Everywhere you look people in the United States are eating carbs. Whether its huge heaping bowls of pasta or massive dishes of rice, whether its sandwiches or mashed potatoes, carbs are a favorite across the nation, enjoyed everywhere by one and all. However, what does such a massive intake of carbs do to our bodies? Despite what the Department of Health tells us to eat, encouraging us to chow down on so many grains that they make up over fifty percent of our diet, what is the consequence of eating so much carbs?
First let's take a look at what happens when you eat carbs. Your body takes the carbs and pushes them through your digestive system, turning them into glucose which is our body's primary source of fuel. This glucose sweeps through our blood, feeding all the cells that need energy, and what is left over is then stored as glycogen in our muscles and liver. Any excess carbs that result after this storage will then be turned into fat via a process called 'de novo lipogenesis' (DNL).
However, short term studies have shown that DNL does not happen much or contribute much to fat stores for average, healthy people. Instead, as long as your muscles and liver aren't tapped out for storage space for glycogen, you should be fine, storing that instead. However, DNL can take place if your glycogen stores are indeed filled, and that is what happens under the following circumstances.
Say you are an inactive individual who does not exercise or move around much. Instead you spend most of your time lying on the couch or in bed or at your desk. Your body therefor does not burn off your glycogen reserves, resulting in their being filled up. Then say that you eat a lot of carbs on top of this inactive lifestyle, then DNL will indeed convert the excess glucose into fat and add to your fat reserves.
That is why eating an excess of carbs, especially starchy carbs is a bad idea if you do not exercise regularly. This problem is only exacerbated by eating fat alongside your heavy doses of carbs, because then not only do your carbs get turned into fat through DNL, your dietary fat goes right into your fat stores instead of being burned because you have so much glucose and glycogen at your disposal.

QUESTION:
Best Healthy Diet plan for perfect weight loss?
want to lose 200 poundsI want to lose 3 pounds a week until I reach and maintain a weight of 200 pounds.
-
ANSWER:
go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans.

QUESTION:
Whats a healthy, weight loss diet for a 14 year old girl?
I really want to lose about 30 pounds from my weight and i need help but i don't want to go unhealthy. i weigh 152 and i should weigh 120 i believe... wats a perfect, healthy diet i should follow and if it means i need to exercise (which i know i do) tell me how long each day and how many days a week.-
ANSWER:
Diet Plans for 14-Year-Old GirlsPlanning a diet for a teen girl can be tricky. Many teen girls suffer from bad self esteem or a skewed body image, and may resort to crash diets that they don't need to be healthy. Instead of suggesting a diet, suggest a healthy diet plan, where she can learn to eat properly, along with exercise to create a healthier self image. As long as your teen has a healthy body mass index, or BMI, then she does not need a diet to lose weight. A diet plan that can maintain her health is all that she needs.
Planning a Diet
1. When your 14-year-old girl indicates that she wants to eat healthier, or you've noticed her body changing, it's important to calculate her BMI to see where she falls. Unlike adult BMI, a teen's BMI is calculated and then compared to other teens to give a percentile that she is in for her weight and height, much like you'd receive at the doctor's office. The BMI can give you a clue as to whether she simply needs a diet plan to eat more healthy, or if she'll need a diet plan for weight loss. With a healthy BMI, your 14-year-old girl will enjoy better quality of life.
Regular Meals and Snacks
2. One of the most important things to incorporate into a 14-year-old girl's diet plan is regular meals and snacks throughout the day. Teenagers are especially susceptible to skipping meals like breakfast and lunch: the first because she's running late, and the second due to pressure from peers to eat as little as possible. However, skipping meals sends your 14-year-old's body into starvation mode, telling it to store up fat for the next skipped meal. Eating regular meals actually causes a teen's metabolism to run faster, burning more calories in preparation for the next snack. Talk to her about the importance of regular eating, both for maintaining energy, concentration and focus through the day, and as an important tool for weight loss.
Better Meals and Snacks
3. Too often teen girls eat meals and snacks that are less than ideal. While you want her to eat regularly, you also want her to eat quality food that will help her on her quest for a healthier diet. Make it easy for her by supporting her diet. Send her to school with a variety of healthy snacks like nuts, vegetables and crackers to snack on between school periods, and opt for a homemade lunch over cafeteria fare, which can be greasy and unhealthy. Talk to her about staying full with the right foods, those that are high in nutrients, but still low in fat and calories. Armed with the right information, your 14-year-old girl can follow a diet plan to keep her healthy, and gain eating tools to help her for the rest of her life.

QUESTION:
Starting to work full-time: perfect opportunity to start a weight loss diet, whats a good program? More inside?
I'll be waking up at 6 am, dropping my daughter (who I had 8 1/2 months ago and I still breastfeed, so keep breastfeeding in mind) off at school (child care) at 7:30 and going to work right across the street by 8 am. I work until 4:30 and will pick up my daughter right after by 5 pm. So I need an all day diet program. I will still be breastfeeding by pumping my milk. She eats a healthy menu of foods other than milk so my milk is just an addition and a supplement to her diet, so I'm not super worried about it. I'm not looking for an expensive diet program and I definitely don't have time to go to meetings like weight watchers has. Also-is there a safe/healthy/cheap detox program that I should do before starting? I start on Monday! Thanks!-

QUESTION:
I eat a perfectly normal Dominican meal three times a day, work out too and have perfect weight loss result?
I drink Hot chocolate and bread in the morning. Platanos (plantains) with eggs or salami or cheese for lunch. And, rice and beans with meat or chicken, spaghetti's or any other combination of food. I eat exactly how I used to eat in DR. And, since I've gotten fat again and I'm losing that weight, I'm losing my usual 5 punds a week. This is how I normally ate when I weighed 183 in DR(I weigh 273 right now, I lost 8 pounds after running and playing basketball for 8 days also using the stationary bike in the gym). This is not exactly a low-fat diet..... I think.Anyways, my question is; should I connect my weight lost with my age (17) and the metabolism I have, and of course the exercise? Because, whether I'm on a diet or not I lose the same amount of weight. Not including junk food though, I'm talking about home-made food. Thanks in advance for the help.
-
ANSWER:
Yes, you should connect your weight loss with your young age which gives you a fast metabolism and of course the excersize. Its hard to say weather or not your diet helped because I don't know what you used to eat, but if you used to eat fast foods and processed junk when you gained than yes, your home-cooked diet probably helped you. I would suggest switching a few things up though, like for breakfast eat some protein to keep you feeling full for the rest of the day (studies prove this works), for lunch stick with the eggs and not the salami or cheese as they are so high in fat, and make sure the spaghetti is whole wheat for dinner. And if the hot chocolate you have for breakfast is sugary, perhaps save calories by switching to sugar free? Congrats on your weight loss by the way, I agree that you should continue to avoid junk and stick with home-made holesomeness.

QUESTION:
Is this an okay weight loss diet, bare in mind im not a complete health freak so its no perfect.?
Right so im trying to lose weight
I personally think its healthy, not the best, but good enough!
But im asking your opinion.
But i want to diet on food and exercise i like not what everyone says is the best.Right so this is it..
I wake up and have 300 ml of skimmed milk.
Then i do a 40 minute workout on the cross trainer on high intensity.
Then for breakfast i have mashed banana on brown toast and 200ml of orange juice.
I also take cod liver oil and a multi vitamin.I dont have lunch, i dont have time, plus im not keen on eating in the day its just not me so i dont want to change that.
For dinner though i have a Weight Watchers meal of some kind which is high in protein and low in fat.
Then in the evening i will have 2 slices of brown toast with very light butter... its my healthy treat of the night and its not going!
I also drink plenty of water as well.
No it dosnt contain every fruit and veg inthe world becasue i made this diet to suit me and help me lose weight.Right so this is my plan, i have lost 4lb on it so far and its doing me fine
but i want a real persons opinion anyway, would you do something ultra healthy or suit it to you and keep it real?
-
ANSWER:
I think you need a bit more protein in your diet.
Also we benefit more from vitamins and nutrients in food than from synthetic ones.
Could you eat oily fish now and then? Save money on the cod liver oil capsules.
If you are not over fond of fruit and veg, why not include more fruit juice, make a fruit salad?
Soup is dead easy to make too. It could increase your intake of vegetables.I would add something tasty to my nightly treat too.
Celery or carrot batons dipped in low fat hummus with a squeeze of lemon juice mixed in. You can make it lower fat by mixing it with low fat cheese spread. Tasty too.Where's the rabbit food? Crisp lettuce dipped in the hummus mixture. sliced tomato ditto.

QUESTION:
I have the PERFECT diet for losing a ton of weight!?
I have found the perfect diet for losing a ton of weight! It works fast and it shows great results. You can eat almost anything you want, except for really high-fat foods, and you don't have to count calories or grams. Know what it is? It's the "exercise diet". All you have to do is get up off your fat ass, put down the bon bons, potato chips, and Coke, and go for a walk. Sound tough? It isn't as hard as you think! And the great part is, once you do it a couple of times, it won't be hard at all. And in fact, after you do it for a while, you can even advance into even MORE weight loss by actually running or riding a bike. Can someone give this a try and let me know how it works? Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Try this...walking will only get you so far. Here is a routine that anyone can use. It will build you up to running a sub 30 minute 5 K....I posted it on our free site. Nothing to sign up for, just read and workout.

ANSWER:
Reduce your caloric intake to 1,200-1,300 calories and your total fat grams to less than 25-40 grams. I'm Vegetarian and I always have a lot of protein, tons of snacks, and healthy food to choose from. I barely work out and I’m super thin; WALK...it is actually better than running....running makes your ankles weak over time. If you do run, jog on the treadmill with no incline. Do the bike too-the more you petal the more calories you burn....remember a thin or slender person is this way because it is 90% of what we eat and 10% workout/exercise. With cardio The belly is actually burning fat btw b/c you are sweating all over-Not a lot of people know that walking on treadmill/bike/or walking inside/outside burns fat around the mid section...but it is so true. If you’re into sit ups, you should AT LEAST try to do 3 sets of 10 on a mat. If you’re not familiar with sit ups, just ask personal trainers at a gym one day-you can just walk in and ask them-they wouldn't hesitate to answer. Try crunches too about 2 to 3 times a week to make abs show quicker! ALSO IMPORTANT: Do not use incline o.k.? -because your thighs will get bigger. Let's be aware that it is impossible to gain muscle while doing cardio. But hey, if you want to burn fat faster BUT GAIN A LITTLE MUSCLE TOO then try little to no resistance!!
Cardio also will burn the extra surrounding fat that is covering muscles so definitely do cardio. Tapes of Cardio Burning or fat burning or Belly fat burning could work in your case since you want to loose a lot of weight. Or Buy a treadmill or bike so that this will always be available for you to do...join a gym if u want too.
Being a vegetarian or even a person that eats red meat or dairy once in a while is the best to be right now for you. Just give it a little try or at least cut down on red meat. Red meat are foods that stay inside your intestines which I would imagine would make you weigh more on scale than you should. I’m not trying to promote becoming a vegetarian, but giving this a try could help with swifter weight loss.Having a high protein diet is good in loosing fat, and keeping lean muscles, because usually the more protein is in a food-the less calories from fat and bad fat (trans fat and saturated fat)..I eat lots of beans (Lima, Soy, red kidney, black, navy- RAW; never in can(but that is just my choice-if you wanted canned its NOOOO PROBLEM), all legumes. No sugar applesauce is great too and a great snack-find it in jar form or mini cases. Try Quinoa too, you can find it in your grain, beans, or nut aisles. You can sprinkle it on all veggies and salads. I also eat lots of salad with tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, and carrots! You can eat salad with no dressing too or this one dressing thy i usually eat which is an Asian dressing that has 50 calories per two tablespoons. Try Bear Naked products-particularly what I only eat of this product are 2 of the many which are Bear Naked's Fit, Vanilla Almond Crunch and Bear Naked's Fit Triple Berry Crunch. The entire kosher aisle has manyyyy products to munch on! Like Matzos that go up to 150 calories per cracker. I like the 100-110 calories per cracker. Try Edamame too! - Tons of protein! (Veggie section even though it’s a bean loll)-get the non gmo kind. Dairy, hnmm well cheese-I'd suggest you go for yogurt over cheese and id cut back off the cheese for awhile because of the high saturated fat which is fat that is difficult for the body to break down thus causing unnecessary places for fat to sit on body because it doesn't know how to appropriately break it down. Try a yogurt called "Fage 0" or "Chobani" yogurt. ALL vegetables are fun and easy to cook-broccoli, asparagus, yams, pumpkin, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower-and you can do whatever you want with it (boil, steam, baked...etc.) Try having your meals with colors of the vegetables. For example, if you make grilled chicken or fish then make sure there are tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots on that plate! Oh hey, when you are buying bread or wheat, if the label doesn't say 100% whole wheat then chances are that it is not whole wheat. Make sure you get the 100% whole wheat ones (it will say “WHOLE” wheat as its first ingredient) on foods and carbohydrates aka grains. There is also absolutely no sugar in Matzos btw (sugar if not burned turns into fat btw). I bake Matzos for about 2 minutes and then break them up into squares so it looks like chips! Oh, did I mention they are extremely delicious!? Miso soups and brown rice are great too and cut back or limit your refined foods.

QUESTION:
i need some dieting and weight loss tips?
i'm 14 and i'm finally trying to stick to my diet plan, but i made it myself, and i need some tips & advice on the best ways to loose weight.
my "diet plan" is pretty much this:
- only one can of pop every other day
- fast food only once a week
- cut down on snacks
- drink juice, water, and tea
- be careful on carbs [like pizza, bagels, etc]
- do at least 50-100 crunches every day or twice a dayright now i drink about 2 cans of pop a day, and eat fast food almost everyday, and i really want to be a size 1/3 by next fall, right now im about:
size: 5/7
weight: 134-140-ish
height: 5'5''
shirt size: medium
hoodie size: largei want to lose at least 5-10 lbs by summer
then by summer time i will start exersizing more and keep eating that way & stuff. and then i'll aim to lose 10-15 more lbs.do you think that "diet plan" will work okay? what are some other tips that will help me lose more weight or lose weight easier. i also really hate my stomach and want that to be flat.
and i know, everyone on yahoo answers says "your body is perfect, dont lose weight" PLEASE PLEASE DONT TELL ME THAT!!
i'm also going to try to eat more fruit and drink alot of water, but its hard for me to not eat late, like past 7 p.m for example, because im always hungry at night, and the only time i can eat fresh fruit is at my grandmas house on weekends, because my mom wont buy it!!
-
ANSWER:
i would suggest to cut out soda and fast food completely until you reach your goal weight.and instead of doing crunches (which don't really work) you should do 30-40mins of cardio like running/jogging/walking.
count your calories every single day. you should consume between 1200-1400 cals a day.
and try hard not to eat after 7pm. you dont want food sitting in your stomach while your sleeping.
and you are very lucky to be only 14 and have a fast metabolism because if you were 19/20 and eating and drinking the way you do now you'd probably be 20 lbs heavier.
watch what you eat girl!

QUESTION:
Would this be considered a "yo-yo diet" or not because the weight loss/gain is not extreme enough?
I'm female, 6'1" tall, 21 years old. My healthy weight (according to BMI) is 140-189. I'm currently at 155, and I like my weight were it is. I've been close to 140 and thought I looked too thin (others did as well). Ive been close to 170 and thought I looked large.I'm vegan. I eat healthy, and exercise 5x per week just to stay healthy and fit. But im not perfect. I'll occasionally eat "bad" food. I weigh myself 2 x per week. If I gain 4-5lbs, I'll go on a mini weight loss attempt to lose those 4-5lbs.
Is this "lose weight when I've gained 4-5lbs" considered a "yo-yo diet" which are famous for being unhealthy? Or is a 4-5lb gain/lose not extreme enough to be considered a yo-yo diet? I'm asking because I want to be as healthy as I can, and it's IMPOSSIBLE to ensure day after day I stay EXACTLY at 155lbs. I mean, even menstration may lead to a 3lb fluctuation (hence I will only attempt weight loss at 4-5 lbs because I don't vary that much around ovulation or menstration).
Is what I do considered a "yo-yo diet"? Or do people HONESTLY aim to stay EXACTLY at a certain pound weight (e.g. 155 lbs EXACTLY day after day ( I think this would be maddening to attempt!))? I don't CONSIDER it a "yo-yo diet" myself, because I have TRIED in the past to stay EXACTLY at 155lbs by weighing myself every day----but I drove myself crazy with fat/calorie/sugar/cholesterol counting EVERYTHING, never allowing myself ANY sort of treat, and perhaps exercising too much. I think in order for it to be considered a yo-yo diet, you need to be repeatedly gaining-losing atleast 10lbs, NOT repeatedly (by repeatedly, I don't mean, in a short time) gaining/losing 5lbs.
I may have to "diet" myself back 5lbs like once every 1.5 months or so. I don't think that's too bad. I mean, you have to live too. I can't deny myself every treat, and I can't beat myself up when I can't exercise one day because I'm just too frigging sore. That's why I use the "5 lb rule" for me. It works and allows me to live. Do you think this is an unhealthy "yo yo diet"?

ANSWER:
I don't think you really need to lose that much weight, but you can eat and drink healthier stuff and you can exercise..Here are a few tips;
WHEN to eat for losing weight...
• Eat (at least) three times a day.
Because when you eat only once a day, your metabolism gets slower than it already is! That's the main reason. Sounds funny, but to lose weight... you must eat (the right things, of course)
• Eat low-fat, high-fiber foods such as salads and vegetable pastas.
• Your last meal should be before 18:00. Try.
OK, one apple after 18:00
• Don't starve
Starvation is not good for losing weight, nor your health.
Starvation is the worse thing you can do in a weight loss diet.
• Try oatmeal instead of cornflakes for breakfast--eating oatmeal can help reduce cholesterol levels, and its high fiber content will keep you full longer.WHAT to drink for losing weight...
• Drink 6-8 glasses of water every day !
Can be tap, plain, mineral, sparkling. I just love mineral sparkling water!
This improves your bowel, reduces the "hunger" sensation, and hydrates your skin. Your skin will look much better after the first weeks!
Don't believe the slogan "water makes me fat". Beside being stupid... you might get into serious troubles with your kidneys.
• Drink ONLY natural juices, freshly squeezed!
Don't drink Coca Cola, Pepsi, Spite etc. during the diet. Even lite or light versions.
• Avoid those vending machines by carrying around your own healthful foods and leaving pocket change at home.Exercise for losing weight...
• If you want quicker results - exercise would be good.
• Start a regular exercise program and stick with it. Don't be afraid of those sweat suits and Lycra pants!
• Start swimming. Swimming is an excellent exercise to get involved with, since it increases blood flow and uses muscles we don't regularly use. Start a swimming program and try to do it 3 times a week. You will feel excellent and rejuvenated.
• Choose an exercise program that you enjoy, and don't shun the unconventional. For instance, did you know that regular vigorous dancing is exercise too?
• Also Cardiovascular exercises such as running, jogging, or aerobics will help you lose that unwanted belly fat. Weight training can also help you lose body fat because the more muscle mass you have, the more ability your system has to burn body fat.Good luck!

QUESTION:
dangerous weight loss?
Hi! As a new year’s resolution, I vowed to lose weight. I have been losing 2 lbs. average per week. I am now 145, and at 5 foot 9 inches, I think this is a perfect weight for me. My diet is pretty strict. For breakfast I eat a 100 cal yogurt and a 150 cal oat bran muffin. I also take a Centrum women’s vitamin. Then I will walk on the treadmill @3mph on a 10% grade. The treadmill says I burn 220 calories but I don’t think it’s that much. For lunch I will have 180 cal soup, another oat bran muffin, and a cup of raspberries. Or I might have sushi. It depends on the day. For dinner I might have grilled vegetables and salmon. My total daily calorie intake is probably close to 1000. I read online that this is terribly unhealthy and “anorexic” (which I don’t want to be considered). Various internet sources said that it is deadly, and at the least you’ll lose your hair, muscles, periods, and become really tired! I am now scared for my health. If I knew my diet would have been this unhealthy, I wouldn’t have done it. My question is, how unhealthy is my diet? How many calories should I be eating? And how do I start maintaining my current weight without gaining any back?
Thanks a lot!
I'm 18 by the way.-
ANSWER:
2lbs per week is too fast. Losing between a half to 1 pound per week is pretty good.Your diet is pretty strict, mainly on the carbs side. It was good call to take the Centrum vitamins (you might not be getting all the energy/protein you need from your diet, but at least you're getting your vitamins and minerals right).
It's a pretty well balanced diet, and the only thing I would say is to try some meat (preferrably poultry) every other day and increase your carb intake. For example, forget the oat bran muffin for lunch, and eat some rice, potatoes (not fries) or bread. Also, try to snack, I mean, try to eat every 3 1/2 hours. You won't be so hungry and you'll increase your calorie intake a bit.
Also, if you want, you can really start eating a lot more and just increasing your amount of daily exercise, i.e., running (0%) instead of walking for example, or just walking longer. Try to perform different exercises, not just climbing, so your work different groups of muscles and do not put strain always on the same joint (climbing is not good for knees in the long run).
Also, at 18, you might still be growing. Do not restrict your calorie intake too much.
The average adult woman should eat between 1800 to 2000 calories per day. But it all depends on how much you exercise really. The thing is: exercise more, eat more, exercise less, eat less. However, do exercise; it's good.

QUESTION:
I'm seeking diets for quick weight loss. Please help 911
?
Hi. I'm searching for an all natural diet & nutrition program for my BIG wedding day. I flew down to California last month and had the most gorgeous designer wedding dress designed just for me. When i flew back for my final fitting...i looked like the perfect princess ready to be united with my prince to be.My bridal party along with a few close co-workers gathered in my living room today as we drank some tasty wine accompanied by a few delicious snacks, while anxiously waiting for the ups guy to a arrive with my exclusive wedding dress. I opened the box and everyone just loved all the wonderful details including myself and i just couldn't wait to try it on.
As i was sliding the dress up my leg area, the dress STOPPED around my hips and i SCREAMED at the top of my lungs out of panic, shock and embarrassment. Everyone knew i had gained a few pounds over the last month or so, but i guess i didn't notice. As i stood there in my bedroom mirror this took me back to when i was in high school and i couldn't fit into my cheerleader uniform. What a bad memory
This time in my life I'm looking for a diet solution that will not only allow me to fit into my wedding dress on January 15th 2010 but i also want to maintain my weight loss and avoid turning back into porky pig after my Big day. I'm finally ready for a lifestyle change. Please help. I have cried my eyes out today. I need some beauty rest.
Thanks in advance

ANSWER:
Hi. I hope that you were able to sleep away the bad nightmare that you experienced the other day?
After reading your story, it sounds like you were traumatized. My heart goes out to you.Well, the good news is that you still have plenty of time to get into shape before 1-15-2010. My next door neighbor Kate had introduced me to her secret solution to weight loss about a year ago while watching her shed 64 pounds with little effort, after given birth to twin boys. Kate's dramatic
weight loss caused quite a bit of conversation in our neighborhood and everyone including myself wanted to know (what was she doing)? I listened as she shared openly with everyone about a program that allowed her to "stop dieting, start eating while reaping amazing results."I was eager to put the program that Kate was using to the test, considering i had some some extra belly fat that i wanted to get rid of that just kept hanging around. Within about 4 1/2 weeks i looked like i stepped out of the G Q magazine. I am so pleased with the results and I'm able to wear my favorite abercrombie sweater without looking as if i gobbled up a whole turkey. Lol I had lied and told my girl friend that i lost the sweater because i was to ashamed to admit that i couldn't fit it.
Almost everyone at my local book club are applying this amazing program to their everyday life, after seeing my results. It's been a little over a year and everyone including myself is still looking movie star ready that are following this unique program.
Here is the website where you can learn more about it:

I hope that i was able to help. Best wishes to you and your husband to be on your special day.
God bless,

QUESTION:
Law of attraction / The Secret weight loss question?
Hi there
I have just read THE SECRET and am applying it to weight loss. I have stopped thinking about diets after 6 years of them not working! I feel better in myself. I have written down my ideal weight and stuck it on my scales. I won't weigh myself yet. I keep visualising myself at my ideal size in a green dress on my Birthday in Feb 2010. I keep saying in my head I am my perfect weight and looking a lot at a photo I have of myself at this perfect weight. Can anyone else tell Me if this has worked for them and if there is anything else I can be doing too? thanks so much! xx-
ANSWER:
You are doing great. But don't forget a healthy diet and exercise every day. This isn't magic and we all have to do the physical part of what we desire. It works so keep believing.

QUESTION:
i just want to lose weight but i cant diet! (also does an exersise bike burn fat from legs or make them biger)?
it's coming into hotter weather now and i'm starting to go to the beach at last!!!! (i love summer) but my thighs are kind of jiggly (gross i know) and i have like an extra chunk at the bottom of my belly (yep gross again you guessed it!) i have asked my mum about dieting but her answer is always 'you dont need to diet your perfect honestly, besides you will become anorexic' when i tell her it would be a bit hard for me to be that (no way i could stop eating ahah) but i just feel i am fat. first off i have a school uniform that does nobody any justice unless you really are a twig so i allways feel very fat in my uniform but so does everybody. i bought an exersise bike but was wondering if doing that will burn the fat off my legs or just make them more bulky and muscular? i tried dieting once but its impossible for me to stick to it i just see the food and have to eat it. im so self conscious when it comes to my weight though and lately i wouldnt mind being anorexic. also before you say it i cant go to a gym (too young) and my weight loss has to be inside as my mother is not going to take me hiking (she has a bad leg anyways) and my freinds i am sure will not want to go exercising with me lol please help me!
-
ANSWER:
Take a little advice from someone who also is working on losing weight now.. You do nottttt want to be anorexic it's not a good thing it's an illness if you become anorexic you will have gross hair it will all thin out and terrible skin so you still won't be happy. I'm eating cereal for breakfast then no snacking til dinner unless it's a piece of fruit then cereal again at dinner with ryvita and dairylea light cheese and I go swimming at least twice a week...works wonders. Just cut all the crap out and keep busy x

QUESTION:
any weight loss camps in singapore for young women?
been tryin to lose some wieght and jus don really have the perseverance to carry on with the strict exercise and diet regime. I figured a fitness camp would be perfect, maybe for like 2 mths, where participants get to eat healthier food options and get to do adventure/fitness stuff. any ideas if we have anything like that in singapore?-
ANSWER:
Weight loss is really quite simple; there are only two things you need do to reach your goals:1. Restrict daily calories to 1600 calories per day. By increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat, you will be able to keep your intake at this level without feeling hungry or uncomfortable.
2. Exercise for one hour a day, every single day. It can be anything from pilates to just plain walking, but do it. One hour. Every day.
This is a pretty simple recipe for weight loss, but it works. It has worked for me; I have lost 62 pounds this way. It will work for you if you commit to it and stick to it.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Weight loss plan for a 13 year old girl?
Hey guys! Well, I'm 13, 5'6", and 130lbs. About a month ago I was around 123lbs and I was generally happy with myself back then. Now, when I look at myself I can see the 7 pounds that I just packed on. Basically I would like to loose 10 pounds. I'm not big on exercising because I don't want my mom to know, or any of my family for that matter. What is some healthy diet plans you would recommended for me? Keep in mind, I can't go and buy anything new or extra. Also, please don't tell me I don't need to loose weight, I was at the doctor when I weighed that 123 and he said that was the PERFECT weight, so I want to get to that, and a little bit lower for swimsuit season. Thanks a bunch:)-
ANSWER:
Your weight is right on the normal for a BMI of 21 for your height and age. The only healthy way for you to lose weight is to exercise - I recommend against dieting. If you want to change what types of food you eat while eating the same amount, eat fewer carbs and starches and increase vegetables and proteins.

Ok, i'm a 13 year old girl. i'm 5'4 and a half, and i'm like 126 pounds? my doctor says im at a perfect weight for my height and age. i am a womens size 4..like in american eagle abd stuff. i'd like to go down to a size 2 or 0. i think i look fine from the side, but i feel like i look HUGGGGE from the front straight on! any exercises? i haven't gotten my period yet, if that matters. but i basically want to get rid of my hip fat! i dont wanna build muscle underneath my stomach fat because then i'll look bigger. any suggestions???? and i'd like to do this within 2-3 weeks. (i want to do it in 2 weeks, if possible.)
i only drink water.
do you know any exercises that get rid of stomach fat in 2 weeeks for 10-15 minutes each day? please andd thank you! ohh, and i dont really wanna go on a diet. haha i love food! everyone does. sooo.........yeahh. i need exercises for JUST STOMACH FAT!
i'm not trying to be concited, but i look prettyyy good everywhere else! i just wanna target my stomach fat!Thankkkk ya! <3
-
ANSWER:
Size 4 is already very thin. If you went down to 0 or 2, you'd be underweight. Try starting light strength training to tone your muscles a little. you don't need to lift heavy, just enough to feel resistance. Or you can do body weight exercises like different crunches, push ups, stuff like that. You won't look bigger. Just more toned and healthy.

ANSWER:
Go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food after 7
p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on your
initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your diet is
still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to calculate points or to buy special meals or plans.

Do these snacks seem good for weight loss?
I'm a vegan and my meals are perfect and healthy. Sometimes, though, I make poor choices snacking. Will you tell me if these are good diet snacks that promote weight loss and health? These will be consumed after lunch and after dinner.
Afternoon Snacks
-a piece of fruit (apple, orange, banana etc.)
-applesauce
-mandarin oranges
-fruit strip
-15 almonds
-carrots and hummusEvening Snacks
-a bowl of cereal with soy milk
-a veggie hot dog and a banana (weird combo, I know)
-1 piece of cinnamon toast
Will these cause a 5'7 female to lose weight?-
ANSWER:
These all seem great !
Except for the veggie hot dog and with a banana at night,
seems a little heavy.
See, at night time, it's when you're supposed to eat the lease because you're stomach isn't functioning as well as it did in the day time, so it's most likely to turn into fat.

I currently weigh 140 pounds (10 stone) and my height is 5’6. according to various sources, I’m at the perfect for weight for my size, still, I have a bulging stomach that measures 35 inches (I can still fit in a 30 waist lol) and have the dreaded “moobs”. I aiming to get down to 130 pounds (9 stone) but will the last 10 pounds really make much of a difference? I can’t see my stomach disappearing after losing just 10 pounds and I really don’t want to go any lower than 130 pounds as it would be unhealthy.I’m on a low calorie diet right now. I’ve multiplied my ideal weight by 11, giving me 1430 calories daily and I exercise too, burning around 250 – 400 calories daily. What else can I do to get rid of the stubborn fat?

QUESTION:
I need help with my weight loss?
I have lost 83 pounds, my BMI is currently 28.1. I am 5'6 and 174 pounds. I work out 5-6 days a week, mostly cardio. I either run 6.5 miles or spend 45 minutes on the elliptical (high intensity). I eat around 1500-1800 calories a day. I don't drink sodas, only water and green tea. My diet isn't perfect, but I don't eat fast food, sweets, etc. I am a full time student in college and I work a job on the side as well.At first, the weight was falling off of me and now it's painfully slow. I don't have time to really cook for myself often, as I am always on the go. I want any suggestions you all might have on continuing my weight loss and improving my fitness. I'd like to lose about 20-25 more pounds. Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
For a month, make a concerted effort to eat as much fruit and veggies as you can (amounts don't matter - just be careful with avocados, pumpkin, potatoes) drink water every time you think about it and don't forget cereals, legumes and nuts. Try to steer clear of dairy products, just for the month, just to get you over the plateau which happens when your fat loss and muscle building even out and nothing seems to be happening. Its like a quick start for your metabolism. Capsicum in a capsule form is also helpful to get things happening again. I lost 140lbs in 12 months on this plan (basically) but had to 'kick start it' every 4 months to rev up my metabolism.

QUESTION:
Any P90X weight loss results for women?
My boyfriend just bought P90X and I've seen some youtube videos and testimonials from some people, but I wanted to know more. I want to know if anyone has lost weight on P90X without using the included diet plan? I know the diet plan would work, but I don't want to go by that. I've lost weight before by eating what I want and just keeping the calories below 1400; however, in the book it says you NEED to follow the included diet plan because of the perfect proportion of protein and carbs and blah blah blah. I already know that I WILL lose weight if I just keep my calories at 1400 and workout everyday, I just want to know if any other women out there have had any WEIGHT LOSS success?
The reason I don't want to follow the diet plan is because I'm a college student and I don't have the money to buy all these fancy foods. I've read through the book and I can already see I'd have to buy all kind of stuff and cook foods that I don't know how to cook. I don't have the money to do this, this is why I'm asking for ANY alternatives that have WORKED.-
ANSWER:
First off im a guy but I do the p90x, and have lost weight and seens significant muscle increase. As for dieting i eat anything i want aside from alchohol but i focre myself to keep it to 1800 a day when working out and 1500 when not working out. Best of luck to you!

QUESTION:
Will I lose some weight by Dec 16th on a 1,500 cal diet?
I am a female, 5'7 125 lbs perfect BMI. My wedding is December 16th. There are a few places I would like to lose a little womanly fat like on my tummy, my bum, and my thighs. I did the Body for Life program during the summer so I have some muscles already (especially on my arms) and I don't want them to get any bigger, so I am not going to weight train. If I do a 1,500 calorie diet, take Tonalin CLA, and do my Gazelle for an hour every other day, will I lose a little weight? I just want to get rid of that last body fat, I'm not looking for major weight loss I know I'm healthy.
I pretty much eat whatever I want whenever I want and I always stay the same weight-
ANSWER:
You don't really sound like you need to lose any weight, just tone up your body if you are worried about certain areas. 1500 calories is probably ok for someone of your weight, but you'll need to lift some weights and do some butt, ab and waist exercises to tone up those areas you are worried about. Get a yoga or pilates video--they are super for working your core and shaping your body.

QUESTION:
What prescription weight loss pills work best?
I know that many people are against weight loss pills; if you are, please don't answer. I am 28, 5'6 and about 200 lbs. I have gained over 50 lbs in less then two years and I have no idea why. My diet and level of activity hasn't really changed. I am not on a strict diet or exercise plan, but I eat sensibly and stay active. I don't have any medical conditions, and besides my weight, my doctor says I am in perfect health. Anyway, now I am looking into diet pills...ones that will help me loose weight, but more important, keep me from gaining even more. I would like to hear from people with first hand knowledge of the pills and their results. So far I am looking at: Adipex, Xenical, and Accomplia. If you have tried one of these or know of another one that has worked great for you please let me know. Also if someone could recommend a reliable website to purchase from, it would be a huge help. Thanks so much!!
I also wanted to add that I jog on my treadmill and work out on my Total Gym about 3 times a week. I also only drink bottled water, except for breakfast I drink OJ. I would say I drink about 7 16.9oz bottles a day. So please don’t think I am totally lazy and want an easy fix, just some extra help.-
ANSWER:
I took phentermine that I got from my doctor. I had tried about everything OTC and I was really skeptical when my dr suggested to try this but omg they really work! I strongly suggest going to the dr to get them and not get them online. Good luck and if you have any questions just ask!

I have "Plateaued" at 210 for nearly 2 weeks now.The protein I am taking is "Isopure", which doesn't have a lot of the added sugars, artificial flavors and colors, and useless minerals like the cheaper brands have. I started taking about 1/2 the recommended protein dose yesterday, and also have begun taking Jack3d before working out. I am CAREFULLY spacing the supplements out to avoid a caffeine overload.
I also mix a tbsp honey and tbsp of Bragg raw apple cider vinegar with 10 ounces of water prior to workout, and also take a tbsp of raw, unfiltered Coconut Oil prior to workout.
My workouts consist of running between 4-7 miles at a moderate pace one day, and weight training in the gym for a little over an hour the following day. Usually take 1 or 2 days off per week, not always consecutive.
By taking this half-dose of protein after workouts, will I be able to gain lean muscle and still burn off the fat? I am not a hard core body builder looking to "bulk up," I just want to have a good body once again, and work my way down below 180 lbs where I belong. All the magazines and websites tell me the more muscle you gain, the easier it is to burn fat.
My diet is far from perfect, but I have all but eliminated junk food and fast food.
Any thoughts?

QUESTION:
Why can't I lose weight?
I have 100 pounds to lose. I go to the gym at least five times a week. I work out doing water fitness for one and half to three hours every time. I have been doing this for five weeks now with no weight loss. My diet isn't perfect, but it isn't terrible either. If I go out I order off the kids menu, so I am careful about portions.
As asked I drink anywhere from five to eight glasses on lemon water a day. I try to avoid soft drinks, but do have them occasionally. I agree with most of you that although I am eating smaller portions it may be that my food choices are not the best. The thing is a few months ago I went on an all organic diet, cut out all pastry, and allot of carbs, for three months not any weight loss then either, but at that time I wasn't exercising. I guess I got turned off doing a diet so strict. I will keep a food journal, and take all your advice regarding what types of foods I am eating. Thank you for all your help.-
ANSWER:
Ummm, ordering a McDonald's kids meal is still a crappy diet choice. Just because the salty, fatty burger and fries are smaller doesn't mean they're not still salty and fatty. Try actually eating healthy foods that are low in calories (i.e. have a nice salad with grilled chicken)...

QUESTION:
How to hide weight loss from my parents?
I really want to lose 9-14 pounds, so that I am 95-100 pounds. I know this sounds bad, but I am 5'4, so I'm short. My mom is 5'8 and my dad is 5'7.5, so I'm the shortest one in my family. I'm also 14, 15 at the end of May. Don't say it's stupid. I checked online. At 95 pounds, I would be in the 5.5th percentile, so I still wouldn't be underweight. At 94 pounds, however, I would be underweight. I'm currently 109 pounds. A few days ago, I weighed 105. I've gained 4 pounds in the past 3 days. I was sick and started eating normally again, so that's why I gained. It's actually been really hard to eat normally because all the weight is going straight to my stomach, so I have a little bit of a belly now, which I hate. Before, I had a completely flat stomach. I'm going to have to gain back 5-10 pounds eventually, because I have to go back to the doctors and they will be very concerned if I've still lost weight (because of that sickness I was talking about). After that, however, I'll diet again. I just want to reduce the size of my thighs. I can't wear denim shorts because the 00's are too small for my thighs, but just perfect for my waist. I'm a female by the way. So, I just want to be skinny again. At the beginning of the school year, in August, I weighed 119. I was so fat and can't go back there again. Also, I have a small build and the person I get my build from was apparently very "big" at one time, and I'm so afraid of becoming "big" like her. Also, both my parents are dieting and so is my brother in college, so I feel like I need to diet to fit in with my family. I also want to be skinny again, like I was just a few days ago. I'm exercising for 1 hour every day and 2 hours Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I'm consuming between 900 and 1300 calories. I weigh myself constantly, like 2-4 times a day, so I will know if I am losing weight or not. However, my mom always freaks out when I start to lose weight, as I've dieted before and gotten down to 102 before gaining weight again. That was on 700-1000 calories every day. She was really worried. I don't want her to worry about me anymore than she already does. The way I eat is a constant topic of conversation with my parents. Also, whenever I eat a real meal (not too often, only dinner usually), my dad's always like "glad to see you eating" or something about my eating. So, my question is, how can I hide my weight loss from my parents? I already wear a baggy sweatshirt every, but my mom says she can always see it in my face. How can I hide losing weight from my parents and how can I avoid my parents as long as possible. I AM taking prevacid every day for my stomach and also this one laxative (both by doctor's order), but neither of them are affecting my appetite or my diet. Please, no rude or unhelpful answers. No answers saying I have a "problem" because I really don't and it's not like anyone would notice if I did, considering people at school already think I'm anorexic, which I AM NOT. Thanks
One additional, unrelated question. Even though I am 14, almost 15, if my parents put focus on weight, weight loss, dieting, etc. am I more likely to develop an eating disorder?-
ANSWER:
Honey you do sound like you have an eating disorder, probably anorexia. You don't want to admit it and you need help. The first step toward recovery is admitting you have a problem. Talk to your parents and go to the doctors and they may diagnose you.If you "really don't" have a problem, then why are you feeling fat when you really aren't? This is more than an image problem, it sounds like an eating disorder, and if you don't get help soon, it will spiral out of control and down a dark, scary path. Keep your head high, and get help soon.

QUESTION:
Will I lose weight before Dec 16th on a 1,500 cal diet?
I am a female, 5'7 125 lbs perfect BMI. My wedding is December 16th. There are a few places I would like to lose a little womanly fat like on my tummy, my bum, and my thighs. I did the Body for Life program during the summer so I have some muscles already (especially on my arms) and I don't want them to get any bigger, so I am not going to weight train. If I do a 1,500 calorie diet, take Tonalin CLA, and do my Gazelle for an hour every other day, will I lose a little weight? I just want to get rid of that last body fat, I'm not looking for major weight loss I know I'm healthy.-
ANSWER:
You seem a little obsessive about your body... at 5'7" and 125# you really should not be going on a diet. You are likely to lose the weight in areas you do not care to. And you are likely to lose muscle as well.If you want to lose weight in certain places (like tummy) the best thing is to do stomach crunches or somethin of the like to tone that area up... not diet. See a nutritionalist or a personal trainer for specific advice abotu certain body areas.

QUESTION:
Weight loss plan. Will it work?
I'm not huge (as in, no protruding stomach and large man boobs), but I am overweight. However, I do want to improve my health a bit and I think with the weight loss plan I've come up with might do the trick. I think 15-20 pounds will put me at perfect. Not to mention the fact that I think it will improve my overall health. So here it goes:Monday - Sunday (minus me being at work on Saturday and Sunday, so I'll probably increase the number of times I exercise those days, and stay with the same diet).
Morning: Either a bowl of Cheerios and a fruit of some sort, a yogurt, or a bowl of oatmeal. Whichever I'm in the mood for I suppose. Then work out for the 15-25 minutes of free time I have before I have to leave for work. Not sure as to what to do for a 15-25 minute workout, perhaps a quick stretch and a little Tai Chi?
Afternoon (during work): Tomato (perhaps a little turkey?) on toasted whole wheat bread. No condiment, because I don't really like condiments. Perhaps for a snack about an hour or so after lunch, maybe just a tomato, since I absolutely love tomatoes. I don't really have much time to do much at work, but if I can pull off another 25 minute deal, maybe the same routine as the morning will work?
Evening: Never had a problem eating relatively healthy dinners. Usually it's some type of meat with veggies (fish included), or some spaghetti. My appetite isn't huge. It's the company lunches and skipping of the breakfast (and of course, my lack of exercise) that I blame for the weight gain. At any rate, after dinner, 1 hour (or 2 if it's swimming, because I love swimming) of either swimming / walking / or martial art.
If I'm in the mood for a snack at night, maybe a yogurt. Not only is it healthy, but it helps the hell out of my heartburn. Any insight on this plan would be greatly appreciated. Let me know!
-
ANSWER:
sounds like a good plan and you've got some healthy meal ideas. i have to say the amount of exercise you plan might be a little excessive...especially if you don't work out now. To start you may want to do 20 minutes a day - then eventually 30...etc. But I wouldn't kill yourself to excerise 3 times a day. As it is you will see improvements since your body is not used to working out. Good luck!

obviously its possible...just dont want to go TOO drastic...-
ANSWER:
You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.Your body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at >65% of your calories, if you don't your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. for hot cereal or 2 min. for more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight.
Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.
Fruit does not promote fat loss. I worry more about the mercury in the amalgam fillings in my teeth than the mercury in tuna.
Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, triglyercerides and hormone levels are all bonus features of doing a low carb way of eating. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.
Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!

QUESTION:
Is it safe for a 14 year old to use these two diet things?
Step 1:Start with Elite Acai Blast. CNN, Rachael Ray, and many news networks have covered the health benefits of Acai. Elite Acai Blast is jam-packed with the highest quality Acai you can find on the market today, so don’t take a chance on an imitation product.
This is what Elite Acai Blast and Purity12 Cleanse does for me:
* Regulates my metabolism
* Suppresses my hunger during the day
* Boosts my energy so I could focus on my kids, job, husband, and just more “me” time
* Melts away the fat from my body by replacing my cravings for coffee and sodaNow that I don’t drink coffee or soda, my teeth are whiter. Another benefit!
The best part is that you can get a bottle of Elite Acai Blast absolutely free just like I did. It’s easy to get started. Take it in the morning and forget about it. No more counting calories or measuring portion sizes. Your fat will just melt away.
Step 2:
Purity12 Cleanse puts your weight loss into overdrive. (It’s important to use both products if you want results like mine.) While Elite Acai Blast gives you energy and suppresses you hunger, Colon Cleanse takes it one step further by:
* Removing harmful toxins in your body
* Removing walls of aged sludge in your colon
* Trimming several inches off your waistline
* Reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levelsOnce you get your free bottle of Purity12 Cleanse , take 1 pill in the morning and 1 in the evening with the Acai. That’s what I did. It’s the perfect weight-loss combination! You’ll shed flab, cleanse your system, and get amazing results.
I researched them and they seem safe...and I'd only use it for a month maximum.

QUESTION:
weight loss and exercise help?
hi, before i ask can i just request that no one judges me on my desire to lose weight. i'm 14, about 110 pounds, and 5,1. i'm probably a 'perfect' size 8, but for me i want to go further. i'm a gymnast, and do a large amount of exercise, but i have an infatuation with chocolate, sweets, pasta and cereal. i eat no meat or veg, and can't bring myself to eat differently.so, now that summer is here this is a perfect oportunity to lose more weight. i'm going to try the water diet for four days, living only on water, if anyone has any other suggestions at diets that can help me lose weight quicker then there appreciated.
i would just like to see if anyone has any tips or suggestions, or any extra exercises i can do to help me.
-
ANSWER:
Do not do an only water diet! It won't do you any good. Your body will probably think that your starving yourself and, as a result, start storing everything you eat as fat.
The best thing you can do is stick to the 3 meal plan, and try not to eat in between. Introduce vegetables into you diet and meat. If there are certain reasons you don't eat meat, like you're a vegetarian, then you need to find alternate sources of protein like eggs or fish.
Eating breakfast is very important, so make sure you do so. Drink plenty of water to help your digestion - at least 2 pints a day.
As for cutting out chocolate and sweet etc, allow yourself one treat a day which is under 200 calories. This helps stop your cravings and giving into eating alot of it.
And make sure you do plenty of exercise. personally I like to use the fitness step to a bit of music, sit ups, walking and cycling.
It's all about self discipline.
DO NOT become obsessed with dieting and your weight. It can only do you no good if you do.

QUESTION:
Low carb diet and Cycling?
I am an avid cyclist and I'm 7 pounds away from my perfect ideal weight. My boss suggested this diet which doesn't eliminate carbs..but drastically reduces them. This diet worked wonders for him and the three days I've been on it I can tell it'll do the trick! For my morning 25 mile rides I've been eating a bowl of high protein/fiber no sugar added cereal. It is not on the diet of course but I feel I need it and once I get home I follow the diet. This Saturday will be my first long distance ride on this diet. I'm spending 4-5 hours riding and I know some bowl of ceral isn't cutting it. I typically bring with me some gatorade (pure sugar goodness) and granola bars or some other quick eating carb/sugar source. Biking well comes before weight loss so if I gotta screw the diet then screw the diet. But I'd like to know if anyone out there has experience with low carb diets and bicycling. Any advice on what I should eat would be appreciated.
Oh yeah...that low carb crap lasted for about 7 hours. I don't know what I was thinking! This weekend I'm eating up and riding hard! Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Low carb diets and cycling do not go together at all. Low and no carb diets work well for certain low to low/mid activity people, but as an athlete, your dietary requirements are very different from that of an average person. If you're riding 2+ hours at a time, you're going to need your carbs, or you're going to find yourself seriously hurting in the later stages of the ride.
I'd also advise against going for a certain "target weight". If you're 7 pounds overweight (of which 5 or more lbs. at any time could be water) and performing well, I'd say stick with your current weight and not some arbitrary number. What you definitely don't want to do is starve your body for carbs and have it go into a catabolic state during a distance ride and start burning lean mass a.k.a. muscle for fuel.
In short, enjoy your Gatorade and granola and pastas and all those other carby goodies. If you truly want to drop a couple pounds, cut down your portion size and eat more often throughout the day.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION:
What are the best weight loss tips for a teenager?
I am finally going to complete this goal this year. I am currently 135.8 pounds and still growing. My healthy weight for this year is 120 pounds. I am trying my best not to eat too much, and cut back on my sugar intake. So I decided to go on a no sugar diet. but the problem is when I don't get a lot of food or sugar, I go food crazy. I eat so much fating food that, I don't even remember eating it. I know a bunch of you are going to come on here and say, "you don't need to lose weight. You are perfect the way you are. You don't need to lose weight to try to get noticed and other stuff like that." I am doing this because I want to wake up in the morning feeling confident in myself, know this is who I am. Im going to be 14 soon and starting high school. I also want to look good in the summer time. I want to go to the beach or the pool, and feel good about my body. So can you please help me lose weight?-
ANSWER:
First, start slipping healthy snacks into your food not a total change but graduley start changing your diet to a healthier one, and don't ban foods that will just make you want it more so every once in awhile a chocolate bar or piece of cake or something like that wont hurt you as long as its not a constent thing.
Second, exercise. Walking and running are the best but alot of people don't have time for that so you could use my rountine which only takes me about 10 min it really helped my abs. 10 Push-ups, 15 situps, 20 squats, then i dont know what these are called but they work out your abs amazingly laye down on the floor as in a situp position then curl your legs up while curling your torso up to meet your legs, after about 4 or 5 this should start to burn if not you are not doing them correctly, do 10 of these then if you have 5lb weights add these 2 exercises : Squats but holding one weight in each hand at your hips do 20 of these, then holding a weight in each hand and your legs even with your shoulders bring your arms over your head, do not straighten your amrs, last exercise is planks which is when you lay on your stomach with your fingers intertwined in front of you and then pushup so that you are just on your lower arms time this and stay that way for 1 minute. As you get more comfortably to this routine increase the mant times you do these exercises.
Finally just fell great, every little channge you see get excited over it, even something simple as having more energy or a tighter stomach, it doesnt sound important but it really is. And imagining yourself as that hot sexy girl by the pool looking smokin in her bikini will help too

QUESTION:
Excercise/weight loss/toning question - (Swimming & the Gym)!?
I have about 2 stone in all to lose and have just lost my first 1/2 a stone. This has initially been done without excercise and I can already see I'm a bit wobbly where I've lost some weight but not toned up and while I carry on losing I know this will continue and I may become slimmer but have horrible cellulite and not be toned in the process which I obviously dont want!So...... I am used to going to the gym Mon - Fri in the morning before work where I do 20mins cross trainer (aim to burn 200 kcals) then 200 sit ups then a cool down. Now Im going on holiday in less than 2 weeks and really want to see a difference before I go so I am going to do the gym session in the morning and then a swim session for 45 minutes after work in the evening. Obviously my diet will be perfect (Im on WeightWatchers so it is healthy). Should this make a difference within the fortnight? and am I at risk of over doing it or should this be ok for a healthy 26 yr old?
Please let me know what you think
Many thanks-
ANSWER:
It's a question of gradually raising the bar the more you do it; if you've been doing the same thing for a few months you've levelled out a while.I'm around 120kg (quite a bit of fat, sadly) and I can burn around 170-175 calories in *10* minutes by going fairly vigorously; it sounds like you're doing the cross-trainer at a somewhat more leisurely pace. Up the speed, get better results. 200 sit-ups a day does nothing except tighten your stomach, it doesn't zap belly fat (even if you don't have any) and I'd say you're pushing your abs quite hard as you're not giving them a day's break once in a while. How are your other muscle groups doing? (arms, legs, back, shoulders, chest). The swimming will be good as that's an all-round go but if you concentrate on other places when you're giving your abs a rest you can put better muscle elsewhere and then - ta da! - burn more calories. I think every lb of muscle gained burns an extra 50cal a day by *itself*.
Oh, and when you're on holiday don't pig out or relax *too* much or it'll all go to pot. If you can stay fairly active at least 1 or 2 days during it that will help - go for an evening jog/walk with someone around town or in the country, especially if you're there for sights.

QUESTION:
How do I slow down my weight loss?
I'm seventeen and 5'3. I know most people love it when they can lose weight fast, but I despise it. I used to be heavy, but lost the weight slowly over a year or so. That was doing absolutely perfect for me. I've been a very healthy vegetarian for the last couple months. I was practically one prior to that, but I would occasionally eat meat. Anyway, I also cut out eggs. That caused me to gain a couple pounds over the course of a month or two. That made me so upset, but my mother started getting eggs from a friend who has pet chickens. Well, I've been eating those eggs for about a month or so. Well, guess what? I started losing weight again. At first I thought, "Awesome, this is great. The eggs must be helping me." That's when it all got worse. I would start losing 3-5 pounds a WEEK. I went from almost 150 to now around 135 pounds! This only took a couple weeks... I know for some that would be great, but for me it's gruesome. I feel like I'm going through torture. I will wake up in the morning and my stomach will feel gawd awful. I just feel so weak right now. I'm trying to raise my calories, eat much more veggies like carrots and broccoli, eating plenty of fruit... I even eat pasta some nights to make sure I get enough carbs. What's going on? I don't want to lose weight this fast. I'm only 10-15 pounds from my goal weight. While it would be nice to reach that weight in the near future, I think it would be far nicer if it happened in either late May (at the earliest) or at least sometime in June. The way things are going though, I will be at the goal weight in just 2-3 weeks time. That's insane, and I definitely don't like it. Even my mother is really worried.Just so you know, I have hyperthyroidism. I'm currently treating it, but I suppose that has a big impact on me losing weight. Just, I don't know what else to do. I try so hard to eat enough, but obviously it's not working. As a matter of fact, adding eggs back into my diet makes me lose weight. When I didn't eat eggs, I would GAIN weight. That's odd. Please give me some advice?
Thank you everyone for your suggestions!
I'm definitely glad I asked for your help. I'm going to ask my doctor about this in a couple days, and ask if she could refer me to a nutritionist. You're also probably right about the hyperthyroidism. The medicine is probably affecting my weight. I know I shouldn't just let this go on, so acting promptly is the best thing for my health.Oh, regarding the veggies, I kind of suspected it didn't help much. They're good for me of course(especially being vegetarian), but I'm going to take your suggestions and try to add more variety to my diet. Maybe then the weight loss will slow down.
