I believe that calories are the first thing people take into action when they begin their fitness plans. Many people think that "starving" themselves is the best way to lose weight.

I think what people don’t realize is that doing this puts your body into what is called starvation mode where your metabolism slows enormously. Your body holds on to whatever food you intake. Low calorie diets also lead to binge eating. After l 00004000 ong term use of such a diet, your body loses only water and muscle, but very little fat. It is also extremely difficult to workout. I remember plenty of times when exercise felt impossible because I was too low on food. But on the other side, even more times when I felt slugish from eating too much.
I believe that you should eat enough that you don’t feel slugish when you work, but that the meals are fitting to your diet. Never fast or processed food!

Which diet is the best?

There is none. You see ads everywhere for the best diets and wonder, which one is the RIGHT one? The reality is, for the most part, they all have an element of truth. Find one and stick to it. It all depends on your body type. I will say this though. If you are a runner or extreme "cardioholic", lay off the low carb. Good carbs in pastas and breads are a solid base of energy that lasts a long time. If you are a lifter, obviously, you need protein. Lay off low cal or vegan type diets. Read lower too see what some experts say about calorie counting.
Are there any positive results to a low calorie diet?

I suppose. I have seen it work, but results are very short term and usually comes back to bite you in the butt when you can’t maintain it. At the same time, the diet does produce fast results, but at the end of the day it's always better to be smart. Eat Smart. Workout. The only true way to lose weight.

      Start a weight lifting routine. Join a gym. Possibly you can find one that has someone who specializes in weight lifting programs for beginners. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism as well as improve posture and appearance overall. Even if you can't get to the gym you can work out at home using things around the house. Invest in a good weight training book. The Dummies series actually has a good one.

      In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish. Particularly if you choose a vegetarian lifestyle include natural peanut butter, hummus, dried fruit and nuts. Pay close attention to getting the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.

      Make your portion sizes smaller. Use a smaller plate - in our society we have become accustomed to thinking that we need a large plate of food at every meal, and we don't. About quarter of your plate of food should be protein and at least half of it should be veggies.

      Learn to count calories. At your current weight and activity level, you may possibly need about 2000 calories or more to maintain your current weight. So you will lose weight at a reasonable and healthy rate if you cut back to about 1600 or 1700 calories a day.

      Eat small amounts frequently, rather than three large meals. Never skip breakfast. Include some protein in your breakfast. It will help get you through the day.

      Drink plenty of water, at least 8 big glasses of water a day, and more if it is very hot, if you sweat a lot, or if you are exercising intensely, and eliminate fruit juices. Fruit juices have too many calories, so get your vitamins from fresh fruit, not the juice. You will begin to see changes in your body.

      Vary your routines. Don't eat the same number of calories every day (vary your calories from 1400 a day to 1900 or 2000 some days), eat a variety of foods, and do different kinds and amounts of exercise.       Start making your own meals. Baked chicken and steamed fish are easy and not messy to make. Also trow some veggies in a pan with 2 cups of water and boil them then just let me brown up in the pan a bit and you can also add a little lemon juice or pepper to eat!
      Try to maybe eat 2 times a day. Around 10am and 5pm.
      Stick to fruits for stacks! Veggies get boring!
      And have some fruit yogurt around too.
      Dried cranberries are Awsome too.
      Walk about an hour a day.
      It's been about 1 month for me and I dropped 5 pounds. It takes a while but it's healthy and long term!

      Water will fill you up, but just like anything else, without exercise you won't be seeing much results. You know what I'm doing to loose my gut? I'm just lifting weights (burning calories) but while doing so, eating healthy. Like, eat a salad before a main course or something, because of the fiber in it you'll feel alot more full. That's the key to loosing weight though, just eat as healthy as you can and get plenty of exercise. But, never skip any meals, like breakfest. If you only eat one meal a day and just skip everything else, your body will store the fat for energy so it will be harder. Just eat healthy, that's my only advice.       I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

      Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

      First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

      This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

      However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full.       Diet and exercise. I have also spent so much money on pills, doctors, colon cleansing, lymphnode drainage. Not because I am so over weight but because I hit a plateau. See a nutritionist, once. Tell them you want a healthy eating plan that is easy to maintain. Make sure the foods work together so you don't have to buy such a variety of groceries. Also make sure you want just a plan so they don't suck your cash up. I never enjoyed exercise videos but abs of steel is so amazing. I used it at my thinnest times. Your kids can play in the living room while you are on your back or standing and each exercise is only fifteen minutes. If you have time or preferrably, a local gym with child care, get there and get to running. Cardio is a major key.

      I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

      Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

      First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

      This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

      However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace.com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

      Seriously, though, the whole electroshock thing is a total scam. There's really no such thing as "targeted weight loss" unless you undergo surgery, which any physician will tell you is again not a substitute for regular exercise and a healthy diet. Forget "quick".. get-rich-quick and get-thin-quick schemes always fall through and the one who tries them winds up paying more than they ever dreamed.

      As a rule of thumb Im 5 ft 5 I drop a dress size every 10lbs or so. I find people comment when youve lost two dress sizes.

      Also its very hard to see your body changing so it is absolutely vital you measure your waist, chest etc measurements say every two weeks, then you know its changing. Keep a diary.

      Exercise is the best way to make sure you lose as much of the weight from fat. That makes you look even better for every pound lost.

      Addnl: Dont think it makes any difference if youre f or m, my guess to go from 36 in waist to a 34 in is 10lbs or so and I only really notice when my husband has put on a stone or so or loses it.

      Circuit training is where you go from exercise to exercise with no rest in between. It is used for fat loss because your heart rate is elevated throughout because of the zero rest periods. Think of it as cardio but with weights.

      While it will help fat loss it is nowhere near as important as a good diet for fat loss. A good diet will have you burning body fat 23 hours a day. A good workout only last an hour or so.

      Diet is always 80% of the puzzle.

      Most important thing you can do is this:

      1-eat every 2-3 hours (1-200 cal)--6 meals a day--this speeds up your metabolism and keeps it moving. If you don't do this, your metabolism shuts down and stores fat.

      2-eat only protein and vegetables.......get your fiber from nuts. Do NOT have any fruit-it will take you out of ketosis (highest state of fat burning).....Have NO bread, pasta, carbs.......again, your only carbs should be from nuts and veggies.

      3--limit your dairy. Only cottage cheese and goats milk.

      4--drink a minimum of 8 8 oz. glasses of water a day

      5--limit caffeine--caffeine destabilized your blood sugars and causes you to eat.

      6-- get to sleep no later than 10pm....your body rebuild itself between the hours of 10pm-6am........sleeping 11-7 isn't the same.

      7--don't eat after a certain time of day.......if you are hundry, have herbal tea or something light-1oo calories max.

      8--cook in olive oil and make sure you don't over do on fats.

      9--move your body-walk, exercise......do a minimum of 30 min. every day.

      10--stay away from stress......stress releases a chemical that makes your body store fat.

      My doctor taught me all of these things and I've lost 30 pounds in 2 months.

      It really depends on the person...I guess I'll just answer based on my own experience. I used to have a lot of visible belly fat (it was really gross...). This summer, I dieted and exercised and within the first 2-3 weeks, I lost around 6-8 lbs. I saw a huge difference in my body. Most of the fat around my stomach was gone, and now, I pretty much have a flat stomach except for bit of fat that I'm still working on to get off.

      The average person, if on a *healthy* diet (1000-1200 calories, 15 minutes of cardio), will lose about 2 lbs per week. Losing any more than 2 lbs per week is dangerous. I lost around 3-4 lbs in the first week, and this is because I went on a 700 calorie diet. I do not recommend this because now, I feel moody all the time and feel dizzy/light-headed. Plus, the weight stops coming off after a few weeks. So moral of the story? Don't go below 1000 calories on a diet. (I'm currently working towards a higher calorie consumption.)
