How many times have you said to yourself "I just can't lose those last 10 pounds"?
If losing those last 10 pounds is your passion, then you will appreciate the benefits of L-Carnitine supplementation!
It's no doubt that weight loss and supplements are controversial issues in the fitness industry. The basis for true weight loss is proper eating and regular exercise.
Supplements are beneficial for an added kick to super charge your weight-loss program. While supplements do serve their place in a fitness program, don't rely on them as the bulk of your regimen, they are a tool.
Of the many fat-loss supplements bombarding the fitness and weight-loss industry, L-Carnitine is one that I always found useful when trying to drop extra pounds. It can help mobilize fat so it can be burned more efficiently when your rotate your calories on the lower end.
L-Carnitine is an amino acid and may aid in fat-loss endeavors. Its main function is to transfer long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria where they can be used to produce energy and burn fat. L-Carnitine can also aid in preventing fatty build up in the liver and heart.
Other benefits of the wonderful supplement are reducing triglyceride levels and improving muscular strength. L-Carnitine can also help lessen the nervousness and irritability associated with low carbohydrate eating plans.
Additional advantages are suppressed appetite, increased energy, and reduced muscle fatigue. L-Carnitine can also protect against liver disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.
Your body can make L-Carnitine if you receive proper amounts of the amino acids lysine and methionine. You also need suitable amounts of vitamin B and C, as well as iron. This can also be received through nutrition, from such foods as animal protein.
Those who exercise a great deal use a lot of L-Carnitine. Therefore, it needs to be replenished to prevent a deficiency. If you are not receiving enough of these vitamins, minerals, amino's through your diet you could possibly have an L-Carnitine deficiency, making those last few pounds stubborn to remove.
A lack of L-Carnitine can result in muscular weakness and low energy levels, as well as weight gain, and cramps. Long-term deficiencies can lead to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and Alzheimer's.
Vegetarians are more likely to have an inadequate amount of L-Carnitine due to the lack of animal protein in their nutrition. Therefore, L-Carnitine is an excellent supplement for vegetarians.
Recommended Dosage
Liquid L-Carnitine is an easy way to receive the recommended dosage of L-Carnitine quickly. Supplement with 3 to 5 grams of L-Carnitine 20 to 30 minutes before cardio. Use L-Carnitine consistently for 6 weeks and then take 4 weeks off of L-Carnitine.
This product is absolutely safe. However, if you have a weak stomach, take it with a meal.
Since L-Carnitine helps to release fat more efficiently during cardio, provided your carbohydrates are not in excess, it is important that you eat foods of quality and exercise consistently.
These factors are what make the fat burning process possible. L-Carnitine is the spark plug to get the fire burning!

QUESTION:
what's the truth behind l-carnitine for weight loss?
because someone has been insisting on me to take the pills with l-carnitine, green tea extract and ampalaya for weight loss.. how true is their claim?-
ANSWER:
with out getting too technical carnitine helps the transport of lipids (fats) through the cell membrane of the muscle cell where they can be metabolized and converted to ATP.you want to use acetyl-l-carnitine also because it has a much higher bioavailability but it does cost more. IMO this stuff is best used during cutting cycles when reducing the body fat is the main concern. i would take 1 gram of alc before and after exercise, 2 grams if using l-carnitine.

QUESTION:
Products to boost metabolism, heighten energy and assist weight loss + L-carnitine?
I have researched proven supplements and remember from my previous fitness days that L-Carnitine was a supplement that I was told to look out for. I now want to find a product (shake or pills) that will boost my metabolism, give me lots of energy, help in my weight loss and contains L-Carnitine.
I am a teacher and work ridiculous hours, so need the energy boost now I have joined a gym again. I have an extremely low metabolic rate and I need to decrease my body fat % quickly, as was told that it is currently 5% above the top suitable % for my age and height.Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
-
ANSWER:
A higher metabolism is associated with a shorter life expectancy. If your metabolism is low because of yo-yo dieting, that may be a blessing in disguise.I tried exercise, but despite an hour a day of aerobic exercise 5 times a week, I became a very fit fat person without losing a pound. My appetite followed my activity level. I studied five NIH grant funded nutritionists who are not associated with industry funding. They all recommended a pure plant based diet and it worked for me. lost 80 pounds and have kept it off.
The best writer on this topic is Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I verified his research and found him to be exceptional. The consensus reality in Western culture about weight and dieting is just plain wrong.
Don't try to boost your metabolism, just eat right and avoid processed foods. Whole plant based foods is the answer.

QUESTION:
Is L-carnitine helpfull for weight loss?
Does L-carnitine really help weight loss?
How much should I consume it per day?-
ANSWER:
Interest in the potential of L-carnitine supplementation to improve athletic performance is related to its important roles in energy metabolism, NOT REALLY WEIGHT LOSS. A number of small, uncontrolled studies have reported that either acute (dose given one hour before exercise bout) or short-term (two to three weeks) L-carnitine supplementation (2 to 4 grams/day) was associated with increases in maximal oxygen uptake and decreases in plasma lactate (82-85). Most studies to date have shown no effect of L-carnitine supplementation on physical performance (86). However, conclusions that can be drawn from this research are limited due to small numbers of participants, short duration of supplementation, and lack of appropriate control groups in most studies. Several studies have shown that carnitine supplementation increases plasma carnitine levels (87-91), but studies have failed to demonstrate that carnitine supplementation increases levels of carnitine within skeletal muscle, the site of greater than 95% of the body's total carnitine (92). Thus, while carnitine supplementation in theory might work, the available data suggest that carnitine supplementation does not affect athletic performance in healthy individuals.

QUESTION:
Weight-loss Supplements CLA and L-Carnitine(SP?)?
Okay, so I have just had two beautiful girls within two years of each-other. I am actually going to start weaning my youngest, and I was wonder about Supplements. I know weight-loss doesn't happen over night and I have to diet and exercise. I have actually created a profile under the Discovery Health National Body Challenge. They actually came up with a good diet and exercise regime for me. I am actually 165 lbs and 5'6. My goal is to weigh 130-135 lbs. I was wonder if adding CLA and L-Carnitine to my diet will help aid with the weight loss. I have a stomach, and I would really like a nice flat stomach for my birthday Nov. 30. I was wondering if the 1200 calorie diet, the exercising 5 times a week, and supplements will help me get to my goals.-
ANSWER:
Ever since 2007, there has been an increase in use of CLA as a fat burner. This is due to the release of a meta-analysis (basically a review of several scientific studies) published in the May 2007 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition which concluded that 3.2g/d of CLA can induce moderate weight loss in humans. CLA is an attractive weight loss supplement and many people use conjugated linoleic acid as part of a fat loss supplement stack (i.e. a group of compounds and herbs taken together to maximize effects) because unlike many other weight loss supplements it is not a stimulant and you don't suffer the nasty side effects of getting the jitters, increased heart rate, or worse - increased blood pressure. This is especially as there are not many effective options for non-stimulant fat burners on the market.

QUESTION:
Is L-Carnitine effective in weight loss?-
ANSWER:
I tried taking L-Carnitine a long time ago during a fat-burning phase. To be honest, I didn't notice anything substantially different when taking it, and I don't recall it having a huge impact on my fat loss. From what I understand, there is no clinical research that demonstrates that L-Carntine helps weight loss. I would do some research on my own before trying it.

QUESTION:
Is L-Carnitine transforming your fat into muscles? Or into energy resulting in weight loss ?-
ANSWER:
fat cells are adipocytes and muscle cells are myocytes, they can not be converted from one to the other. they are completely different cell structures.L-Carnitine does help to metabolize fatty acids but you really want to use Acetyl-L-Carnitine it is much more effective.

QUESTION:
Is L-Carnitine worth taking, or should I just stick to a healthy diet without supplements?
I have read that L-Carnitine can speed up weight loss?Has anyone taken it? If so, what were the results??
-
ANSWER:
The way it naturally occurs L-Carnithine helps your muscles repair themselves after a strenuous work out. This repair is the source of muscle growth and an elevated resting metabolism. So in small doses it can help you burn calories faster. I have noticed a small difference in body fat, body composition but not necessarily weight loss. Excessive amounts of this or any vitamin will only result in more expensive contents in your septic tank and may overstress your kidneys, so . . . if a little is good, more is NOT better.

QUESTION:
what will i have to do to loss weight after 3months of running and walking but no results yet?
i need to loss at least 10lbs. i'm 37yrs, 5ft. 130lbs i have been contanstly exercising ( running, race walking ) everyday for 3 months now. i have also lessen my portions in my meals and cut off rice. I have fruits for lunch. i'm taking l-carnitine ( 500mg ) and green tea tablets to help my weight loss but i still haven;t lost any weight. my tummy is still bulky. i haven't seen any difference.pls help me, i'm desperate. i only want to feel good even if i do not loss the entire goal, at least this time i should have at least seen or felt a slight changes in my efforts of exercising and healthy eating.-
ANSWER:
1) See your doctor. You sound like you may have an eating disorder. You're fixated on a number and a "bulky tummy" and you say you're "desperate."2) Muscle weighs more than fat. When you consult with your doctor and lose weight in a healthy manner you don't use a scale. They measure your body fat. Body fat is all that really matters.
3) You lost that 10 pounds a long time ago and don't realize it. It was replaced by what is known as lean muscle.

QUESTION:
Are L-carnitine supplements safe to use?
I'm looking for a faster way to lose weight and L-carnitine is a good option. I work out everyday and I just want to get fit faster. Are there any risks in taking L-carnitine as a weight-loss method?-
ANSWER:
Carnitine is actually an essential nutrient found in the body that helps in transporting fat into your cell mitochondria where it is transformed into energy which can be used up by your body. L-carnitine can help increase burning of fat in your body, increasing your energy level, promoting a healthy heart, a healthy circulation and a healthy liver. Carnitine exists in three forms: L-carnitine for heart and cardiovascular conditions, acetyl-L-carnitine, which is used for treating Alzheimer's disease and mental problems, and propionyl-L-carnitine which is also used for improving heart conditions.L-carnitine is widely used as a natural method for weight loss since it enables burning of fat at much higher speeds. It can also decrease your cravings, increase your energy during exercise and increase your metabolic rate. In the same way, carnitine is used to promote heart health and in treating and managing angina, arrhythmias and other heart ailments. It is also used by athletes to promote further sports endurance.
Taking normal levels of carnitine does not lead you to experience unpleasant side effects. However, you may be able to experience having too much energy when taking them, and if you take them later during the day, you might have difficulties falling asleep. These side effects are not really reason for concern in many people, as they are mostly mild to moderate, and easy to deal with.
Some reported L-carnitine side effects include vomiting, nausea, headache, diarrhea, stuffy nose, restlessness and sleeping difficulty. Some serious side effects may include fast heartbeat rates, increase in your blood pressure and fever.
However, if you have low or border-line thyroid levels, you should not take L-carnitine as it may impair the action of your thyroid hormone. Also, if you are on dialysis, taking L-carnitine (and other supplements, in general) is highly discouraged.
As a dietary supplement for weight loss, the only danger that L-carnitine poses is the risk for anorexia nervosa (an eating disorder marked by starvation). Because L-carnitine can decrease your appetite, this desired effect can worsen and you can end up starving yourself due to physiological reasons or in hopes of losing more and more weight.
Well, based on the facts presented above, the advantages of using the supplement go far beyond potential risks. It is very safe to take as long as you take it in the prescribed dosage. L-carnitine side effects can only prove harmful to you if you do not use it as advised.

QUESTION:
What is the 'chai' diet? Is chai tea good for weight loss?
I have heard that chai tea is good for weight loss, is it? My friend is on the Chai diet, where she drinks chai tea and mixes it with l carnitine. Would this be good for you?-
ANSWER:
This sounds to me like a gimmick and I'd be cautious about it.While tea is quite healthy, and the spices used in chai (masala chai) or spiced tea blends are also quite healthy, there is no solid scientific evidence that tea helps weight loss. The only way to lose weight in a healthy way is to have a healthy, diverse diet, and get regular exercise.
I also recommend against nutritional supplements like carnitine. A lot of supplements have not been proven to help in any way, and some can actually be damaging. Naturally, carnitine is found in a wide variety of foods. It is not naturally found in tea. It's always best to obtain essential nutrients from natural sources, rather than taking them as supplements, as supplements often aren't absorbed properly, and sometimes they can send too much of one substance to your body, which can throw your body out of balance. I've attached a page to a list of natural sources of carnitine.

QUESTION:
Is L-Carnitine effective?
I'm looking to help speed up my metabolism and weight loss. Is L-carnitine safe to take? How much should I take daily? Also, will make me feel jittery or nauseous on an empty stomach?I'm currently taking CLA, Omega 3/6, Super Complex Vitamin B, and Green Tea Extract.
-
ANSWER:
"Although L-carnitine has been marketed as a weight loss supplement, there is no scientific evidence to show that it improves weight loss, however some studies show that oral carnitine reduces fat mass, increases muscle mass, and reduces fatigue. All of these effects may contribute to weight loss." http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/carnitine-l-000291.htm
I would question the effectiveness of L carnitine, but in theory supplementing it sounds good.

ANSWER:
Begin transitioning to a diet rich in raw fruits and vegetables with very few cooked or processed foods to help keep your digestive system free of mucoid plaque. Regular and easy elimination will be the rule, toxins will not build up and foods will be fully digested and utilized. This optimum nutrition allows rejuvenation and peak vitality. Of course it was a process of years or decades to get the body so full of plaque and toxins, so it will be a process, although faster, to detoxify and get your body pure and back to its highest possible state of health.

Weight loss after antidepressants?
After taking antidepressants for a year I gained so much weight. Do you know anything about the effectiveness of chromium picolinate and L-Carnitine to loose weight? Is it safe to combine those supplements with antidepressants?-
ANSWER:
If you are still taking the antidepressants do not even consider taking these sort of "supplements" to help weight loss. Depending on what antidepressant you are on you could end up with problems. I have been there (also piled on loads of weight!) and I found the thing which really helped me shift the weight was the GI Diet, I used the version by Rick Gallop but there are other books out there. Its easy to use and very effective. In the last year I have lost over 80lbs. I still have a long way to go but I am confident I will get there.

Is this weight-loss supplement safe?
I'm thinking of trying this weight-loss supplement sold at my local health store. It has 500mg of acetyl-l-carnitine in a capsule form. Is this weight-loss supplement safe and does it work?-
ANSWER:
I wouldn't use any weight loss supplements. You can lose weight and not regain, after you were to stop any pill that may or may not be really healthy, by adapting to proper weight loss lifestyle changes. If your goal is to lose some weight quickly, try eliminating water weight, drink lots of water and get it moving out of your body instead of conserving it.
Review your proper kcals / energy needs ratio vs. exercise, adjust for healthy weight loss of 1-2 lbs/wk.

QUESTION:
Pounds away liquid weight loss program?
Ok today, I brought a pounds away with hoodia, mangosteen, green tea, cha de bugre, and l-carnitine drink. Has anyone actually used this product and did it actually work.-
ANSWER:
Pounds away liquid:Hoodia Gordonii 300 mg
L Carnitine 250 mg
Green Tea Extract 100 mg
Cha De Bugre 100 mg
Guarana 15 mgIn my opinion there is not enough of any one ingredient to be that effective. There are three main ingredients in that pill, hoodia, green tea and cha de bugre. Hoodia is an appetite suppressant the other two are metabolism boosters. I suggest getting two separate supplements, one appetite and one for metabolism.
For Hoodia to work you need 750 to 1000 mg. per pill that is certified to be genuine. They usually don't put enough Hoodia in these big chain store brands to do much of anything. You will have the best chance of hoodia suppressing your appetite if you get a strong pure hoodia that is certified to be genuine. I always recommend Totalink's unbiased Hoodia comparison at http://hoodiagordonii.totalink.com/hoodia_comparison.html in the "Confidence" column it will indicate if the brand is "Certified". These Hoodia brands have the credentials to back up their product. Also in that column it will indicate if the brand is "Returnable". These Hoodia brands allow you to return opened bottles and get your money back. This indicates to me that the company has confidence that it works.
As for Cha de Bugre and Green Tea, you can find a good comparison at http://hoodiagordonii.totalink.com/cha_de_bugre.html
Hope this helps, if you want to know more about Hoodia I have written a lot of articles on it. Just search Yahoo or Google under my name “Andrew Aitaken” to find them.
Remember, you should always consult your physician before taking any diet pill or weight loss supplement.

I am 5'7 and weigh 165 Pounds, and my goal is to lose 10 more pounds. I was 189 Pounds in March of this year and have lost 22 pounds since I have been working out. I work out 5 times a week with a break on Saturday and Sunday, each workout lasts for 1 and a half hour, I do cardio before and after each workout and on Sundays, and of course I have a balanced diet.I want to see if I could boost my weight loss and muscle gain by including weight loss pills, is it a good idea? if yes, can you help me choose any among these ones, and what else should I do in order too lose belly fat. Thank youAtro-Phex 98 capsules

ANSWER:
Weight loss pills are the worst way to go. Best bet is to switch up routine and cup back on unhealthy foods.
Weightloss pills only work if you work out and eat healthy to begin with. . . And if your doing that already then it defeats the purpouse of the weight loss pill. . . Its all a matter of the mind =)

QUESTION:
What are the best non-stimulant supplements for weight loss?
A question for all you experienced weight loss/weight lifting/athletic people:What are the best non-stimulant supplements for weight loss? I'm not talking diet pills - I'm talking vits and minerals like L-Carnitine, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, etc... natural stuff that helps move fat without making your heart pitter-patter faster than a race car.
Few stats: I'm female, 5'1", 185 pounds looking to lose approx 60 total - about 3 pounds per week... primarily belly fat, will be eating very healthy and riding a bike for 90 minutes each day.
I appreciate any helpful feedback!

Along with calcium and Vitamin D, and a Daily multi-vitamin. I also take phentermine. The diet consist if these med and also protein bars ,veggies and meat. And of course exercise. I was wondering is it good to be taking all these amino acids since your body produces some of them ?and if any of these meds have a side effect of hair loss?
Actually it's only about 5 pills a day each time period amino acids are in one capsule. So it's not that bad I. I do drink a protein shake or eat a protein bar twice a day. One for breakfast and one with a lunch of veggies-
ANSWER:
that is quite a few pills to take for a day. Have you thought of just drinking a protein shake. One shake has 4 grams of the essential bcaa (brainched chain amino acid), plus take your multi-vitamin.As far as the hair loss, I have never heard of this.

QUESTION:
Diet plan help? with weight loss pills?
Will i gain weight doing this or loose weight?I weigh 134 pounds and i'm 5'4. I started taking Lipo 6 black, L-carnitine, and CLA.
Heres my diet plan...
When I wake up I take 3 Lipo 6 Black pills like the bottle says.
Then I wait a half hour and have 2 scoops of protein in a shake and I put 2 bananas in the shake. The brand is Syntha-6. Each scoop has 200 calories and 6 grams of fat and 22 grams of protein. So a total of 400 calories plus the 2 bananas for breakfast. While i have that i take 2 CLA pills, that are said to eat with a meal.I take 3 more lipo 6 black pills
Before lacrosse practice i eat a nature valley granola bar. those hard ones haha. and 2 more cla pills
Then i have lacrosse for 2 hours. We usually run more than a mile and practice.
After that i have the protein shake again and 2 bananas.
then after that i have 2 l-carnitine pills and 2 more before bed.
This is probably confusing if your not familiar with the pills!
CLA- body composition and toning formula
Lipo 6 black- fat destroyer..
L-carnitine- promotes energy and fat metabolism. Will i gain weight doing this? what should i adjust? i want to loose weight fast.

QUESTION:
What is the value of carnitine and l-carnitine?
Some boast of this as a weight-loss supplement; and others as something essential to all who go vegan or vegetarian. How do the two types of carnitine differ?
Do you recommend one producer over another, and why?
When I first wrote this question, I considered saying, "Tell me as if I were a fifth grader."I've received one good albeit highly technical answer from which I can glean that carnitine is used in the energy production process . . . I think. What are the practical advantages of carnitine? What difference does it make in day to day functioining, and perhaps in athletic performance?

Phil
-
ANSWER:
Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound biosynthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine.[1] In living cells, it is required for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria during the breakdown of lipids (or fats) for the generation of metabolic energy. It is often sold as a nutritional supplement. Carnitine was originally found as a growth factor for mealworms and labeled vitamin Bt. Carnitine exists in two stereoisomers: its biologically active form is L-carnitine, while its enantiomer, D-carnitine, is biologically inactive.[2]Carnitine transports long-chain acyl groups from fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix, so that they can be broken down through β-oxidation to acetate to obtain usable energy via the citric acid cycle

ANSWER:
Wow! That was very complex! Here is some dietary info that is helpful as well. Good Luck!"Diet. Treatment of obesity centers on developing general healthy dietary guidelines, in addition to making some key adjustments in your relationship with food.
Dietary tips for combating obesity:
* Eat more fiber. Fiber gives you a satiated feeling, helping you to curb food cravings. It also keeps your colon healthy, and aids in proper digestion. Research has shown that obesity puts you at higher risk for colorectal cancer, primarily due to a low-fiber, high-calorie, processed food diet. Incorporate ground flax seed in smoothies, soups, and favorite cereals to increase your fiber intake.
* Skip the low-fat food products. Most of the low-fat, processed foods in grocery stores are typically high-carb foods that are loaded with sugar, salt, artificial sweeteners, and synthetic fat substitutes. Many of these ingredients cause weight gain, rather than reduce it. Read more about food ingredients.
* Add virgin coconut oil to your diet. The natural saturated fat in virgin coconut oil can help stabilize blood sugar levels, facilitate proper thyroid function, and aid in weight loss.
* Eat more vegetables and fruits. Not only are they a good source of fiber, but they contain many naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, and amino acids necessary for maintaining optimal health and weight. Watch out for fruit juices, they often contain added sugars that can increase your calorie intake dramatically. Opt for water, or diluted fruit juice (three quarters water and one quarter juice).
* Don’t skip breakfast. Fasting activates the starvation response, slowing your metabolism and increasing the chances that excess fat will be stored to fuel your nutrient-depleted body. Studies now show that women who eat cereal for breakfast maintained their weight better than those who skipped breakfast. The plus of whole grain cereal is that it is a low-calorie, fiber-rich food.3 Obese people tend to lack necessary fiber in their diets.
* Eat frequent meals. Eating five to six small meals throughout the day helps to speed up your metabolism. On the other hand, eating large meals only once or twice a day will actually slow down your metabolism."

QUESTION:
Is there any reason why parents would feed their 6 month old, Suddenly Slim, Body FX, a weight control bev mix
I recently babysat a 6 month old baby. His parents gave me a product called Suddenly Slim Body FX The label said it is "The perfect Meal Replacement". It is a weight control Beverage Mix. The father said that the pediatrician said it was ok, but I have my doubts. This is what they are giving him instead of formula. This was the first time I met these people. The baby also has the worse diaper rash I have ever seen. I think it is a yeast infection, but I am wondering if the stuff they feed him is causing it.
Here is a partial list of some ingredients from the company's website.
Suddenly Slim is a weight loss program of diet pills and meal replacement shakes. Body FX. Each contain a large number of herbal ingredients which are common in diet pills, including: garcinia campogia, chromium picolinate, green tea, kola nut, hydroxycitric acid, chitin, dandelion root, cayenne, L-carnitine and many others
Should a 6 month old be consuming all that stuff?
-
ANSWER:
Holy hell no. A baby should definitely not have green tea and kola nut and cayenne... I have no idea what the rest of that stuff is but it is not what a new baby should be eating. If you're a teenager, tell to your mom and/or dad about this. Something like this may deserve a call to child protective services.

QUESTION:
Am I losing weight too fast?
Ive dropped 95 lbs in 7 months by working out like a fiend and keeping myself to a daily limit of 1700 calories. I do cheat now and then but otherwise i have steadily lost substancial amounts of weight the entire time. As far as supplementation goes I have a protein shake following my workouts and a casein shake before I go to bed. I also take 500 mg of l-carnitine daily. Is it possible that I may be losing too much weight, too fast? A friend of mine told me how he knew a girl that dropped 100 lbs in a year and had a stroke related to the rapid weight loss. Is there any validity to this? Im going to keep doing what im doing regardless but I was just curious. Thanks in advance.-

QUESTION:
What more can I do to lose weight?
I'm not proud of it but I'm 300 lbs and 5'4". I've been doing P90x for over a month now and have cut down on all food intake and cut out junk food. I also stopped drinking soda and have a regular intake of about a gallon of water a day. After watching my calories for a week and figuring out I was only consuming roughly 500-600 calories a day I've upped my intake to about 1300 (slowly b/c I basically had to force myself to eat). I'm also taking L-Carnitine and CLA on a daily basis. I have P.C.O.S. which makes losing weight very difficult. Does anyone have any tips on what else I can be doing to move the weight loss along?
Oh and to add... Before I was doing P90x I was walking over 2 miles a day and doing several different Jillian Michaels DVDs (I didn't just jump into P90x). I'm still upping my calorie intake weekly, I tried taking in the correct amount and made myself very sick. And I didnt have a personal trainer but even with her I never saw any results.-
ANSWER:
OK, first of all, have you consulted your doctor? the first conclusion I can draw is that you are seriously under eating. If you eat too little then your body goes into starvation mode and your weight loss will stall. at 300lbs and 5'4 you need around 2500 calories per day to maintain your weight, so 2000 a day will give you a weight loss consistently. My guess it that you want to lose your weight quickly, but ask anywhere and a rapid weight loss is always followed by a rapid weight gain.
Instead of trying to make such a dramatic change, small incremental changes will give you a better chance of getting the lbs off and keeping them off.
A weight loss of 1.5lbs per week will mean that you could lose 15lbs by christmas which would be a great way to see out this year and see in the next.
Remember, your weight did not go on overnight and it wont come off the same way, go steady, eat a balanced diet, plan meals ahead and you will succeed.
Good luck

QUESTION:
Why am i not losing much weight?
I am a teenager, i am 1.85m and 110 kg. I started 2 weeks ago at 113kg now u may think why am i complaining but i want to lose 50kg anytime before summer. I'm very desperate to lose that amount but i'm annoyed because i've only lost 5kg and i've been eating mainly fruits, vegies and a bit of protein food every day and i've been going to the gym for nearly 2 hours 5 days a week doing hardcore cardio for 1 hour and then weight lifting the other hour. I am also taking some CLA and L carnitine, now i am doing an intense workout and i dont want to lose only 6kg a month for so much work.
Is there anyone here kind enough to please give me a proper weight loss programme because i've just been doing bicycle and weight lifting.
only lost 3kg srry-
ANSWER:
Fruit doesn't promote fat loss. You may not be eating enough calories. Make sure you are getting sufficient protein & fat. The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food. You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)
Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.
The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone).
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" - have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese - pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad - steaks - a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

QUESTION:
Can lip gloss really help you lose weight?
This FUZE Slenderize Guilt Free Lip Gloss made by Too Faced promises to help aid in weight loss because it has these active ingredients:-Chromium: A micronutrient known to improve the amount of energy you get from food.
-L-Carnitine: An amino acid which boosts energy.
-Super Citrimax: Helps maintain a normal appetite and increase energy in healthy individuals and helps support a healthy metabolism.Do you really think this is true and it would actually work?
Here's what lip gloss i'm talking about:
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P202628#moreInfo
-
ANSWER:
I strongly doubt it. There are products on the market that have bogus claims of "weight loss" but have little if any scientific evidence to back up their claims.
I cannot see how a lip gloss, of all things, would help someone lose weight.L-Carnitine and Chromium have minimal effect and their is no scientific evidence that it helps with weight loss. See my source list below for more information. From the brief online research I did on Citrimax (a.k.a. Hydroxycitric Acid Garcinia cambogia, HC) the same appears true--minimal if any scientifically proven effects on weight loss.
I lost weight by watching what I ate and doing aerobic exercise and strength training.
