I don't know about you, but I'm getting sick of seeing these silly little "obey" ads everywhere. One says "obeying this rule." Another says "obeying this one rule." Still another says "obeying this one old rule." Jeese, it's the same thing! Sometimes they take off the "ing" and it's "obey bla bla bla!"

What's really bad, is you go to a web page and you may find half a dozen "obey" ads on the same frackin page. Give us a break. What can we do to squelch this silly ad spam? Well I guess as long as people keep clicking on them and buying their crap then they will continue plague us with their ad sores.

I remember when I needed to lose weight sometime back. Here's my story...

I had a real problem. I needed to lose some weight, and I needed to lose it fast.
As often I do, I tend to procrastinate. I got the info about the class reunion in plenty of time, but as usual, I waited.

Then something caught my eye and I realized if I did not want to be a whale at the reunion I really needed to do something. And I needed to do it fast. Problem was, I had no idea what to do or where to go.

My first thought was: Join a fitness center. But my brain remembered a saying that went like this: "exercising a fat body will only result in a strong fat body."

I knew that there were professional weight-loss programs like Jenny Craig and NutriSystem along with different diets like Atkins that have great results, but they do it over time. To mea A long time. A really LONG time!

I thought about trying diet pills, but didn't want that edgy caffeine feeling. So I started looking on the Internet. Everywhere I went I kept seeing this same OLD ad. "#1 Rule, Obey." I looked at the ad and quickly saw that it was pretty much a scam. "Obey this one rule" and your life would be totally different. Well, what I say after researching it is "BULL CRAP!"

After searching beyond the stupid "Just Obey this 1 Rule" crap was some real information that could get my weight down quickly.

In fact! I found a couple of e-books that I bought, and downloaded instantly, that changed my life forever. And by following their instructions, I was able to get my weight down considerably in time for my reunion. And I'm stronger too.

Now when I see those STUPID crap Ads that say something like: "#1 rule for a perfect body." or "1 rule bla bla bla" or "obey" - I simply point my finger at it and say: "DISOBEY!"

      I think it all starts with eating right and doing excerise first. I wasn't always in shape. Many years ago I was very overweight and didn't watch what I ate and it quickly became out of control. I tried every machine and diet food out there..along with many diet programs but none of them worked.     Fast is the worst possible way to lose weight. Do people not realize that fast weight loss always comes back? Or do they not care? Or do they not believe it? 10 points best answer.

      Hi!
      How refreshing to see that someone agrees with me and many other health professionals out there. Every day as Dietitians, we battle with people who are trying to loose weight. They want to loose it quickly, we suggest no more than 0.5-1.5 kg per week (1-3 pounds).

      I hope many other people are reading these comments and hopefully learning something. When you drastically cut back calories or eliminate a food group from your diet (i.e carbohydrates) you will get rapid weight loss. In the short term, your muscle will shed the fluid that they naturally hold on to. This initial fluid loss presents are weight loss on the scales and people go yippee!!. however the percentage of actual fat lost is small unless the diet continues for months and months. You also can loose muscle weight on extreme diets and this is the worst thing for your metabolism, which needs muscle to burn the calories you consume so it is indirectly sabotaging your weight loss efforts.

      However most people don't stick to diets for that long so when it is stopped, they will regain the fluid they have lost (not a bad thing) but also added fat that they may not have had before which is why diets are oftenblamed for making us bigger instead of smaller! Diets also don't teach you to change your bad habits, or learn new healthy cooking methods etc. You need to get to the bottom of why you are overweight/overeating rather than search for a quick fix.

      When we lose weight sensibly in the amounts I have recommended, you start losing fat straight away and retain your stored fluid and muscle mass. The best way I have found is a diet low in fats i.e 25%, 20% protein and 55% carbohydrates however others may disagree.

      The bottom line is that gaining fat is much easier than losing it and so it should be. So please people, take the time, change your food habits, see a professional Nutritionist or Dietician and learn some patience and perseverence

      With all of the extravagant claims for weight loss products and schemes - whether they have to do with tea or not - a good rule of thumb is buyer beware. With that in mind, however, there is evidence that indicates that tea might play a role in weight loss.

      When it comes to losing weight, one of the simplest ways tea can help is by acting as a substitute for high-calorie sweetened beverages. Freshly brewed tea without milk, sugar or other additives has no calories and even small amounts of these add-ins typically contribute only a modest amount. By comparison, a 16-ounce Starbucks Frappucino may contain as much as 470 calories, while eight ounces of Coca-Cola contains 97 calories.

      Studies also indicate that tea itself may play a role in weight loss. A 2005 study looked at 35 Japanese men over a period of three months. Some subjects were given bottled oolong tea with a green tea extract that contained 690 milligrams of catechins. Others were given oolong tea that contained 22 milligrams of catechins. Though their diets were similar, the former group lost an average of 5.3 pounds, as opposed to the latter's 2.9 pounds. The men given higher doses of catechins also saw a greater decrease in body mass index, waist size, total body fat and undesirable LDL cholesterol.

      More recently, research conducted at the University of Connecticut over a period of six week, saw both lean and obese mice fed a green tea extract (GTE), in varying amounts. As noted in these pages previously, the study found that the extract might help ward off fatty liver disease. There are also indications that GTE might aid in weight loss as well as lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

      Other research examining possible connections between tea and weight loss include this study from 1999, which investigated whether green tea extract could increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation in humans. Another study, whose results were also published in 1999, examined the alleged anti-obesity action of oolong tea. Yet another study, published in 2000, measured the effectiveness of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) derived from green tea leaves in reducing appetite and contributing to weight loss in rats.

    Can fast weight loss be healthy if done right?
    Fast weight loss is unhealthy because it can slow your metabolism and it will make you start burning muscle (from what I understand so far).

    So my question is, Can fast weight loss be healthy if while cutting your calories you still separate to 5-6 meals a day to keep your metabolism up; While also going to the gym everyday working different muscle groups every other day, while still doing a strong aerobic workout every day?

      Fast weight loss may not be the ideal way, but it does have advantages:
      1. It's better than remaining overweight.
      2. It may be easier to stick to a short, brutal diet vs slow gradual weight loss.
      3. You may have a deadline for your weight loss.

      The fastest way to lose weight is a protein-sparing modified fast. The best book out there is by Lyle McDonald and is called the Rapid Fat Loss Handbook. There's a review on my blog.

      When it comes to losing weight, calories are all that matters. If I eat a 500 calorie cheeseburger, or 500 calories worth of wheat bread, the body is still going to store it/use it the same way.

    Im over 500 pounds how can i get a faster weight loss during a 7 day water fast. If you have any tips tell me, im on the 2nd day and it seems like i lost nothing.

      Don't g weighing yourself al the time, it'll just demotivate you if you haven't lost what you've expected to loose. Just wait till the end of the 7 days fast and then weigh yourself.
      But to answer your question - you are already down to eating nothing, so the only thing left is exercise if you can manage it. I'd go on a walk everyday as it's relatively low key. I'm not sure what your height it, but at 500lbs I'm guessing that you are pretty overweight, so take it slow, don't overdo it, just walk as much as you can without exhausting yourself. Time yourself that first day and walk the same amount of time the next day. As you are fasting you might have very little energy soon, so be careful combining that with walking. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded or whatever, just stop.

    Does fast weight loss affect the effectiveness of your birth control?
    I am on the depo shot and recently had weight loss surgery. The weight loss from the surgery has caused lots of heavy spotting (which has never happened before on the depo shot with me). Is the weight loss counteracting the effectiveness of the shot?

      It is possible to lose weight rapidly but you should be realistic and take on board that if you lose weight quickly then you will inevitably put it all back on again just as quickly. I lost 5 pounds over the past few weeks when I had a special celebration to attend, and I did it by following the instruction supplied on the site in the box below.

    How many carbs should I intake a day to see fast weight loss results?

      Stop....before you try any programs you should know a few things about food. One is where the food you eat falls on the glycemic index. This is important for your body to function correctly. Usana Health Sciences has a product called Reset, this product has a weeks worth of meals to reset your bodies sugar levels and a complete meal plan for after the first week. It is awesome and worked well for me.

      There is also a great supplement called Acai Berry Select, this will also help you jump start your weight loss. This product gives you a month supply for free as a trial. I added this to the reset and wow did it work. After the first month if you want more of the Acai Berry Select it does cost, but they don't require you to keep going after the free trial it is all up to you

    @Perfectangelana: How much weight did you lose in a week of eating just string cheese & drinking smoothies?

    • ANSWER:
      Drink plenty of mineral water as your main daily intake of liquid. I like Volvic, if you haven't taken the challenge you should try, it really is full of volcanicity! A cheaper option would be to buy a Brita water filter.

      Give up sugar loaded carbonated soft drinks. No more Dr Pepper, no more Pepsi. Just one can of Coke contains 31% of your recommended daily amount of sugar! If this is not possible, limit yourself to one can a day.

      Walk when you can. Walk to the shops, walk to your weekly appointment, walk to the school, even walk to work if you want. If it's within reasonable walking distance walk. You'll save money on petrol too.

      Eat sandwiches without margarine or butter whichever you use. I don't find either of these improve the taste of the sandwich if you can taste it at all. In fact, you'll hardly notice it's not there.

      Cut down on fast foods. I'm not telling you to give up, but to cut back on takeaway grub, maybe limit it to once a week or fortnight, and when you do buy in smaller quantities. Order a cheeseburger instead of quarter pounder, buy a small doner kebab, order a small pizza. And of course wash it down with a bottle of Buxton spring water!

      If you usually eat a whole tub of Ben & Jerry's in one, eat only half. If you usually eat six packets of crisps a day, eat just two. If you usually order 2 big macs, large fries, chicken nuggets and large cola, order just 1 quarter pounder, medium fries and a bottle of water.

    I have recently purchased the Slim in 6 workout program. I need to to lose weight fast, and yes I know that losing weight extremely fast isn't healthy, but I'm looking to lose the most weight I can in a healthy manner.       You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep your fat percentage high. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

      If you starve yourself, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn't get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn't slow your metabolism down to compensate for lowered calories.

      Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

      High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

      Its because when you get off a diet you generally go back to your old ways, or you think i'm not on a diet any more, food isn't forbidden! and then you pig out. just be careful about what you eat and you will be fine

      Taking pills is the worst thing you can do for yourself. You should try working on your eating habits and set small and achievable goals at first. Also start an exercise regimen. Remember, weight loss should be slow, gradual and permanent! Not a quick fix unless you want to fail at it.       There are unnatural ways of burning fat by burning thermogenics, which I don't recommend even as a GNC representative because they can mess with your hormones and thyroid.

      The best way to make your body utilize fat and burn them is to limit your carb intake while increasing your lean meat intake.
      Remember proteins do not make you gain weight, instead carbs/sugar from snacks/too much fruits/rice/potatoes/etc will make you gain weight thus putting on fat.

      You must burn off the extra calories that you are consuming from mainly carb/sugar products to lose weight.
      And it's not going to be easy to lose weight while not exercising and it is not healthy.

      Also try squeezing lemon in a cup of water in the morning right after waking up and drink it. It will suppress the appetite a bit and increase your metabolism naturally to promote fat burning.

      Keep doing it until you see results.

      Awesome dinner, yes. Some lovely lean meat or fish makes a really good main dish.

      thermogenics are pretty popular to increase your energy level without too many calories (sorta like a 5hour energy without carbs). b12 is always popular.

      if you are going to exercise you can stack whey protein with dextrose and creatine, but it wont help weight loss if you aren't exercising vigorously.

      me also.i was 83kg six weeks ago until i go to the gym and go six days per week until now.now in six weeks,i lost 6 kg and nearly 13pounds.i burned around 13000 calories in total to date.i did track my effort and found out i have to lose around 3700calories for 1kg and 1800calories for 0.5kg.i did diet by cutting down rice intake which i did not eat rice anymore yet still consume mee in the morning.i eat cereal bread,biscuit and oat cereal,and still eat vegetable and little meat.

      Basic Diet Consists of 3-4 days of eating the following foods at each meal (4-5 meals/day):
      4-5 oz of fish, chicken, lean beef, turkey
      4 cups of veggies of these types (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, brussell’s sprouts, collard greens, spinach) - these are usually frozen and I measure out 4 cups total of any combination of them
      1 tablespoon olive oil
      seasonings to taste (salt, pepper, hot sauce, soy sauce - anything without calories). No need to limit salt intake here if you like to salt your foods.

      Supplements consist primarily of:
      Specially formulated blend of Antioxidants
      Specially formulated blend of High-Potency B-Vitamins
      Ripwire
      Branched Chain Amino Acids (a lot!)
      Several other esoteric supplements like 7-Keto (I’ll go into these in detail at a later time).

      Then, every 4rd or 4th day my diet consists of (really!):

      Pancakes
      Haagen-Daazs ice cream
      Snickers bars
      Rice
      Bread
      Donuts
      Pasta
      Ice cream shakes

      The last 3 weeks or so coming up I’ll be a lot less liberal on the all-you-can-eat junk food days. In fact, I’ll only have a high carb meal at the end of the day on Monday and Thursday for the next 3 weeks. This is only in order to get to the very low bodyfat levels.

      Do scissors (where you lie down and lift one leg up in the air over and over)

      And that person that told you to run clearly didnt read your question because if you cant walk, you cant run.

      Other than that, follow what the other people said about dieting. But just so you know, if you lose 15lbs in a week or two, you lost water weight, which is totally useless to you because you'll only put it back on and be disappointed (also, I heard that water weight doesn't show, so if thats true, then losing 15lbs in water weight wont make you look any better) just eat right. And you do need some meat because without iron and protien, you aren't going to do your body much good.

      Oh, and its total B*S that diet drinks wont make you gain weight, they will! Just because they don't have sugar doesn't mean you can still drink them! and FYI, all carbinated drinks are bad for your health.

      Honestly; it depends on how much skin youre talking about. If it was an extreme amount of weight that you lost and you were carrying it for long time ~ your skin actually loses elasticity and wont go back....
      Vitamin B and Vitamin E are good to help your skin but you should maybe see your doctor and discuss the issue further.

      According to a co-worker of mine who lost 85 lbs doing the Dr. Bernstein diet ~ he gives you a shot of straight vitamin B every week to help ensure that your skin doesn't become flabby after the weight loss. Don't eat anything after 7PM so that way your body burns all of those calories you've had earlier on that day.

      This would be considered a crash diet because its under 1,000 calories. And because its not that many calories you will be left very tired and drowsy throughout the day.       Im actually going on this wacko diet that I saw on tv just to test it out. It's where you just drink this drink Beyonce made famous and supposedly worked wonders. I think she lost like 20 lbs in 10 days!? Im not sure if that's even physically possible but I want to see so maybe you might want to try that with me?

      Oh and another thing these diets should absolutely be short term not like a month or even 2 weeks. It can be very very dangerous if you do it longer.
