      The best method to ease into running is the run walk method. Your body should adjust to running more easily using this method. The time you spend running and the time you spend walking depends again on your fitness level. If you need to walk longer or are able to run more, just do it. You run for 30-60 seconds, depending , you walk for 30 seconds. You do this for a week. The next week you increment you run by 10 seconds, but keep the walk to 30 seconds. As the weeks progress you should be able to gain substantial increase you capacity of running. The ideal for the run walk method is to get up to 10 minutes of running and 1 minute of walking, but it all depends on how you feel. Once you are able to keep a pace of 10-1 for 30 minutes you can start to increase the 10 minute run by 10-20% every week.

      The pace you should be in is a Zone 1 pace. Zones are calculated by the hearth rate that is attained with physical activity. Zone 1 pace is (220 - your age) X 60 or 70% - I'm 36 , (220bpm - 36) X 70% = 130 bpm. This is a foundation building pace. This pace is used on long runs because it enables your body to manage lactic acid. A friendly fuel when absorbed properly lactic acid becomes running enemy when it is out of control. The longer you can run at this pace, the more your body will improve his capability to absorb the acid. This is endurance building, and it is the first step to having a great run.

      If you need to do more sports during the week, cross training should be your choice. Gym work to strengthen the abs is a plus. Cycling or spinning also gets your heart going without the impact on your knees.

      If you are able to run for 30 minutes, my suggestion to you is to get out there and find a nice friendly 5k. This is a celebration of life , a celebration of your new found passion: Running. Turkey trot your way to the end.

      Intermediate:

      You've achieved your first goal and that first 5k is now behind you. You've adapted your body to running and now can run 3 times a week for 30 minutes each time and can even push this a bit further.

      You now are able to move to the next level. First thing to do is add another running day to your week. This will help you put on the miles and will help you adjust even more to a runner's regiment. Second thing to do is start mixing up your running workouts. 1 slow long run (zone 1), 2 normal half hour runs (zone 1 maximized- bottom zone 2), and 1 run that is totally different from the other types of runs that your body is accustomed to do. My suggestion is either Hill running or intervals.

      Hill running is simple: Find a hill - run it to the top (if you can get up there fine - if not - stop where you’re about to collapse) - once up there - walk back down. Do this 10 times and make sure you keep a pace that you can accomplish it 10 times. If you cannot run it - walk up the hill. This will put pressure on your big leg muscles and should bring your body close to lactic acid threshold, walking back down will help your body manage that load and will push it farther and farther as the workouts progress.

      Interval: Warm up with a 15 minute turkey trot. Once you are warmed up - bolt it for 100 meters - as fast as you can without collapsing (85% of your max speed) - just before blowing up - walk for 1 minute. Repeat this for at least 1000 meters (10 X 100 meters). If your body is not too broken, turkey trot your way back home for another 15 minutes ... this is great for pushing your lactic acid threshold even farther.

      The point of pushing your body this way is to enable you to start picking up speed and finding a way to sustain it. Also - this is a good thing for your running body as it is called upon to adjust and find new ways of coping. Doing the same thing week after week can cause your body to adapt and might hinder your progression.

      The goal you might have with these exercises is to improve you PR for your 5K or 10K time, enabling you to get faster and faster. Being faster and enabling your body to cope with it will help you out on your long slow runs. Your lactic acid overload might not be as great as it was before and your threshold of pain and endurance will be heightened.

      Once you mastered these techniques and can now run for an hour or more on your slow long runs, a 10K or a half marathon is well within your reach.

      Experts:

      Elite runners are a breed on their own. They usually have a running stride that looks like a work of art and also have a cardio that can sustain 15-20 km/hour run tempo. Not everybody can achieve this type of running pace and keep it for 2 hours or more.

      There are unnatural ways of burning fat by burning thermogenics, which I don't recommend even as a GNC representative because they can mess with your hormones and thyroid.

      The best way to make your body utilize fat and burn them is to limit your carb intake while increasing your lean meat intake.
      Remember proteins do not make you gain weight, instead carbs/sugar from snacks/too much fruits/rice/potatoes/etc will make you gain weight thus putting on fat.

      You must burn off the extra calories that you are consuming from mainly carb/sugar products to lose weight.
      And it's not going to be easy to lose weight while not exercising and it is not healthy.

      Also try squeezing lemon in a cup of water in the morning right after waking up and drink it. It will suppress the appetite a bit and increase your metabolism naturally to promote fat burning.

      Keep doing it until you see results.

    I am currently breastfeeding about 4 times a day and I was wondering if I can go on the cabbage soup diet..I know mothers who are strictly breastfeeding can't. My son is 6 months old and is already on the bottle and solids.I currently weight 230 pounds ,need to loose 80 and need to do it fast. Already tried weight watchers and other methods of weight loss and know I should only lose about1-3 pounds a week but I don't have that kind of patience.       This is the fastest (healthiest) but not the easiest.
      First off, DO NOT take diet pills. They can do some serious harm to your heart. Plus they don't work & they're a waste of money.
      Here's what you do for quick weight loss plus you will feel better:

      Cut out all breads, pasta, cookies, cereals, crackers, chocolate, sweets, icecream, cakes, pizza, all fast food etc...basically anything made from flour & away from sugar. They are all called simple carbs. They are carbs which leave us hungry for more & that's what makes us fat. Go on a "gluten free" diet...You will lose weight & not gain if you're careful to eat correctly.
      We need to have complex carbs. (fruits, veggies, salads, protein.) Have lots of fruits & veggies.
      If you want a snack like crackers or something...go buy gluten free rice cakes from health food store. Snack on 1 or 2 a day. The only sweet you can have is maybe a tbsp of honey on a rice cracker. Just don't have more than one.
      Also you can buy gluten free flour from the health food store & make your own bread.
      Make sure you have ahead of time (like night before) cut up carrot sticks to munch on the following day. You can put lemon on them for more taste.
      Avoid cold cut meats. No ham, sausages, mortadella, salami, pepperoni, etc...If you can, stay away from dairy products...believe it or not:dairy makes us fat too...like a cow.
      By doing this...you will lose lots of weight.
      I'll give you an example of what to eat okay.?

      breakfast: 1 banana & 1 kiwi or orange
      cup of coffee or tea (no milk or sugar)
      drink 2-3 glasses of water

      lunch: grilled chicken or turkey breast(portion should be the size of your palm) w/ some lemon squeezed on it...mmm I like lemon
      romaine lettuce salad, tomato, grn onions, grated carrot, radish & whatever other green you like in there. Dressing should be balsamic vinegar or wine vinegar w/ olive oil.
      stay away from ketchup, mayo & bbq. sauce

      or you can have stir fried veggies w/ rice...also very good. You can eat rice but not pasta.

      snack:14 walnut halves or 20 almonds
      a fruit
      lots of water
      some tea

      dinner: hamburger or fish w/ brocolli or spinach
      you can have 1 or 2 rice crackers (or save them before bedtime)
      lots of water
      cup of chamomile

      before bed: pray to the Lord to help you lose weight. To give you self control. Keep asking until you receive. The Lord hears you & loves you.

      The secret to success is to be "organized & committed".
      You should have your salad, greens & veggies washed & cut up the night before so it's ready to eat for lunch the next day.
      Make sure you have bought all your ingredients/food the day before.

      Take a multi-vitamin & calcium every day.

      It's not impossible to do...just believe you can do it.

      Don't forget to exercise, drink lots & lots of water & you will see results.

      Losing weight is hard (and generally quite boring). Otherwise everyone would be skinny.

      Make sure you're not eating more than 90% of your BMR for starters.

      Then it just comes down to dull exercise. Running, cycling, rowing & the cross trainer are the best options for this. It doesn't really matter which one you do, but you have to do it for roughly an hour a day (30 minutes before breakfast, 30 minutes in the evening for optimum results). Mixing them up usually helps a little with the boredom, as does getting some good music, but that's about all you can do.

      Don't go to diet pills for the answer. What are you doing for exercise? What's your diet? Drink water... nothing but water. It can help you lose weight quicker along with exercise and a good diet. If you are exercising, increase your workout... if you're running a mile every day, go for 2. You really should be working out every day for at least 30 minutes. Take a multi-vitamin and some fish oil. Fish oil helps your metabolism a lot. Other than those things, really just stay away from diet pills... they're a quick fix, but it doesn't last... you'll only gain the pounds back later!

      I am tempted to ask why someone named "Christopher" wants to lose dress sizes - lol.

      Keep in mind that there really is no healthy way to lose a lot of weight over a prolonged period of time, but you can drop quite a bit short term and then embark on a program to steadily bring weight off over time.

      One way to drop several pounds right off the bat is to go on a one day fast of eating nothing but dark grapes, seeds and all or else watermelon. Eat all you want, but nothing else other than water. It will clean your system and also help shrink your stomach a bit so that you can eat smaller portions and feel full in the future.

      When you do eat, avoid fatty foods, trans-fats, foods containing msg or aspartame, and try to eat a more natural diet consisting of mostly raw, mostly vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, roots and tubors, with some cold water fish, free range poultry and perhaps some occasional small portions of lean cuts of free range beef not subject to feed lot practices.

      A couple of tips on losing weight:

      First of all, eat slowly and chew each bite thoroughly. Up to 50 chews per bite. You will get more benefit from the nutrients from the food you do eat and you will also allow you body's natural signal of being full to kick in sooner (it normally lags behind, which you can prove by eating say 1/3 less than normal at a meal and quit while still feeling full - only to find that you feel fuller half an hour or so later).

      Secondly, take a superior mullti-vitamin and mineral product such as IntraMax (available at Oasis Advanced Wellness for one) or Dr. Mercola's Whole Food Multivitamin Plus, which contains plenty of all the vitamins and minerals, including the oft-overlooked but essential trace minerals.

      This is a great short term program (2-3 weeks at a time) for losing a quick 6-8 pounds. Anyway, for those of you who are interested, here's the program Jon Barron designed.

      Morning: 20 ounce glass of 50% fresh Orange Juice, 25% organic aloe vera juice, 25% filtered or distilled water. With nuts (5 almonds and 4 walnut halves).

      Midday: Tablespoon of flax oil along with a tablespoon of organic cottage cheese. Or 2 tablespoons flax seeds ground up and mixed with 1 cup diluted juice.

      4:30: Large (20 oz shake)

      2 tbs Accelerator from Baseline Nutrition

      1/2 banana

      Handful frozen organic strawberries or raspberries or half raspberries and blueberries

      1/2 cup pineapple coconut juice

      1 cup water

      6:00: One tbs psyllium powder in diluted juice.

      8:00: one apple, which will actually be quite filling

      As needed, throughout the day, Warp Speed.

      Obviously, you can substitute juices and fruit in the above menu as desired -- within reason. Keep in mind, berries work well because they are low glycemic fruits.

      Do this Monday and Tuesday.

      Eat normally on Wednesday (good proteins and vegetables -- avoiding refined grains, sugars, and starches). You never want to go more than two days in a row on a low calorie program in order to keep your metabolic rate up (more than 2 days in a row of low calorie and your metabolism begins to drop) and to reward yourself.

      Repeat shake days on Thursday and Friday.

      Repeat Wednesday's sensible meals on Saturday and Sunday.

      You'll lose weight rapidly on this program -- and feel really good in the process.

      Again, keep in mind this is a short term program for 2-3 weeks at a time. For more intensive weight-loss, you will have to go on a slower, more balanced, and more sustainable program.

      BTW, the suggestions to stop drinking soda, drink green tea and excersize more are all excellent ones.

    I'm 14, 110 lbs, and 5'3", and I want to lose a little bit of weight. I'm not saying I'm fat or anything, but I do have a little bit more of it than I would like.       Get the book (or check it out from the library) "You on a diet" by Dr. Oz. It sounds like you don't need to lose weight as much as you need to make the weight not be on certain parts of your body. In Dr. Oz's book it tells you ways to eat so that you don't get abdominal fat (and flab) it also has excercises that eliminate fat around your waiste, stomach and hips. It's a really healthy way to look good.

      I struggled with weight for a long time and I did Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig etc, but when I got down to a weight that people started to say that I didn't need to lose any more I looked at my body in the mirror and even though my weight was fine, there was still flab on my stomach and hips and rear. So, I did Dr. Oz's book and it just fell off.

      If you don't feel like you can change your body on your own then you should probably join a gym (even for a month) and get a personal trainer to review what to do with you. They can find excercises that will tone and eliminate areas that your conscience about.

      Is 5 weight chats enough to convince you?

      The first thing to realize is that ‘Barbie” IS NOT Healthy, she’s ANOREXIC.
      The only way to stay that skinny without being unhealthy is to be a long distance runner or some other very high endurance oriented athlete who trains more than 2-4 hours a day and still has to maintain good eating habits to perform well.
      If you really want to look great all your life, plan on a career in athletics, body building, or as a personal trainer. You don’t need to be a “professional” athlete, just learn 1 sport well enough to qualify as an instructor, or lots of general fitness information, well enough to be a Phys-ED instructor.

      Best advice in the long run is eat healthy (plenty of fruits & vegetables, easy on the high unsaturated fat stuff (ice cream, candy bars, grease-burgers, etc) And get in a habit of exercising regularly. Preferably 5-6 days a week for 30 min+ of real exercise (do not include warm-up or cool down in that time) Keep in mind that the “20 min 3x/week” that you hear about so much is the minimum you need to “maintain”, you need more than that to improve. Also keep in mind that longer workouts do more than more workouts(as long as you get in at least 1 work-out every 48 hours) ... I.E. 3 1-hour workouts in 6 days is better than 6 30-minute workouts(assuming the same intensity level all they way through.)

      Another mind-set thing that might help, remember muscle is heavier than fat, aim to be in better condition, you can be heavier (pounds wise) but still look much better & if you have a lower BMI, the weight on the scale only tells you part of the story.

      Drink a lot of water. That will make you feel that your stomach is full. Don't eat dinner. Have just a simple salad for dinner. It's more important to form your diet this way so the energy you're receiving is less than the energy you're burning during the day. If you just increase the exercise and you don't do nothing about your diet, it's like digging a hole into the water.

Hire a nutrionist and get blood test for blood type and food allergies. B.     Why does everyone think fasting is such an inferior method of weight loss?
    I don't understand this. I've experimented with fasting since I was young and never had any bad experiences.

    I recently lost 95 lbs, and between 30 - 50 lbs were lost from water fasting...I've kept it all off...the rest was from a raw vegetarian diet.

    I see all these people saying you lose water weight, muscle mass, you'll die; Sure, the first pound or two will be from glycogen stores being drained, as well as, erm, the emptying of your stomach, but logically thinking, why would you lose massive amounts of water while in-taking more than usual? Muscle isn't used as an energy source until fat reserves are at a bare minimum, and the fact that the human body stores fat for energy during an absence of food, why would it be using muscle for energy before it is all used up?

    I have no loss of muscle mass, no deficiencies whatsoever (checked by doctor), and if I had lost 30 - 50 lbs of muscle and water, I would be dead by now :/

    My doctor knows about this, and has no problems at all.

    Sounds like weight-watchers propaganda. Whats the thinking?

      If you lost only fat by water fasting then you would be a modern miracle. Sounds more like pro ana propaganda.

      There is no nutrition in fat stores only energy. Your metabolism is probably shut down so you can exist on very little. Your body would have to break down lean tissue to provide protein requirements.

      Try diet pill meridia..it's an RX though..im not sure of that exact spelling.My friend was on redline diet pills ...only in states...and she did treadmill everyday..she lost huge in a short time....although your heart rate goes up , of course, and I believe you would get the jitters. If you get diet pills from the states , even their GNC's, they are much stronger then what we get here....trust me though , I always thought the same as you " If I start with easy methods to loose, then once I reached my goal i could maintain with healthy eating patterns ect....doesnt work...TRUST ME...I think most readers agree. The effort and time you will put into these methods are a waste of time...most likely you will gain the weight back and feel worse before you started...and then start that same cycle over....just do it the tough way..it may take slower BUT if you stick to it, results will come and will stay.     So heres the deal. i started dieting, and occasionally exercing december 1st 2008. on dec 1st i weighed 306 lbs. now roughly 8 months later i weigh 241.2 lbs. so about 65 lbs ive lost so far.

    my question is, that when i first started i was trying to walk at least a mile everyday and do light cardio 2-3 times a week. however with school and work and whatnot, im not really finding myself exercising much anymore. but im still losing weight. but, ive limited myself to roughly 1000-1200 calories a day. its not so much that i watch what i eat, just watch how much i eat.

    like today, i had a taco, and a balogne sandwich. and i did the math and thats only about like 600 calories. i dont really feel hungry, and im not tired or moody or anything, but i drink alot of unsweeted hot green tea, which seems to help curb my hunger.

    mainly im just wanting to know if its ok that im doing this. ive been told that, that is to low of calories, and i should at least be getting 1500, but i feel kinda sick if i eat that much in a day. and im still slowly losing weight so i dont see the problem.

    i also fast for a day every couple weeks, if that matters.

      being thin doesnt mean yer health, u know. i was reading your question and i noticed u dont seem dat worried bout yer nutrients/vitamins intakes. calories isnt the only issue, u should take care of your foods properties!! There are some high calories foods dat r very rich for your health (nuts...)and some low kcal foods that will add nothing to your body (low kcal white bread...)!

      Healthy life is more about intelligent eating than kcal restriction.

      I am woman, i eat more kcal than u do, and im still losing weight healthily! If ure not that certain bout yer diet yet, u should try a doctor :) ! Your health in 1st place,rite?

      I find that drinking water helps a lot in shedding weight. It isn't so much the water but the lack of sugar that's in drinks that does it.

      I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
      1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
      2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
      3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

      It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

      Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track.       I'm in exactly the same position at the moment only different stats and I've tried a 10 day fast before.

      After the 10 days, i felt incredible! it was aw some, i lost about a 1.5 pounds a day.... BUT- once i ate my first tea-spoon of food i went completely berserk. i ate everything in sight and gained all the weight back and felt absolutely miserable.

      In the meantime I've done some research (should've done before hand) and found that 'Breaking the fast' is universally the hardest bit.

      ANYWAY- i was thinking it would make it much easier if we had someone in the same boat, so if you wanna be 'fasting buddies'.... hit me up k?

    I gained a lot of weight on birth control, and I want to lose it by summer. I quit taking the pill, but I gained about 20 pounds over a very short period of time. I am obviously willing to work, and I do feel that the weight will start to come off the longer I am off the pill.       If you wanna lose weight, you gotta burn calories and burn fat, which will happen through cardio activity. It's not as bad as it sounds though. Mix up the types of cardio you do, like use the stationary bike a few times a week, the treadmill, the elliptical machine.. heck, if your gym has a pool you could even swim some laps.

      Also, aim for about 30 minutes of cardio activity a day, or more.

      If you also want to build MUSCLE, you can do that without cardio (but you need the cardio to burn fat). You can use the weights to gain muscle.

    Super Fast Weight Loss?
    I 5' 6" and I'm 164lbs. I have been trying to loose weight for about 3 weeks now so far I have lost 11lbs. Unfortunately this is not fast enough. Is there any weight loss plan that is free. I don't want to become too skinny I want to loose about 15lbs. I have currently restricted my diet to about 700 calories per day. I am fully aware that this is not healthy which is why I am wondering if there is any other method. I don't want to starve myself on the master cleanse but I also don't want to not eat. I do about 20 crunches per day but the weight just does not seem to want to come off. I cant afford to buy a program so that is out of the picture for now. I would like to loose the 15lbs in about 2 weeks or less if possible. Thanks to all who respond.

      You can add 5-7 pieces of fruit to what you are eating. apples are filling and they contain no fat. Bananas, oranges you can eat all you want and not gain weight. but you'll be nourished and energized and not starving. and drink only plain water. running for 30 minutes a day is very beneficial. Skip the crunches they are a total waste of time.

    Need to lose weight, what method should i use?
    Okay, to start, i'm 16, not sure of my height, likely somewhere around 5'7. i just got on my scale for the first time in about a month, and 276 lbs. with clothes on. probably 270 without clothes. now, i've been overweight for about 9 years, but back then i was only about maybe 20 to 30 lbs. over. except for the 2 or 3 years it seems its got a little, and a little more overweight and now i'm here. i am now fearing i could be a borderline diabetic or be at risk for other problems.

    now, what i eat and drink.........

    for breakfast, i sometimes skip it, but when i don't its pretty much McDonalds, Hardee's, or Sonic fast food.

    for lunch, Subway (always the footlong meatball sandwhich), McDonalds, Hardee's, BBQ, Sonic, Wendy's, and Arbys (always get the roast beef sandwhiches)

    for dinner
    Pizza, Subway (meatball), Arby's (roast beef), McDonalds, Wendy's, or eat at home sometimes, thats usally pork chops, sloppy joes, hamburgers and baked beans, or T.V. dinners.

    drinks
    pretty much nothing but soft drinks but there always diet or sweeted with Splenda. rarely drink water, but i know i need to.
    i work 8-10 hours a day and school at night, so eating breakfast and lunch at home is not possible.

    and also, please don't tell me to eat special foods or buy pills, i simply can't afford that, nor can i get checked for any health risks, no med insurance.
    i'd prefer a exercise diet but i don't have time (work-school-sleep-work-school-sleep is my daily life)

    main question, what is the best weight loss method for a guy like me? foodless diet? liquid diet? also, what Should be my correct weight?

      There's no point in buying pills because there's 50% chance they'll work. Your eating routine is horrible. I've made an eating schedule for you. This will cut out some of the junk food, but I promise, it will work.

      Breakfast:
      Fruit salad, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt.

      Lunch: Salad, turkey & cheese (subway) sandwhich, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt.

      Lunch:
      Potatoes, salad, etc.

      You should have at least 3 fruits/veggies a day. I suggest getting one fast food meal per month. Also, drink water for monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, saturday, and sunday. On Friday, you can drink pop. Run everyday and work out.
