      I totally know where you're coming from - before I lost weight, I tried Hydroxycut and it made me really dizzy and gave me these awful headaches. I suppose that's how you lose weight with it - you feel too sick to eat :) lol

    I make my own carb blocker: I grind white kidney beans in the grinder until they are powder and scoop out one teaspoon before eating starchy meals. I also eat plenty of seaweed and drink plenty of green tea. Forget about expensive supplements like Acai Berry, Hoodia, and all that other stuff. Eating a teaspoon of dried, grinded, white bean powder seems to do the trick: it adds lots of fiber--I don't know if it really blocks carbs, but it looks like it. I drink at least 3 cups of green tea per day, and I eat plenty of seaweed. I also eat rye bread instead of wheat or white bread, or that multi grain crap.
    Here's my day:
    Breakfast: 24 oz. yogurt(has probiotics for digestive system)
    1 cup pineapple juice with pommegranate juice(immune system)
    2 cups coffee without sugar or sweetener
    1 12 oz. cup green tea
    lunch: usually I am still full from the yogurt, so I eat my seaweed
    snack: fresh fruits like banana, apple, strawberries etc.etc.
    Dinner: 2-3 slices European rye bread dressed up with anything(i.e.Salami, turkey breast, pastrami, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes--whatever I have in the house.
    Late snack: Miso soup--made from miso paste with brocolli,green onions, garlic, whatever veggie I have in the house--and then added to it a handful of seaweed. Tastes great, low in calories, fat free, and very filling.
    So what's your dieting secret?
    Just want to add that before each meal I drink a cup of green tea!!!
    I lost 25 lbs effortlessly with that because I have pig out days--and I never count the calories of the stuff I put on my bread or the other stuff I eat--like rice, pasta, etc.etc.

      Raw white kidney beans are considered toxic.
      You say you have been doing this for some time so it obviously is not "poisoning" you.
      I do have a suspicion that it is causing some irritation and/ or inflammation.

      I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

      Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

      First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

      This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

      However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called ProShapeRX. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder.       I would stay away from Hoodia or anything else without talking to your doctor first. Acai is definitely great for you and packed with antioxidants, but I would stay away from any of those "cleansing" products. The only time your body needs to be cleansed is before a colonoscopy! So if your gonna use it, drink the regular juice. Green tea is a great option - it's been proven to increase fat oxidation, boost your metabolism, lowers cholesterol and is packed with antioxidants.

      First step is talk to your doc. If you're burning more calories than you eat and not loosing the weight, there could be other things going on in your body thats preventing it.

      Cardio, cardio and more cardio plus some strength training. Try to get at least 30 minutes of cardio in per day. Walking, running, biking or any of the cardio machines at the gym will work great. Doing some strength training will help speed the results.       Hello, the best one i could advise would be l-carnitine. It must be used in conjunction with an exercise regime but if you are trying to lose weight then i am guessing that you are exercising. l-carnitine is a natural substance in the body, the body uses it to transport stored fat into your muscles when exercising. People who have low l-carnitine levels may go work out for 1 hour and only have an effective stored fat loss of maybe 15 minutes of the workout. The rest of the 45 mins is burning the days food intake and ATP. So taking the l-carnitine before a workout just insures you get the maximum results for your hard work. Sugar cravings usually come from vitamin deficiency. It is important for you to take a good quality multi, and eat foods that combined, will give you complete proteins and amino acids. Foods like this would be for eg. grain toast with baked beans on top, or a salad with some egg in it or tuna. Avoid white breads, sugar and as many carbs as you can. I would allow 1 day per week where you can splash out and enjoy foods, but other than that i would try and keep 6 days per week on a healthy eating plan. The reason why diets dont work is because you are trying to tell your body that you can never eat unhealthy foods again....how would anyone be successful in that!!! Allow yourself to continue to enjoy the foods you like, but as i mentioned before, just limit the amount of time you allow this to happen. There is only so many potatoes and chips and icecream you can eat in one day!!!! And the more you avoid thosee foods during the other 6 days, the less tolerance your body will have to them, the less you will be able to consume them....Drink loads of water.....this is the KEY!!!!!

I feel badly for them, because in desperation, they spend so much hard-earned money and time on trying all of these gimmicks, only to be disappointed.

      I'll get off of my soapbox now (sorry - I just get very irritated how companies take advantage of the disadvantaged all for the sake of greed!). If you want to learn more of Acai and all of its wonderful nutritional properties, search for "David Wolfe + Acai" - he was one of the main guys who introduced this berry into the mainstream. - I don't think I've ever read or heard him talk once about any weight loss properties of it..... only that it's high in antioxidants and other nutrients. But, so are many other fruits! And, if you go on a frugivore diet, you will reap weight loss benefits!

      For the sake of your question, I Googled "Acai + weight loss" and "green tea + weight loss" and got almost 17,000,000 results and over 10,000,000 results respectively - see what I mean! You're better off just cutting out animal products and byproducts and eating a mostly raw vegan diet - you can't imagine how quickly you can lose weight while becoming healthier, more vibrant and energetic, and attaining a exuberant over-all well-being!! So, to answer your question - neither one. For your own sake, stop falling for the lose-weight-quick schemes and do what you know is best - eat healthy, exercise, and get plenty of good rest - your body will then know how to reach your ultimate weight AND health.

      Once again, I apologize for sounded all high and mighty, but I've been there and done all of it - for 35 years (since I was a teenager)! My last endeavor with a truly effective, sustainable raw food diet lifestyle has finally gotten me long-lasting results.       Do NOT take diet pills! They are dangerous!!

      Last year I was visiting my parents and took diet pills on top on my exercise routine and normal diet. I was 26 at the time, 5'11, 180 lbs. By week three I was sick. I had diarrhea, dry heaves, dizziness, headaches, and a general feeling of being sick. I thought I had caught the flu or something. I had lost 13 lbs in 4 days. One morning I told my mom I didn't feel good. My vision kept blacking out and I felt (for lack of a better way to say it) stoned. Later that afternoon I was walking from the bathroom to my bedroom (a 5 foot walk) and I passed out. I was rushed to the hospital emergency where they did a bunch of tests on me.

      My pulse was up to 120, My blood pressure was 150/40, they had to start me on an IV, the did an EKG on me, took blood and urine samples, and a whole barrage of other tests.

      They finally got me stabilized and said that I was dehydrated and malnutritioned. I told him that I took diet pills. When I mentioned diet pill, the doctors face lit up and said that's why. He said they can cause a whole bunch of health problems, including death. He told me to toss the diet pills or next time I might not be so lucky.

      I was kept in the hospital for almost 10 hours, given 3 or 4 IVs, potassium, juices, and monitored (by the EKG, blood pressure, and heart rate machines) every 15 minutes.

      Please take my story as a warning. If you seriously want to loose weight there are better ways (I know because I've lost weight after this)

      The quickest way to lose weight is to cut out red meats, starches, breads, sugars, alcohol, and sodas.

      Eat veggies (salads are good), soups, and drink TONS of water. If you get hungry between a meal, drink water to fill up.

      In moderation eat white meats, and fruits (fruits contain natural sugars, and that can put on weight)

      Practice portion control. Yes, you'll feel hungry at first, but think of your goal, and soon your stomach will start shrinking and you won't have that feeling anymore.

      Eat 5 times a day. A small breakfast. A mid-morning snack, such as an apple. A small lunch. A mid-afternoon snack, such as carrots. A lite dinner. Do not eat any later than 7pm (6pm is better.)

      Go exercise for at least an hour - two a day, incorporating weight training along with your cardio. Cardio helps to melt the fat, while weight training builds muscle. Muscle burns fat, even when you are resting. You get the idea. It also gives tone and definition. Also do a few yoga and pilates exercises to help tone those hard to reach and stubborn areas

      I assume you're talking about over the counter or OTC diet pills. Some do work however you should understand how they work. Most fall into two major categories there are pills which contain a expandable fibers, inside of your stomach they react with the liquids of your digestive system and form a thick goopy web like structure, made out of fiber. This makes you think you are full so you eat less and lose weight. The second kind prevents your body from absorbing the food so it "passes through" you quicker (i hope that was clear enough). Many of them also contain appetite supressant which sends messages to your brian that surpress signals of hunger, this doesn't work on everyone and is kind of hit or miss.

      There are lots of other stimulants which say they help you burn through calories faster giving you more energy. Bsically they are pumping you full of sugar or caffine. In some cases the doses are so high people start acting "off" or "funny" and in some cases you get the shakes. You can become dependant on these sugar or caffine "high" if you aren't carful so have a friend be on the lookout for warning signs.

      Most OTC pills work only for a little while it can vary from 3-9 months and after that they start to lose there ability to help you lose weight. So they best strategy is take them while you are exercising and improving your diet. You can get results that are dramatic in a very short time. Just make sure you are learning to maintain it during this time or you will put it all back on.

    Is it safe and/or effective to take fiber supplements to help boost weight loss?
    I have a weigh in on Tuesday for Weight Watchers and my weight went up by about 2 pounds last week after an unhealthy binge. I want to try to get my weight down as much as possible. I've been eating an extra healthy diet, but I'm considering taking fiber supplements to help get my weight down a little more.

    I will not take more than the recommended dosage for the day and this will be in addition to my healthy diet and exercise. I want to possibly use the extra fiber as a detox/cleanse (to help "flush out" excess "crap".)

    Is this safe or even effective?

      Taking fiber supplements is alright if you take the as directed, but they should not be used to cheat on a weigh-in. Taking supplements to lower weight right before a weigh-in is not wise. If you try to take laxatives to get rid of extra weight before a weigh-in it could be a sign of an eating disorder.

      Take fiber supplements if you need them to get enough fiber in your diet, but don't take them for any other reason. Get your fiber through fruits and veggies and get more exercise.

      The favorite right now with the cold weather is 15 bean soup.
      One cup a day is over 100% of RDA of soluble fiber. Binds to fatty acids similar to the way Alli diet pills work. For about 25¢ a day.
      Yes you get a bit gassy at first but after building up the good bacteria in the large intestine it tapers off. Great source of protein, iron, and calcium. And keeps you regular.
      Also act as a complex carb so they make you feel full longer.
      Spice them up with chili and garlic powder, black pepper and onions and diced tomatoes and the spices help increase metabolic rate.
