Learn The Fast Way To Lose Weight

Diet Weight Loss

The Mayo Clinic Diet has been said to be around since the 1940's but no one knows exactly where it came from. Year after year, the Mayo Clinic gets inquiries regarding the Mayo Clinic Diet but, none the less, the diet is not associated with the clinic. The plan offers a new lifestyle approach to maintaining and managing your weight.

The diet plan allows you eat an unlimited amount of vegetables and fruits, plus a wide variety of healthy picks from all of the other food groups. It also focuses on eating grapefruit to help speed up the weight loss effects with fat burning.

This diet method states, that there are no foods that are considered off limits but they do advise that if you eat foods that are high in fat, this will help eliminate hunger. They also practice the rule that you should stop eating when you feel satisfied and full. They claim that this is the key element in the success of this plan. Most diets that restrict foods can be effective for a certain amount of time but in the long run you only pack on the pounds again due to feeling deprived and then overeating.

The other main key in this plan is to maintain a good daily physical activity level due to its positive effects on weight management and overall health. The actual Mayo clinic states that this diet may be dangerous for some people and they continue to state that this diet is in no way associated with them. The diet offers rapid weight loss for individuals, by consuming grapefruit, vegetables, salads and large amounts of meats and fats. It is still very important not to over eat and to stop when you feel full. You also want to try avoiding snacks in between meals on this plan.

Success Rate - while there is no real statistics reported for the success rate of the so-called Mayo Clinic Diet, it has been noted that there is rapid weight loss that is common among dieters that use this method. People on this diet claim they have lost up to 52 pounds in a 2-month period, which is due to an extreme weight loss from a high-protein and high-fat plan. As with any diet, individual results will vary. This can be a good jump start to your weight loss but you would still need to get a good exercise plan and eating plan down pat in order to keep the weight off.

Before starting any diet program or exercise program, consult your doctor. Your physician will help you choose an exercise regimen and diet plan that meets your goals and needs. You do not want to lose weight too quickly as this can be very damaging to your body and overall health.

As with any fad diet, you will see the weight come off quickly but if you do not incorporate a healthy style of eating then you will quickly gain back all that was lost and in some cases even more.

  5. QUESTION:
If caffine is bad for your diet/weight loss why do some diet pills contain caffiene?
If caffiene is bad for your diet/weight loss why do some diet pills contain caffiene?

    • ANSWER:
The caffeine in diet pills speed up your metabolic rate for awhile, burning a couple more calories than otherwise. Caffeine hypes up the system, but when it burns out, watch out! That's when people crave the carbs and sweets putting in jeapordy all the calories they burned while the diet pill was working! A diet should be a healthy change for the better. What a person's eating habits should do is keep his or her blood level at an even level. Caffeine, sweets, highly processed carbs won't do that for you. That's why you should skip the diet pills and focus on eating a balanced, healthy diet.

  6. QUESTION:
Is trident sugar free gum bad for a diet/weight loss?
I'm keeping myself on a diet from no lower than 110 pounds and no higher than 120 *as for my weight and height right now*. I chew trident sugar free gum every day and exercise every day. Some days ill do more exercise than others. Is trident gum *sugar free* bad for your weight loss, diet, health, teeth?

    • ANSWER:
No. I hope your planned weight is healthy for your height, you didn't share how tall you are! If it is, it sounds like you are on the right track, although you want to make sure you are alternating the type of exercise you do-don't work the same groups of muscles every day, they'll burn out and you'll hurt yourself.

But Trident Sugar Free gum is not bad for weight loss. It's actually ADA approved-most of it, you need to check each package though! It is "good" for your teeth, in that chewing gum acts sort of like brushing (NOT a replacement!) if you chew it after eating. Each stick of gum is less than 5 calories, and honestly you do not need to worry about the calories that come from sugar free gum. However, many different types of sugar free gum and candy (including Trident) include a chemical called Xylitol that they use as a sugar substitute, and this can sometimes cause diarrhea, though not often. You should be fine chewing it!

I have a complete exercise plan but I am still confused on a specific diet plan that will help me achieve maximum weight loss..
Any good menus that have worked with anyone else?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

I graduated high school at 240 pounds and at 5 foot 3 that made me about as round as I was tall. I was one of those overweight teenagers who ate anything and everything without any regard to the effects it was having on my own body. Therefore, I began the diet pills, which did not work; I ate the special diet foods and even began drinking diet beverages. None of this stuff worked for me, just as it does not work for millions of overweight people. Eating less did not work and I was not one to work out or even get up and do anything remotely related to exercise. I knew I would look silly and it would hurt. I never thought or really cared about the health effects this would have on me, back then.

A year ago after a successful weight loss plan, now at 120 pounds, it is a major difference. I've lost 30 pounds in the first month. The most significant change in my life is the amount of energy I now have and the way my clothes fit loosely. Everyone close to me and people I haven’t seen in a while are amazed and tell me that I look really good. This is a life changing experience for me although at first I was skeptical about the weight loss plan.

(But taking a light exercise every few days is highly recommended). Best of all you can eat what you most enjoyed without gaining any weight The weight loss program is affordable by all and do not need to pay a monthly fees to use it. In contrast to diet pills regime where you need to buy it on a regular basis and the amount of lose weight will reversed back when you stop consuming it.

  15. QUESTION:
Which is more important for weight loss: diet or exercise?
When lose weight, is it better to just eat normal and exercise? Or is it better to go on a low calorie diet and exercise?

I've recently heard that diet isn't neccessarily guarenteed to give you weight loss, but exercise will.

    • ANSWER:
If you choose the right foods without excessive fat content you can eat most anything you want. Portion size is the key along with an exercise program.
I'm a natural competitive bodybuilder and I can tell you 70% of how we end up looking for a show is diet related, 20% of what's done at the gym (although the hardest part physically) and maybe 5% of supplements that work for you. Loosing weight is all about how much goes in Vs. how much goes out. 3500 calories is a pound....proper eating and exercise will work.

  17. QUESTION:
Is it ok to have unsweetened almond milk on a weight loss diet?
I normally have fat free milk which is about 90 calories a cup, 13g carbs and 0g fat. I recently tried un sweetened vanilla flavored almond milk, 40 calories a cup, 2g carbs, 3g fat. It tastes really good too! I was wondering if I can have a cup of it per day on my diet...is taking 3g of fat from this a bad idea? How many grams of fat per day are you supposed to eat on a weight loss diet?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, the almond milk is much better for you. The carbohydrates are what gets converted by your liver into fat that gets stored on your stomach and hips. With this substitution of almond milk for fat free milk, you're getting 11g fewer carbohydrates and the fats that you get will be much healthier for your body than the casein (milk protein) that you would have gotten from the milk. In addition you're skipping all the hormones that are naturally and un-naturally added to the milk. Those hormones cause you to grow and store fat too.

A popular diet for weight loss is Zone diet. It has 30 % calories from proteins, 30 % calories from fats and 40 % calories from carbohydrates. Unfortunately, you didn't give height/weight, so I can't estimate the number of grams, but here's an example:

5' 8" girl is 170 lbs and wants to lose weight. Her starting BMI is 25.9.
If she went down to BMI 22.0 she'd be about 145 lbs. With a bit of light exercise she'd need 2000 calories to maintain her weight at 145, and might need to cut to about 1750 or 1700 calories to lose weight safely at 1 to 2 lbs per week. BMI isn't always right, but it's pretty good for average people who are not professional athletes or body builders. Each gram of fat is worth 9 calories, so when losing weight on 1750 calories x 30 % fats / 9 calories/g = 58 g of fat in diet per day. No more than 10 g should be saturated fats according the the US govt suggested diet.

  20. QUESTION:
Weight loss diet for physically inactive guys?
What is the best weight loss diet for physically inactive guys? I am too busy, shy and lazy to go to gyms and I'd rather eat right or less to loose some weight. Do you know any good diets to loose the weight.

    • ANSWER:
Just eat healthy in all food groups. Eat 3 meals a day. Have enough portion for each meal so you won't get hungry between meals. That's the key. You won't have to completely cut down on snacks either. Just don't stuff yourself with those stuffs. Walking helps big time. If you do this right, you will start seeing some result after 3 months because that's how long it would take to speed up your metabolism. During the first 3 months, you will gain a bit of weight since you will gain muscle weight by walking and possibly other cardio you might do.

Is it bad to eat potatoes when on a weight-loss diet? I always assumed that it's okay to have them as long as they're prepared simply, without oil, just boiled for example.
Will eating them affect weight loss?
    Thanks!

I have heard that potato have carbs which in turn do not help you if you are trying to lose weight, although they are ok to eat if you exercise and eat in moderation. But just keep in mind that everyone is different.

  23. QUESTION:
What is your Atkins diet weight loss story?
I want to know stories of success & failure from those on or previously on the Atkins diet, especially those of you that JUST did the diet and didn't exercise. Also, any tips?

Thanks in advance, 10 points for the best, most informative answer!

    • ANSWER:
Nearly 6 years ago, I started Atkins low carb way of eating to just quit gaining weight. I had to get my out of control appetite under control. I never imagined I could LOSE weight without hunger or exercise, since I've become disabled. I never bothered weighing or measuring til I'd noticed that my clothes got huge quick. When my health improved dramatically also, I knew this was my new way of life and since it's eat all you want (of low carb foods) I know I can do this for life.

My personal carb level is low. I am older & disabled & don't move much (or cook much) but I eat all I want of meats, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, fats, green vegetables, almonds, berries, flax seeds, chia seeds, shirataki noodles and other foods. Someone active would have a MUCH higher carb level & can usually include all fruits, beans, whole grain products but not sugar & highly refined carbs in unlimited amounts. As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories.

Most very overweight people have blood sugar & insulin dysfunctions and can never eat carbs as someone with a functioning body can. They make the mistake of going back to the way of eating that made them fat and that is not possible and yes they will gain all weight back if they eat what they ate that made them obese originally. Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing, in the exact same way and expecting different results.

You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

  25. QUESTION:
What to eliminate from diet for weight loss?
What should i eliminate out of my diet in order to lose the most weight. Any motivational tips?? I am 5ft6in 132lbs, I work out everyday and I havent noticed much weight loss due to my junk food addiction. Any suggestions? What did you do that worked?

    Thanks!
obviously i need to cut out the junk, but what can I replace it with so its satisfying too?

    • ANSWER:
you answered your own question: eliminate the junk food!

you can replace it with these healthy meals: https://shop.tsfl.com/?id=%20&spon_id=30067180

my clients who are on a maintenance/weight loss plan eat regular food and these meal replacements 6x per day, every 2-3 hours. the cheese puffs, pretzel sticks, pudding, bars and brownies seem like junk, but they're actually packed with protein, the right amount of carbs, healthy fats, and 25 vitamins and minerals, all for about 110 calories. And all of the foods have the same nutritional profile - the brownie is just as healthy as the cheese puffs, so you can pick what you like.

They seem expensive at first, but think about how much you spend on junk and how little nutrition you are getting. People who are on the program for weight loss actually save $ because it's redirected, not extra, food dollars. Granola bars from the health food store, which can be equally expensive, are usually nothing more than carbs - oats and sugar or something like that. Seems healthy, but actually not.

it's like giving a dog a vitamin. we're using food that tastes good to give your body nutrition, rather than empty calories in junk.

Uh... 1st of all, stop what you're doing. You're going to kill yourself, PLUS you're shutting your metabolism down. PLUS you're 14, and you're going to royally screw up your growth.

2nd of all, when you come off of this suicide diet of yours, you're going to rebound and be heavier than you were to start with.

And to answer your question, after about 1 week, your water weight will be gone and weight loss will stall (add to that the fact that you're metabolism is going to crash and you've got a big ball of dissappointment on the way)

You don't need to diet, BUT if you're going to lose no more than 1-2 lbs a week or you're losing muscle and you're going to gain all the weight back and then some

It fills your stomach, therefore you will not be as hungry. There's no sugar or unhealthy elements in water, which makes it the perfect drink to fill your stomach with. Also, it helps flush out toxins and other unwanted products that maybe occupying your digestive system.

When dieting, exercise is also important. In that sense, water helps people stay hydrated. This fact cannot be stressed enough. Not only does it help produce sweat, which cools the body down, but during all exercises, muscles are broken and need to be repaired by the body. Water helps this recovery period so staying hydrated is essential.

Does anyone know a quick weight loss diet?
I have to go to this wedding in a couple of months, and want to lose some weight. Is there a diet out there that drops pounds FAST? I have heard of the Size Zero Pill, but don't know how to get it. Any ideas for weight loss? Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
You can Lose 9 lbs every 11 days after you know these facts:

      Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.........
You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.

      Low Calorie Diets DON'T WORK........
You won't lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body's fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt --- known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.

      Low Carb Plans DON'T WORK.......
You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.

In fact, the food that you eat can either make you THIN or FAT!!!

  34. QUESTION:
Will drinking diet soda effect my weight loss diet?
I am 5' 3" And weigh 125 Ib which is mostly in my bottom. If I drink one diet soda a day to fix my sweet craving will it effect my weight loss in a bad way? Also Any good toning exercises and healthy recipes would be appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
Diet soda is a better option (for weight loss) than regular soda. However, diet soda still contains caffeine (unless you opt for Sprite or Sierra Mist) which is a diuretic, so if you are also exercising make sure you are still drinking enough water to keep you adequately hydrated. There is also some controversy over the long term effects of the artificial sweeteners used in diet sodas, but, if you are just drinking one a day you should be okay. As far as toning goes, squats and lunges are great for your bottom, and the best thing is you can do these exercises while moving around your house (or in public if your a bit on the brave side :p ) I haven't tried it out yet but on Better Homes and Garden website they are offering a free weight loss planner. Go to www.bhg.com, then click on food and recipes, on the left hand side click on "My Weight-loss Planner". Hope this helps.

    • ANSWER:
The best diet for losing weight and keeping it off is this 4-step approach to eating:

      1. When you're hungry, eat.
      2. Eat only what you love.
      3. Eat consciously.
      4. When you think you even might be full, stop.

      Here's the explanation:
      1. When your body tells you it's hungry, it's giving you a warning that your metabolism is going to slow down soon. You burn much more calories when you eat small amounts all day every 2 hours or so instead of 1 or 2 large meals. The fattest people I know eat only one big meal at the end of the day. So eat when you're hungry.
      2. You should enjoy eating, it's entertainment. You'll have much more success with a diet if you actually like the foods you eat. Toss out all the diet meals, lowfat and lite crap and replace it with the good stuff.
      3. Be aware of the flavor of every bite. Savor it. Eat slowly, with your eyes closed if necessary. Take reasonable bites, put down your fork or the sandwich between each bite, think about the flavors. Chew each bite at least 25 times. Don't watch TV or read or talk on the phone while you're eating; the food is the entertainment. If you think you love eating, now's your chance to prove it.
      4. As soon as you even suspect you might have had enough, stop eating. Don't worry about being hungry again in half an hour -- if you are, just eat some more!

Bonus tips: walk a little extra today. Then tomorrow, walk a little more than that. Then more, then more. When you feel ready, upgrade to jogging or other active stuff. Everything physical you can do is exercise.

Bonus bonus tip: when you're hungry, always drink water first. Most hunger is actually thirst.

  42. QUESTION:
what is the best weight loss diet?
I want to know what the best weight loss program is. I don't want any shakes, special store bought diets, I mean stuff like Nutri-System and Jenny Craig. The diets that have the food delivered to your door. I want to know if the servings are reasonably sized.

    • ANSWER:
Okay, so it's not about dieting, it's about healthy lifestyle choices. Meaning: eating healthy throughput your life, not only for '2 months'. Snack on fruits and veggies. When you think you are hungry, drink a glass of water, cause sometimes your mind may tell your hungry but, you really are thirsty. Eat slowly, and don't stuff yourself, eat until you 80% full not 100%. Eat smaller portions., and make sure to get all your food groups (fruit/veggies, dairy -low fat-, protein, meat/fish, grain ect.) Eat low fat dairy milk products such as skim milk, and 0% yogurt. exercise daily (run, jog, walk). Drink water, milk, and tea. No juice, soda or milkshakes. Also, cut down on the "white products" such as white rice, white flour, white pasta ect., try whole grain instead. When eating Packaged foods, make sure to read the Nutrition Facts for the amount of sodium, sugar and fat. And make sure they are low in those categories. NAd also, try not to starve youself, because when you do your body takes in any fate it can find and it usually ends up on you rbelly. Hope I helped. And Good Luck with you "Healthy Lifestyle"!

  46. QUESTION:
Is there a good Weight-Loss Diet program for Type I Diabetics?
I am a 23-year-old Type I diabetic, and though not overweight, I would like to lose a few unneeded pounds. As you may know, the use of insulin often negates weight-loss efforts, and I have struggled for some time now to get back to my "ideal" weight. If anyone can recommend a good diet program or even throw out some suggestions of how to combat this problem, it would be greatly appreciated!!

    • ANSWER:
Even type 2s on insulin have a very hard time keeping unwanted pounds off. I was the original skinny minny when the doctor decided I needed to take insulin injections along with my oral meds.

I follow the South Beach phase 2 food plan. I follow it pretty religiously too. and have for the best part of 10 years because it is very low carb and you can tailor it to fit your needs.

Contrary to popular opinion, it and Atkins are NOT high fat or high protein food plans!!! They have sensible serving sizes and the choice of foods is great. You do not HAVE to buy specialty foods on either one.

If you eat sufficient saturated fats and sufficient protein, you will be fuller faster so more sated and not want or need as much of the carb stuff.

This study was with type 2 people, but same works for type 1.

And this is from Livin LaVida Low Carb blog:
      http://livinlavidalocarb.blogspot.com/2007/12/study-low-carb-lowers-low-fat-diet.html

Just count carbs very carefully, medicate only enough, and get movin!!!
