Learn The Fast Way To Lose Weight

Detox Diet

Today is it hard to avoid having toxins and chemicals in our system because of our lifestyles and the environment. However, our bodies are quite remarkable and have been built in such a way as to protect itself from these harmful intruders. Although our kidneys, liver, skin, and even the lungs often need to work a little harder to separate, neutralize, and dispose of these toxins. When toxins accumulate in our body it causes a release of some form of chemical. This can gradually mutate into cancers or other degenerative diseases of the body.

We need to be selective as to what we put into our bodies because we can never take it back. Sometimes changing your lifestyle is the only way you can improve the proper functioning of your body processes. A detox program can be very helpful in getting rid of body impurities. As with any detoxification program, they are designed to flush out free radicals, increase cell renewal, and strengthen your body’s immune system. Ridding your body of toxins will make you feel so much better. Even the 3-day detoxification diet can help in eliminating damaging toxins.

There are many detox diets our there. One must realize that not all detox diet programs are suitable for everyone. A 3-day detox diet just might be wise to start with to test the diet program and it is also a milder way of detoxifying your body. If you are interested in a longer detox program you may want to consult your doctor first before you begin. This is especially important if you are underweight, malnourished or have a chronic disease such as cancer, kidney and liver disease, ulcerative colitis, iron-deficiency, anemia, as well as others. This is always a good idea when considering any type of diet program.

As mentioned above, there are various detox diets, however, the 3-day detox diet is a good quick start program toward detoxification. Each morning for the three days drink a cup of warm water and ½ lemon squeezed in it when you get up. This is to stimulate your gastric juices. Drink the lemon water instead of your usual cup of coffee or tea. When planning your meals for the day you should include one cup of whole grains like brown rice, buckwheat, amaranth, and at least three servings each of fruits and vegetables. One of the servings of vegetables, at least, should be raw vegetables such as carrots, celery, or cauliflower. Choose the vegetables you enjoy. You could also fix yourself a salad made of fruits and vegetables. However, for dressing your salad, use vinegar or any of the natural virgin oils. Natural oils can include olive, coconut virgin oils, or fish oil.

In addition to the changes in your meals you will also need to take two doses of a kidney and liver tonic over the 3-day detox diet period. Not two doses a day. Just two doses over the three days you’re trying to detoxify your body. You can choose from the following kidney and liver tonics: two cups of dandelion, a clove of fresh garlic, chamomile or fennel tea. Other choices include pure vegetable juice like carrot or beetroot, a medium bunch of black grapes, or two cups of parsley or yellow tea. On a daily basis you will need to drink 8 glasses or more of water as well. It’s a good idea to make this a habit anyway. Fresh fruit juices such as apple and orange can be counted as part of your water intake. And lastly, before you go to bed drink a cup of herbal tea. The whole idea is to increase your fluid intake by ingesting more water, juices, fruits, and vegetables to flush out harmful toxins and waste.

As part of your 3-day detox diet be sure to include a 30-minute walk within the program period. Exercise with any diet is ideal for weight loss and improved health. After the third day, you will feel rejuvenated and have more energy and should have dropped a few pounds. You may want to do the 3-day detox diet again either consecutively or the following month. To have better health for the rest of your life, a change of lifestyle is always better than a few days of dieting.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    detox diet?
ok I am planning on going on a detox diet for 3 days, instead of drinking junices and vegetable, I do plan to eat them. I plan to eat fruits salad and vegetable salad, drink soup, water and fruit juices for three days. I know I need to detox becasue I have dark circles, pimples, stomach gas, and bad breath. do u think after going through this diet, this problems i have would be eliminated?

    • ANSWER:
I just finished doing a detox which sounds similar. I only ate fresh fruit and vegetables, beans and legumes and drank heaps of water and green tea. I didn't take all the pills and potions that you get from the health food shop but just ate really good food. I did it for 6 days and felt absolutely fantastic afterwards with heaps of energy. You need to make sure that after doing detox that you do start to eat a wider variety of healthy foods such as fish, chicken, lean red meat and dairy products again. I have managed to keep off the caffeine and alcohol and reduced the amount of red meat I eat and replaced it with fish (although I still do eat red meat a couple of times per week). Not sure if all your problems will be eliminated but it certainly can't hurt and you will feel fantastic...good luck!!!

  2. QUESTION:
    Detox diet?
I'm on day 2 of a detox diet and I am suffering from headaches, nausea and fatigue. Is this normal, why is it happening and how long do you think it will last?
I am only eating fruit and vegetables for a week. From next week I will be allowed meat and other foods.

    • ANSWER:
Sounds like you really needed to detox. Yes, this is normal because all those toxins are being stirred up in your system. Drinking lots of pure water is really important during this time so you will flush this out through your kidneys. How long these symptons last will depend on how many toxins in your system. Everyone is different. But you should begin to feel better in a few days. Try to rest as much as possible in a dark room to help the headache and fatigue. If you don't have to take anything for the headache and nausea you will be better off because you will only be adding more toxins into your system. Hope you feel better soon.

    • ANSWER:

  4. QUESTION:
    DetoX diEt?!?
i want to start a detox diet and i was wondering if anybody new any "drink" recipies of stuff i would already have at home and one that will keep me from being hungry anyone now of any or has tryed one??

    • ANSWER:
"the master cleanse" is the best one out there. made from very basic ingredients.

cleanses your ENTIRE body, and has even been documented to cure diseases.

Worked great for me, but you may feel like total crap for a few days while you detox. its normal, but do it when you dont have work or something. 10 days is the minimum, but most of it, you wont be sick. go to your health foods store and ask them about it, or find the book. its short and cheap, and you wont find a better cleanse out there. it nourishes your entire body, and can even help you quit smoking and craving unhealthy foods.

  5. QUESTION:
How do you start the detox/ water diet?
I've been trying to find out more about the detox diet, but I can't seem to find enough about it online.

    Is anybody on this diet?

Does it really work? I heard that you can lose ALOT of weight in such a really short time! Is that good for your body, considering that you are on a diet?

How do you exactly go about doing this diet? I heard that the diet ranges anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. So what do you have to do and/or take while on the diet?

How much water am i supposed to drink each day?(not including the water in the mixture)

    Can you eat lemons?

Is Cayenne pepper/ginger an essential ingredient or is this just to taste, can you have it without?
I'm not saying that I'm going to give the diet a try. I just want to know more about it before seeing my doctor and/or actually starting the diet.

    • ANSWER:
You don't! Going on any extreme diet like the following can be damaging to your body, just because Hollywood stars do it, it does not mean it is safe!

You have to get that "diet" image out of your head. You need to rather think in terms of "healthy eating", and you need to include resistance training / cardio. There is no easy way out. People are always seeking for the magic pill / forumla that will help them lose the weight but this will lead to failure. If you are planning to lose muscle/water, then I suggest you go on the diet (well not really!), but what I am saying is if you don't care about your health, then by all means go ahead. But if you do, then don't go on it.

I have attached the following link, which explains how you should lose the fat the right way, though it is basic article, it tells nearly everything you should know. Remember anyone can lose a heap of weight in a short period of time, but you have to ask yourself "How much of it was fat?". A majority of the time, the answer would probably be "nearly none".

  6. QUESTION:
What is a good detox diet that i should try without major health risks?
I've looked into the lemon detox and it can apparently make you feel run down and gain wait after it is complete.
I can deal with only drinking liquid i can manage fasting.
Also i am bad with sticking to a diet unless it tells you what to eat and when, like a good guideline roster.
    Thanks
I dont really care if they are a scam thats not the question i asked is it?

    • ANSWER:
Try an all-natural diet. Limit the bad fats and sugars. Going on a fast or "detox" diet isn't going to do your body much good.

  7. QUESTION:
How long does a detox diet take to show results?
k so i just started a detox diet yesterday...today sucks...i woke up with stomach cramps, and i had diarrhea.yuck.....i feel really tired and weird...i know this is your body cleaning itself out but how long does this last? and i was wondering how long it takes to see results from a detox diet? Anyone who has been through one? any tips???

    my diet consists of:
green tea(no sugar, no anything, just the tea)
    fruits,
    vegetables and,
    lots and lots of water.

i will be doing this diet for 1 month.

    • ANSWER:
Fad diets, starvation diets, fasting, and diet pills do not work. Any diet that is temporary will only produce results that are temporary at best.

Losing fat any faster than about 4 lbs a week is impossible. Any additional weight you might lose would either be water weight, or your muscle atrophying.

The only way to lose fat is a complete lifestyle change where you stop doing what made you obese in the first place and adopt healthy eating and exercise habits for the rest of your life.

Detox pills, and detoxification and cleansing in general, are neither useful nor necessary unless you have had long-term narcotic use or are chronically constipated. Detoxification and cleansing has no proven medical benefits for the average person whatsoever. It will NOT help you lose any significant amount of fat. Your intestines are clean unless you use large amounts of muscle relaxers, or have serious digestive illness.

  8. QUESTION:
where can i find some detox diet recipe?
my husband and i are planning to detox diet for a week. but i cant seem to find any recipes online.

    • ANSWER:
http://www.living-foods.com/recipes/ has a great site that you can pick many recipes off of. I just completed a two week detox and this site was a blessing. Remember, no wheat, dairy, meat, caffeine or citrus fruit.

  9. QUESTION:
How does a diet detox make you feel? How extreme should it be?
I've found several detox diets, ranging from a week to three months, and from all fruits and vegtables, to only certain ones and salt water. I was wondering if anyone has been on a detox diet before, which kind it was, and how it made you feel. Feedback? Suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
you outline one problem with detox diets; there are about a million of them (I exaggerate a bit).

What are your goals? For a simple detox, your goals should be to eliminate the toxins that are residual in your body (such as insecticide, herbacide biproducts, addatives, formaldehyde constituents, animal hormones, antibiotics, etc.)

That being said, you don't need anything very severe. What I recommend for the majority of my patients is the Whole Food Farmacy detox. It's a modest 13 days, includes essentially everything needed, and is achieving great results. Many people have the added goal of weight loss, and the average case I've had loses weight.

I'd be happy to answer any more specific questions you might have with detox diets. I will say, some are simply alarming and downright dangerous. So do be careful!

  10. QUESTION:
Does the lemon detox diet actually work?
I am 135 pounds and I want to lose 30 pounds really quickly to look good for an event which is in a month. I want to try the lemon detox diet but before I do so, I need to know if it is worth it. Will it help me lose weight quickly? I don't need people telling me to eat properly and exercise, I already do! I go to the gym and eat healthy. I would like answers from people with experience, who've already tried the lemon detox diet.

    • ANSWER:
I've done it multiple times, starting when I was 17. I did it for the last time about 18 months ago. Keeping in mind that it is a diet to detoxify the body. It is not a diet for permanent weight loss. The diet does result in very rapid weight loss, but that weight lost is mostly from water the body retains to process food, alcohol, etc. A small percentage comes from waste materials in the body. However, once you end the diet (it can only be sustained up to 3 weeks), you will start retaining water again and you're weight will go back to where it was. It's not that the diet doesn't work. It's just not intended for permanent weight loss.

I have tried many different diets over the years to reduce my body fat percentage. The best piece of advice I have been given about diets is "Never do a diet with a name". Also, don't think of dieting as a temporary thing you do to lose weight. A diet simply means what you eat. It doesn't mean weight loss. Someone could eat 2 boxes of Crispy Creams and a case of beer and still be on a diet, although not a healthy one. The best thing you can do to loose weight is to learn some of the basic rules of nutrition and follow them. The best (and one of the shortest) books I've seen is "Food Rules: An Eater's Manual" by Michael Pollan. You can find it on Amazon for less than .

  11. QUESTION:
How can a do a detox diet at home by myself?
Anyone who had done a detox diet, tell me about it. Did you notice changes?

    • ANSWER:
if you eliminate all processed foods and simply eat fresh, preferably organic, fruits, veggies, and meat/eggs then your body will restore to its default settings(so to speak) and you will start cleansing.

deeper cleansing involves abstaining from solid food and drinking only fresh organic juice(you would need your own juicer for this). remember: 1 glass of fruit for every 2 glasses of veggie juice.

the deepest would be fasting from all calories. you would eat nothing and drink only water. 1 cup of purified for every 3 cups of distilled.

if you cleanse in this order i would do the natural food diet for 3-4 weeks. then juice cleanse for 3-4 days. return to your natural food diet for another 6 weeks. then water fast for 3-4 days.

if you do this you will feel awesome, lose weight, and look the best you ever have.

if you're serious you can email me with any questions and i will try to help you out

  15. QUESTION:
What does the lemonade detox diet involve?
Basically, I want to do the lemonade diet - I think. I have a vague idea of what it involves but I'm unsure about how to make the lemonade. Also can I eat any other foods while I'm on the detox and if so, what are they?
P.S. I appreciate all the comments warning me about how bad fad diets are. But I'm not doing it for weightloss, I'm thin. I've heard that flushing toxins out of your system has other benefits.

    • ANSWER:
fad diets. So bad for you. Why don't you just lose weight the healthy way? Eat healthy lots of veggies, lots of water, cut your sugar intake, watch your fat intake! Exercise!! do 3 30 min cardio, and 2 strenght training sessions a week to get your muscles strong. that will boost your metabolism. I know that isn't what you wanted to know but doing this lemonade diet isn't going to work. You might drop some weight (probably water not fat.) but once you get off the diet your body will gain it all back.

  16. QUESTION:
Does a detox diet help to kickstart a weight loss program?
Would anyone recommend or comment on a cleansing/detox diet they've done.

    • ANSWER:
I did a 3 day detox last year. It was tough but totally worth it. You may have seen it on the internet, it's called the master cleanse. First you will need a gallon of distilled water, 2 lemons, 2 table spoons of cayenne peper and 2 teaspoons of grade B pure maple syrup. Distilled water, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice are great for leaching out impurities from your system. When you detox, you also eliminate the good too, vitamins and minerals. Believe it or not, the grade B maple syrup is high in vitamins and minerals and it makes the drink a little more tolerable.

The first day is by far the toughest. You'll be cranky, annoyed, irritable, lonely and tired... HANG IN THERE!!! The next day you'll start feeling the effects and you'll be happy. Sometime in the afternoon, your head will start clearing out and you'll have more energy. The third day will be even better. Every once in a while you'll go through little irritable, foggy head phase, but that will pass.

When you are done you'll be a little weak but in a day or two, you'll be back and better than ever. Really just as important as doing the fast, is putting good things in your body afterwards.

      Good luck!!!!

  17. QUESTION:

I'm planning to do a detox diet for three days-starting tomorrow- I've been gtying bad rwally bad acne and I would lioe to get rid of it or reduce it....what fruits and vegetable should I eat the most? Thanks in advanced

    • ANSWER:
Lemons are really good for your skin and your body in general.

I do a lemonade detox every 3-4 months and my skin always feels better afterward for at least a week or two. You can also do lemon based face peels and face masks to help clear your skin.

  18. QUESTION:
Is the lemon detox diet suppose to taste bad and make you feel sick?
I'm trying this lemon detox diet but it tastes so nasty. Is it suppose to taste this bad because it makes me feel sick.

    • ANSWER:
Are you talking about the Lemonade Diet also called the Master Cleanse? If so, are you talking about the lemonade drink? If so, are you putting enough of the sweetener in it - honey or maple syrup? It should taste sorta like lemonade.

  19. QUESTION:
Can you combine lemon detox ingredients with a normal diet to lose weight?
I'm 17, 125lbs (57kg) and 5'7. I want to lose weight, but since I live with parents at home with cooked meals etc, making healthier choices at mealtimes is mostly out of my hands. And I can hardly not eat anything and go on the lemon detox diet for 3 days.

So will drinking each day something like half cup water, half cup squeezed lemon juice, and a teaspoon of cayenne pepper help me? Is its effect minimal and not worth it?

    • ANSWER:
I'm in the same boat! I've decided to eat more in the mornings, less in the evenings, I pretty much have stopped eating after 5pm and begin to drink the lemon detox every time I get hungry. I try to eat a lot of fiber rich food in the mornings, fruits, veggies, and little carbs! Plus, during the day I spread out little portions of food so I'm never really hungry, and along with the lemon drink, i drink fruit juice as well, or snack on a handful of cheerios, just drink a lot of water so your body can get ride of the water weight, I divide my weight in half and that is the amount of ounce of water i need to drink a day. I've been only doing this for about a week, but feel better. You can do it!

    • ANSWER:

    • ANSWER:
your filtering organs work perfectly fine when it comes to detoxing the body... "detox diets" are bs.

eat meat, fish, fruits and vegetables and stay away from grains, dairy and sugar. your body will start to go into ketosis and burn fat

  22. QUESTION:
Can you use lemon juice for lemon detox diet?
I've been interested in trying the "master cleanse" lemon detox diet. There seems to be a consensus that lemons have to be fresh squeezed and not from concentrate, or the detox effects will not be present. However, I was wondering if organic lemon juice would provide the same results? Also, any personal tips/experience anyone has with the diet would be helpful. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
You are really just looking at a painful and drawn out way to empty your entire digestive tract.
The lemon detox/master cleanse diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose weight on this diet. The average adult American has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose around 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system.
So it does work. but it does not change your size. Pour the soda out of a bottle and the shape of the bottle doesn't change does it? Once you start eating again you just replace all the missing food in the system.
The signal these starvation diets send the body is that there is no more food available. The body immediately stores any fat it can and begins to convert muscle and even organ tissue first for fuel instead of the stored fat. Stored fat will be used as a last resort when needed. The complete opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.
There is no build up of bad plaque, toxins, or sludge in a normal, reasonably healthy system.
If this was the case we would have people dying left and right from malnutrition since their small intestines couldn't absorb nutrients.
The majority of the water from food and what we drink is reabsorbed through the colon, if our colons were clogged we would all be walking around looking like sponges right?
Detoxing is ridding the system - liver, kidneys, and intestines of toxins both internal and environmental. Our liver and kidneys aren't clogged with toxins. Otherwise we would be dead. The liver does in fact get layered with fat if we become overweight.
Additionally, many toxins are stored in our fat cells so in order to truly "detox", you need to lose excess body fat as well.
We "cleanse and detox" naturally 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be.
      Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda.
Read food labels. If you can't pronounce it, don't put it in your body.
A healthy high fiber diet works every time.
Increases the speed and efficiency of the digestive system and helps the body rid itself of both internal and environmental toxins.
Cleanses actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
Search "gut flora" to learn about the beneficial bacteria we need in our colon.
We have more beneficial bacteria in our digestive systems than all the cells in our bodies!
Did you know the digestive system is one of the largest contributors to our immune system?
They don't tell you about the gas, cramping, and bloating you will experience when you start eating again and the body has to rebuild this bacteria population.
Spend your money in the produce department.
      Good luck.

  23. QUESTION:
What ingredients are in the lemon detox diet?
has anyone tried this diet? or do you have any good detox diets that aren't quite so extreme?

    • ANSWER:
i haven't been on it, but i think it's similar to the master cleanse, which i have been on. for this one you needed lemons, sea salt, grade B maple syrup, filtered water and cayenne pepper, you could also add a non caffine herbal tea.
pretty much you just drink the stuff whenever you feel hungry, though i ate some fruit on some days and i still lost 4kgs in 2 weeks.

another cleanse type diet is the Ph miracle, im not too sure about this though, but its less strict in some ways.

  24. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:

  26. QUESTION:
how long should i do my first detox diet?
I am doing a detox diet that consists of limiting some foods, lemon water, detoxifying tea once daily and a colon detox pill each day. How long should I do this diet?

This is my first time to do a detox diet and I have been doing it for three days so far. I'm used to eating pretty healthy and organic, so my only side effects have been a little bit of an acne outbreak and my breath is a little more foul in the mornings than it usually is.

Also, what should I do after I have cleansed the colon? Is it okay to start doing the detox baths at that point or should I take a rest?

    • ANSWER:
Take at look at the Dos and Donts of fasting, the Natural Cure. Take care not to fast more than 7 days in a row.

The common cause of all diseases is the accumulation of waste and poisonous matter in the body which results from overeating. The majority of persons eat too much and follow sedentary occupations which do not permit sufficient and proper exercise for utilisation of this large quantity of food. This surplus overburdens the digestive and assimilative organs and clogs up the system with impurities or poisons. Digestion and elimination become slow and the functional activity of the whole system gets deranged.

The onset of disease is merely the process of ridding the system of these impurities. Every disease can be healed by only one remedy-by doing just the opposite of what causes it, i.e., by reducing the food intake or fasting.

By depriving the body of food for a time, the organs of elimination such as the bowels, kidneys, skin, and lungs are given opportunity to expel, unhampered, the overload of accumulated waste from the system. Thus, fasting is merely the process of purification and an effective and quick method of cure. It assists nature in her continuous effort to expel foreign matter and disease producing waste from the body, thereby correcting the faults of improper diet and wrong living. It also leads to regeneration of the blood as well as the repair and regeneration of the various tissues of the body.

      Duration
The duration of the fast depends upon the age of the patient, the nature of the disease and the amount and type of drugs previously used. The duration is important, because long periods of fasting can be dangerous if undertaken without competent professional guidance. It is, therefore, advisable to undertake a series of short fasts of two to three days and gradually increase the duration of each succeeding fast by a day or so. The period, however, should not exceed a week of total fasting at a time. This will enable the chronically sick body to gradually and slowly eliminate toxic waste matter without seriously affecting the natural functioning of the body. A correct mode of living and a balanced diet after the fast will restore vigour and vitality to the individual.

Fasting is highly beneficial in practically all kinds of stomach and intestinal disorders and in serious conditions of the kidneys and liver. It is a miracle cure for eczema and other skin diseases and offers the only hope of permanent cure in many cases. The various nervous disorders also respond favourably to this mode of treatment.

Fasting should, however, not be restored to in every illness. In cases of diabetes, advanced stages of tuberculosis, and extreme cases of neurasthenia, long fasts will be harmful. In most cases, however, no harm will accrue to fasting patients, provided they take rest, and are under proper professional care.

      Methods
The best, safest and most effective method of fasting is juice fasting. Although the old classic form of fasting was a pure water fast, most of the leading authorities on fasting today agree that juice fasting is far superior to a water fast. According to Dr. Rangar Berg, the world -famous authority on nutrition, "During fasting the body burns up and excretes huge amounts of accumulated wastes. We can help this cleansing process by drinking alkaline juice instead of water while fasting ... Elimination of uric acid and other inorganic acids will be accelerated….. And sugars in juices will strengthen the heart... juice fasting is, therefore, the best form of fasting. " Vitamins, minerals, enzymes and trace elements in fresh, raw vegetable and fruit juices are extremely beneficial in normalising all the body processes. They supply essential elements for the body’s own healing activity and cell regeneration and thus speeding the recovery. All juices should be prepared from fresh fruit immediately before drinking. Canned or frozen juices should not be used.

A precautionary measure which must be observed in all cases of fasting is the complete emptying of the bowels at the beginning of the fast by enema so that the patient is not bothered by gas or decomposing matter formed from the excrements remaining in the body. Enemas should be administered at least every alternate day during the fasting period. The patient should get as much fresh air as possible and should drink plain lukewarm water when thirsty. Fresh juices may be diluted with pure water. The total liquid intake should be approximately six to eight glasses.

A lot of energy is spent during the fast in the process of eliminating accumulated poisons and toxic waste materials. It is, therefore, of utmost importance that the patients get as much physical rest and mental relaxation as possible during the fast. In cases of fasts in which fruit juices are taken, especially when fresh grapes, oranges or grapefruit are used exclusively, the toxic wastes enter the blood -stream rapidly, resulting in an overload of toxic matter, which affects normal bodily functions. This often results in dizzy spells, followed by diarrhoea and vomiting. If this physical reaction persists, it is advisable to discontinue the fast and take cooked vegetables containing adequate roughage such as spinach and beets until the body functioning returns to normal.

The overweight person finds it much easier to go without food. Loss of weight causes no fear and the patient’s attitude makes fasting almost a pleasure. The first day’s hunger pangs are perhaps the most difficult to bear. The craving for food will, however, gradually decrease as the fast progresses. Seriously sick persons have no desire for food and fasting comes naturally to them. The simple rule is to stop eating until the appetite returns or until one feels completely well.

Only very simple exercises like short walks may be undertaken during the fast. A warm water or neutral bath may be taken during the period. Cold baths are not advisable. Sun and air baths should be taken daily. Fasting sometimes produces a state of sleeplessness which can be overcome by a warm tub bath, hot water bottles at the feet and by drinking one or two glasses of hot water.

Benefits: There are several benefit of fasting. During a long fast, the body feeds upon its reserves. Being deprived of needed nutrients, particularly of protein and fats, it will burn and digest its own tissues by the process of autolysis or self-digestion. But it will not do so indiscriminately. The body will first decompose and burn those cells and tissues which are diseased, damaged, aged or dead. The essential tissues and vital organs, the glands, the nervous system and the brain are not damaged or digested in fasting. Here lies the secret of the effectiveness of fasting as a curative and rejuvenative method. During fasting, the building of new and healthy cells are speeded up by the amino acids released from the diseased cells. The capacity of the eliminative organs, that is, lungs, liver, kidneys, and the skin is greatly increased, as they are relieved of the usual burden of digesting food and eliminating the resultant wastes. They are, therefore, able to quickly expel old accumulated wastes and toxins.

Fasting affords a physiological rest to the digestive, assimilative and protective organs. As a result, the digestion of food and the utilisation of nutrients is greatly improved after fasting. The fast also exerts a normalising, stablising, and rejuvenating effect on all the vital physiological, nervous and mental functions.

Breaking of Fast: The success of the fast depends largely on how it is broken. his is the most significant phase. The main rules for breaking the fast are: do not overeat, eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly; and take several days for the gradual change to the normal diet. If the transition to eating solid foods is carefully planned, there will be no discomfort or damage. The patient should also continue to take rest during the transition period. The right food after a fast is as important and decisive for proper results as the fast itself.

      Good Luck.

Is there such thing is a Tomato Soup Detox diet?
My cousin who is a personal trainer suggested that i do this "Detox Diet" prior to starting workout sessions with him. He says that i need to eat Tomato Soup for four days, so that my body will be cleansed and i will lose some weight prior to working out with him. How valid is this? Does anyone have any opinions?

    • ANSWER:
Detox diets are basically bogus. Your body has its own detox system, liver and kidneys. If you stop putting junk into your system the body will cleanse itself. The best thing about this one is that you aren't required to buy some miracle product at 1000% markup, and it isn't going to harm you.

Of course you'll lose weight if you eat nothing but tomato soup for 4 days.
Not many calories and lots of water.

And find out what qualifies your cousin as a "personal trainer". Is he certified by the state? Has he completed accredited courses?

  31. QUESTION:
How do I start a detox diet?
Ive been thinking of going on a detox diet to rid my body of toxins. Im 17 and weigh 107. I want to do a 7 day liquid detox diet...but since im so small will this hurt me? Im already a vegetarian so I already dont eat meats.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Jessica

You need to be really careful following a pure liquid detox. Your body can very quickly lose some important nutrients and can open your body's immune system to infections.

The body is able to rid itself of toxins through the liver, kidneys and skin, if you follow a diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables and whole grains also drinking enough water - avoid all processed foods, sugar, stimulants, and alcohol. This is usually thought to be the best type of body cleansing as you get the necessary nutrients.

      Whatever you do take care!

  32. QUESTION:
Has anybody tried the lemon detox diet and does it work?
I am curious if the lemon detox diet is worth considering.

    • ANSWER:
The lemon detox or master cleanse/starvation diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose a few pounds but when you start eating again you will probably gain more weight. You will lose weight on this diet. The average adult American has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose around 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system.
So you will lose weight but it does not change your size. Pour the soda out of a bottle and the shape of the bottle doesn't change does it?
Once you start eating again you just replace all the missing food in the system. The signal these starvation diets send the body is that there is no more food available.
The body immediately stores any fat it can and begins to burn muscle mass for fuel instead of the stored fat (metabolism).
The liver does in fact get layered with fat when we become overweight.
      Good luck.

    • ANSWER:
The master cleanse or lemon detox diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You WILL lose weight on this diet. But understand, the only weight you will lose is emptying the digestive system of several days worth of food. Depending on how healthy or unhealthy you are this can add up to 10 pounds or more. Little if any of it will be body fat weight. You will not change your size!
The signal these starvation diets send the body is that there is no more food available.
The body immediately stores any fat it can and begins to burn muscle mass for fuel instead of the stored fat (metabolism). Stored fat will be used as a last resort when needed.
When you start eating again the body immediately stores any food as fat because it doesn't know when the next famine is coming. You really don't detox since a substantial portion of the toxins in the body are stored in fat cells. So if you don't lose the fat, you don't lose the toxins.
The complete opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.
There is no build up of bad plaque, toxins, or sludge in a normal, reasonably healthy system.
If this was the case we would have people dying left and right from malnutrition since their small intestines couldn't absorb nutrients.

How to go out on a detox diet?
Im gonna start a detox diet, just for a month and see how i feel but during that month, there is a work party (well, someone is leaving to have a baby) its something i cant get out of and im wondering how can i stay on detox while eating at a restaurant? I really don't wanna look stupid but i don't want to break the diet.
Please dont leave messages against doing it, i just want advice.

    • ANSWER:
Detox pills, and detoxification and cleansing in general, are neither useful nor necessary unless you have had long-term narcotic use or are chronically constipated. Detoxification and cleansing has no proven medical benefits for the average person whatsoever. It will NOT help you lose any significant amount of fat.

  39. QUESTION:
Are you allowed to chew gum on a detox diet?
I'm planning on starting a 1-2 week detox diet tomorrow where i only eat fresh fruits and veggies and drink water, but i'm a chewing gum addict, so i was wondering if i can still chew gum while on this diet?

    • ANSWER:
Unless your gum says "100% organic ingredients" and is made of real chicle -- not the synthetic rubber used in almost all chewing gums -- perhaps it would be better to avoid chewing it. Instead, buy good chewing gum off the net -- stuff made from chicle. Or you could buy a coconut or some oat groats. Both of those things will keep you chewing for an hour per mouthful.

      Hope this helps.

  40. QUESTION:
Would there be any benefit of doing a 1 day detox diet of just eating fruit and drinking juices and water?
Would there be any benefit of doing a 1 day detox diet of just eating fruit and drinking juices and water?

    • ANSWER:
To tell you the truth, the only good that will come out of a one day detox diet of only eating fruit, eating drinks and water is that you'll probably end up being really hungry and/or sick and that the next day or night, you'll eat too much and maybe gain a little weight. I suggest that (if you want to lose weight) you try a longer eating regime for like a month or two and see how much better results you can achieve as well as how much better you could feel! I suggest you trying Xenical because it works much better than other diet pills like the Acai Berry!

  43. QUESTION:
I am doing the Master Cleanse detox diet. Will adding natural, sugar-free packets to my water affect the diet?
I am anemic. Will taking my iron supplement affect the detox process or weight loss?

Please share any tips that you may have concerning this diet. I am on day 4.

    • ANSWER:
Detox is a myth and the basic principle behind the Master Cleanse is a detoxification fast.
But he body and the colon are self cleansing.
If your doctor has prescribed the iron and it does not upset your already irritated stomach lining, take it.
The sugar free packets won't affect anything. As you are anaemic think again about continuing the cleanse.

"Not only is this program hard to follow, and the drink hard to swallow, it is potentially dangerous as well. You are inhibiting your immune system, as well as your ability to process food.

Purposefully irritating your gastro-intestinal tract is never a good idea, but salt water flushing actually removes healthy, helpful bacteria from the lining of your colon. By engaging in this practice for an extended period of time, you are effectively wiping out one of your first lines of defense against infection and sickness.

In addition, prolonged fasting has many negative side effects, including all the symptoms that go along with malnutrition: insomnia, cravings, nausea, depressed mood, hair loss... the list goes on. Proponants of the Master Cleanse will tell you that these are signs that the toxins in your body are being eliminated, but you would experience the same symptoms on a water-only fast."

  44. QUESTION:
Can you subsitute lemon juice from the bottle for the lemons in the lemon detox diet?
Goin on a diet but every where i go the lemon r nasty so thats where the lemomn juice comes in. Also whats in the lemon detox diet. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Use only fresh organic lemons and not concentrated lemon juice. Organic fruits are not grown by chemical fertilizers and not sprayed with pesticides therefore they are chemical free. Bottled or canned lemon juice contains sugar and other preservatives which are some of the sources of toxicity levels in your system therefore stay away from them.

  48. QUESTION:
What is the best home made detox diet to try?
I want to lose some weight and i heard detox diets are a good start to kick off. I just need maybe like a laid out plan of the first week and go from there.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Lorenzo,

Be warned, the first day of this plan will be tough but if you stick with the strict fruit juice and yoghurt regime, it will kick start your detox. After that, the calorie intake for each day varies, from 800 calories on day 4, the special rice day, to 1300 calories on day 6. This carefully controlled low-fat, low-calorie diet will ensure you lose weight while the high concentration of fruit and veg will flood your system with vitamins and minerals. The result will be glowing skin and a lighter you!

The large quantity of fruit and veg needed could be expensive and some of the meals are time consuming to prepare. This diet is probably best done during a week when you're not working as you might get a headache due to the detoxification process.

If you think you can manage this process well enough, then try to follow the details as below :

      Day 1: 600 calories
      ----------------------------
This is a fasting day. Drink loads of water and herbal teas throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal are the same: 1 glass of unsweetened fruit or salt-free vegetable juice plus a carton of natural live yoghurt.
Try to start this diet on a non-working, quiet day and don't worry, it does get easier!

      Day 2: 1200 calories
      -----------------------------
      Breakfast:
This is the standard breakfast you'll eat for the rest of the week. 1 portion fresh fruit (vary throughout the week between apple, pear, mango, grapes, pineapple, grapefruit), 2 slices of wholemeal toast spread with low fat cottage cheese, a carton of low-fat live yoghurt, a small glass of skimmed milk and a cup of herb or weak Indian tea without milk or sugar.

      Lunch:
1 kiwi fruit, a mixed raw vegetable salad (a bed of iceberg lettuce, filled with grated carrot, celeriac and beetroot, with a squeeze of lemon juice and a drizzle of olive oil) plus 150g (6oz) of any steamed vegetables, sprinkled with a chopped clove of garlic and a drizzle of olive oil. Herb or weak Indian tea.

      Dinner:
50g (2 oz) blueberries and 100g (4oz) unsweetened muesli mixed with a tablespoon of orange juice and a carton of low fat live yoghurt. Herb or weak Indian tea.

      Day 3: 1100 calories
      ------------------------------
      Breakfast:
      As on day 2.

today is the first day on the lemon detox diet and I'm wondering if I am able to drink coffee. I have not read anything that says either way.

I think you are supposed to be "detoxing" from caffeine! So I would say NO to coffee. Just my opinion though.

  50. QUESTION:
Where can I find a good Detox Diet and workout schedule for a competitive swimmer?
I am completely out of shape and unhealthy, and recently I heard Detox Diets can help.
However, I have looked for a good one and a good workout schedule, but have found none. Can anyone help?

    • ANSWER:
I would suggest a cleansing diet. I lost 12 pounds in 9 days and then 28 pounds in less than a month. I also lost a lot of inches too! I learned that cleansing will help the body get rid of impurities. Impurities come from a lot of things like fast food, pollution, food additives and preservatives and lots of other things. The impurities get stored in the fat in our body. To get rid of the fat, we have to get rid of the impurities by cleansing the body. This made sense to me and I decided to try a cleanse program and it worked. The weight came off fast and this kept me motivated to keep going, not like other diets where the weight loss it too slow. I did Jenny Craig, Weight Watcher and Medifast. If you want to learn more call the toll free number 1-877-587-4647 or check out the website. This was the first time I ever did a cleanse, it was easy and I feel better. Good luck whatever you decide to do! http://diet4cleansing.com
