for you, go ahead!". In Northern California there is a diet that the mental health hospital uses to de-toxify some patients and the combination of these foods take more calories to burn that it gives the body. So you'll lose more weight than fasting. I'm not kidding either. Along with each day (below), make ahead of time a batch of this disgusting soup: (1 whole onion, 1 whole cabbage, 6 medium tomatoes, 1 package of lipton onion soup mix. Boil until veggies are soft. The more you eat of the above soup, the more weight you'll lose, and the better you'll feel at the end. I have a sheet which lists each day, discusses the soup in detail, the nutrition, etc.....and exactly WHY it works, etc...., but don't have the room here to write it...so if you like, just trust this:
      First day: East as much watermelon as you can stuff into your mouth. The more you eat, the more you lose. This first day, mostly gets rid of water. Eat the soup!
      Second day: Your body is already super hungry after yesterday, but you will probably be 3lbs lighter by tomorrow morning - so keep it up! The rest of the diet will work by the end, so don't get discouraged if you're on day 5 and only lost 4 or 5 lbs. It does catch up! Eat as much green leafy vegetables as possible. Again, as much as you can stuff. Eat the soup at every hunger pain.
      Third Day: Eat a combination of the above two days. You must STUFF though...as much as you can (without making yourself sick of course) - SOUP, SOUP, SOUP!!!
      Fourth Day: Weird, I know, but eat 6 oz. of lean beef and all the green veggies that you want (not stuff yourself), but until your quite full (but only 6 oz of the beef - any kind). Don't forget your soup - stuff, stuff, stuff.
      Fifth Day: If your still on the diet, you've gone farther than most people will. This diet makes you super hungry, because your body thinks it's not only NOT eating, but even worse....since the foods eaten burn faster than they do when even fasting, it feels even more starved. (this will not hurt you if done once in a while, in fact, I was told by two Doctors, that it's good for you). Eat 6 more oz of beef and 6 small tomatoes. And of course, as much of the soup as you can manage.
      6th day: 4 large bananas and 16 oz of milk - and stuff the soup down!
      7th day: Congrats! You should be at minimum of 10lbs lighter now. And you have enough energy to run a marathon, don't you? Hard, wasn't it? Ease back into eating and you won't gain much back, maybe a lb or two, if you watch it. Eat heartily of all the green veggies you want and have 1 cup of brown rice. Ease back on the soup (you're probably sick of it anywayz)

You need to think about many factors but most of them are related to issues we've known about for a very long time.       Keeping a food journal really does help. It will give you a much better sense of how much you are eating, and when, and why.

      Learn to count calories. At your current weight and activity level, you may possibly need about 2000 calories or more to maintain your current weight. So you will lose weight at a reasonable and healthy rate if you cut back to about 1600 or 1700 calories a day.

      Eat small amounts frequently, rather than three large meals. Never skip breakfast. Include some protein in your breakfast. It will help get you through the day.

      Drink plenty of water, at least 8 big glasses of water a day, and more if it is very hot, if you sweat a lot, or if you are exercising intensely, and eliminate fruit juices. Fruit juices have too many calories, so get your vitamins from fresh fruit, not the juice. You will begin to see changes in your body.

      Vary your routines. Don't eat the same number of calories every day (vary your calories from 1400 a day to 1900 or 2000 some days), eat a variety of foods, and do different kinds and amounts of exercise. You will lose weight much more efficiently if you mix things up from time to time so that your body doesn't adjust to any one routine.

      An area that many people overlook is getting enough sleep. You are much more likely to overeat or to binge eat if you are tired and not well rested, so get enough sleep.

    I am VERY picky I don't like lots of things. Is there anything I can do to lose weight and not have to eat nasty stuff like salad and other things? I don't like ANY fruit. Only vegetable I like is corn & green beans. Love meat. Is there anything I can do? Btw I'm a student so I need some ideas for lunch. Thanks!

      turkey, chicken, and fish are low in calories, so put that on whole wheat bread and fat-free mayo (actually tastes pretty good) and some tomato and lettuce (if u will eat it) and BAM! you got urself a sandwich! other than that, i suggest u start to exercise cause there isnt really much else that u will eat that is for weight-loss. but exercising is a good and healthy way to lose weight FAST...jogging and running is the most effective!       the sad part is it will take u 10-12 months.
      thats about 8-10 lbs/months

      i suggest u eat 1400-1600 calories.
      - dont eat much refined carbs
      (processed white bread)
      - eat plenty of fruits & vegis
      - ur plate at lunch & dinner should be
      30% meat 55% fruits or vegis 15% carbs
      - have a free day every saturday
      (but not something to fatty )
      (thinks like a medium fries shouldn't do much)

      exercise a key part in weight loss
      - do 30 - 60 mins of cardio 4-6 days a
      week ( cardio is thinks like walking,dancing)
      - weight training 2x a week 4problem areas
