      I'm sorry, but what you are looking for does not exist. The only thing that comes close to providing weight loss without the work is Alli, which essentially makes you not absorb all the dietary fat you consume. This is still recommended with diet and exercise for maximum results. There is phentermine, which is a prescription drug for obese people which effectively suppresses your appetite. This is by prescription only and is an amphetamine (which can be addictive). Really the only thing that can alter your metabolism is synthroid, which is for people with hypothyroidsim, which I am guessing you don't have. If there were a magic pill to take, then everyone would be thin and over 60% of Americans wouldn't be overweight.

      Also, dietary supplements (except Alli) are not FDA approved, so technically no one is governing them. In that case, I wouldn't consider any to really be safe. Remember Ephedra? Sometimes things that are FDA approved are not even safe. Remember Phen-Fen?

      Nearly 7 years ago, I started Atkins low carb way of eating to just quit gaining weight. I had to get my out of control appetite under control. I never imagined I could LOSE weight without hunger or exercise, since I've become disabled. I never bothered weighing or measuring til I'd noticed that my clothes got huge quick. When my health improved dramatically also, I knew this was my new way of life and since it's eat all you want (of low carb foods) I know I can do this for life.

      My personal carb level is low. I am older & disabled & don't move much (or cook much) but I eat all I want of meats, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, fats, green vegetables, almonds, berries, flax seeds, chia seeds, shirataki noodles and other foods. Someone active would have a MUCH higher carb level & can usually include all fruits, beans, whole grain products but not sugar & highly refined carbs in unlimited amounts. As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories.

      Most overweight & obese people have blood sugar & insulin dysfunctions and can NEVER eat carbs as someone with a functioning body can. They make the mistake of going back to the way of eating that made them fat and that is not possible and yes they will gain all weight back if they eat what they ate that made them obese originally. Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing, in the exact same way and expecting different results. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

      You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

      The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

      Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

      The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

      Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

      The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

      It takes about 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

      Carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans) trigger insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone). Protein triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon..

      High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.

      Ground flax seed (4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min. for daily fiber needs.

    I am currently breastfeeding, and have been since my daughter was born (almost five months). I seem to have hit a wall with that as a weight loss method. One fellow went from size 48 to 38 pants, stopped taking BP medication and stopped taking diabetes medication. Ate eggs and bacon for breakfast and life was good. I just had trouble holding to the diet. In time I gained the weight back. After the yo-yo dieting and radical eating soups and such, I started to do the common sense diet.
      I found something that works and I plan to write a book on it. In the mean time I am will to share this much. The more your bowels work the better you will feel. Turn your diet into a high fiber diet and the more you eat the more you will loose. I find that “Total” raisin Bran will speed your digestion. So eat two or three bowel per day. Salads of fresh veggies will help as well. Yes, use dressing of some type and you need fats. Whole milk, (have documentation to prove it). And Metamucil in the mornin and after noon will help clean your bowels and keep you going. In time you will be able ot eat most any thing you like (as long as it makes you poop) and eat all you like. Things like steak with fat and good cuts of meat. Stay away from burgers and processed foods. Chicken meat and good cuts of pork are OK.
      If you snack at night eat the Raisin bran and it will move you in the morning. No white bread, high grain breads are OK.
      You need to eat 5 or 6 times per day. From early morning on. Eat small meals and in the am add fresh fruits.
      I promise you will loose weight and in time start feeling much better. I have given this info to many people and all have lost weight,. None have had medical problems from it.

    my mom gave me these two bottles of vitamins for help in weight loss. i was just reading up on them, but one article said to not eat anything for 10 days and only take cayenne pepper tablets and drink lemonade? i could never do that, so if that's the only way for those to work i'm not going to even try them.
    the other ones i have are equate weight conscious. those dont sound as beneficial or helpful as the cayenne pepper tablets do, but if they help you lose weight faster then i would do it.

    i work out 3-5 times a week and the days i dont work out i clean my house which is an equivalent to working out for me.

    Do fat burning supplements ( herbal and natural) really work?
    I often see supplements that supposedly rev up the metabolism in the drug stores. I have also heard of products such as apple cider vinegar and also others-ALA in certain dosages, etc., being effective in weight loss. I'd like to know if anyone has direct experience with taking these supplements and what the outcome was.
    Polite, sincere, constructive answers only please. (For those of you who are going to recommend diet and exercise, I agree that this is the best way to approch weight loss.) However, I am asking specifically about these supplements because I would like to know only about these supplements and if they work, or not as the case may be.

      Yes, they work quite well... but you have to do your homework to avoid going for the hype.
      You already know that diet and exercise is required to get the benefits (which is very good), so I won't cover that, but make sure you look at the ingredients on any of the products first. Chromium will help with metabolism, but be careful if you have any problems with blood sugar, as it can throw blood sugar off (it can be too much support for blood sugar health). L-Carnitine and CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) are good for metabolism and burning fat as well when used with exercise, so those are big ones to look for.
      Apple Cider Vinegar on the other hand is a good cleanser... it doesn't directly impact your metabolism or weight loss, but it helps a little indirectly. Alpha Lipoic Acid is a great antioxidant, but it also doesn't help directly for weight loss (only indirectly).
      Those are just a couple examples, so keep an eye out and read over and check the ingredients before you buy any of them... that'll give the best boost to your diet and exercise regimen you've set up. Congratulations on wanting to better yourself and good luck!

    Thank you all for reading this question and taking the time to answer. My question is I am trying to lose about 40 lbs of fat and get into shape for military ( reserve) boot camp by May 2010. I am 5'7 and I weight about 217lbs( lost 10 lbs) in past three weeks. I have started to exercise daily and here is my program. Every gym sessions lasts about 2 hours.
    Mon- Chest and triceps ( 4 sets and min 6-8 reps per exercise) + 1 Hour Cardio ( ski machine - heart rate about 150)
    Tues- Back and biceps ( same as above) + 1 Hour cardio ( same as above)
    Wed- Legs+ 1 Hour cardio( same as above)
    Thurs- Shoulders( 4 sets min 6-8 reps per exercise) + 1 hour cardio ( ski machine)
    Fri- Back ( 4 sets min 6-8 reps per exercise) + 1 Hour cardio( ski machine heart rate 150).
    Sat - rest Cardio only 1 hour ( heart rate 150)
    Sun- no exercise.
    Sleep- 6- 8 hours but sometimes hard because working two jobs and hours are crazy, but trying my best.

    Diet- High protein, low healthy carbs ( oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, just before working out) + supplements ( vitamins), and only water to drink, maybe one coffee to get me up in the morning. Meals are about six meals a day ( ie)
    Monday- breakfast - salmon burger(2) egg whites(2) bottle of water,coffee (black), small portion of walnuts
    snack( 4 hours later) break bar known as Cliff bar+ water
    Lunch: Grilled Lamb+ whole wheat pasta or my favorite bowl of Oatmeal with blueberries and skim milk+_water.
    ( carbs only before workout and never before sleep)
    snack ( after gym) Break bar or protein shake+ water
    Dinner: Grilled turkey or my favorite salmon steaks( only steamed, baked or grilled)
    Now my questions are I know this can be improved on? I only did this because this a plan I use to use when I studied Judo, and it did help. But that was 20 years ago, and things have changed. Ultimate goal is a weight around 170 and BMI less than 20%, since military chart says I am overwieght. If anyone has any comments of any help with this program which could speed up my weight loss, that would be greatly appreciated. Please no special weight loss drinks that only screw with your metabolism, all natural all the way, PLEASE. Thank you all in advance, for your help.

      Your current program has nothing for core / abs. You need to exercise this if you want to avoid chronic conditions such as back problems.

      Doing 6-8 reps per set for an exercise is for increasing strength, and not for weight loss. What you should be looking at is between 15 and 20 reps per set, with a weight that will make the 20th rep almost impossible to lift.

      Also, since you're training for weight loss, you don't need to stagger your body parts over 5 days. Do Chest and back on day 1, shoulders and core on day 2, and legs and arms (biceps and triceps) on day 3.

      Remember to do a short warm up and stretch routine before you start with the weights, and do your cardio after wards. Try and get a bit of variation into your cardio, as doing the same thing every day will cause you to lose effectiveness. Use the treadmill, stationary bike, etc as well.

      Do not skip breakfast. If you need to go to bed a little earlier so that you can get up 20 minutes earlier each morning ?do it! Breakfast is so important to your good health and to weight control. According to Dr. Barbara Rolls a professor of nutrition at Penn State University, "Your metabolism slows while you sleep, and it doesn't rev back up until you eat again."

      Eating breakfast is not only good for overall weight loss, it will help you stay on track with your diet the rest of the day. You are more likely to binge on something sweet and in the 揵read?group if you skip breakfast.

      You can always keep a couple of hard-boiled eggs in the fridge or some high-fiber, low starch fruit around. If you plan to eat fruit at all during the day, breakfast is the perfect time to do it.

      sounds like ur doing pretty good !! you can lose 10 pounds in even less than 4 weeks, just eat healthy, even healthy foods that have alot of natural sugar, such as carrots, cut down on eatin alot of those, cuz the sugar doesnt do the best, ice cold water helps, u should eat 5 times a day, breakfest, lunch and dinner, and fit in 2 small snacks, always eat breakfest, because if u dont, u will be hungrier by the evening and will tend to eat more by that time, eat a small breakfest, not a big one. stay away from alot of sugar, junk food, walking, sit ups are best, excercising, taking care of yourself, sounds like u are doing pretty good, keep it up and u will lose the weight in no time, good luck!!

    Natural Hormone Therapy?
    This is not so much a question but something I wanted to share with other ladies out there. After posting this question I decided to ask my GYN if he knew of any natural hormone replacement supplements that was backed by clinical research, there is so many out there I didn't know which way to go and because of a history with breast cancer I don't want to go on HRT.
    He sent some information back regarding "DONG QUAI" saying is the only one with clinical proof.
    The estrogen found in the root mimics ours and it also helps as a calming agent for depression, mood swings, weight loss due to water retention and so on, worth reading about.
    It comes in caps and in root form, the root really smells bad when you boil it to make tea.
    Taken orally 6 per day, norn, aft., eve. and it takes 30 days for it to get into your system, the tea is faster but like I said is not very pleasant.
    If you have high blood pressure ask you doctor, mine is always on the low side so is not an issue for me.
    GNC does not carry this product Vitamin Shoppe does and is not expensive.

      Good stuff - I'm impressed that your GYN took the time to do the research. Dong quai (Angelica sinensis) can be very effective to help regulate estrogen and treat/manage mild to moderate estrogen insufficiency.

      Be aware that there are some potential drug interactions and that this herb is contraindicated during pregnancy (strictly CI during first trimester.) In some individuals, it may also cause mild to moderate photosensitivity so don't forget your sun screen.

      Vitex agnus-castus (commonly known as chastetree or chasteberry) is another herb with some good science behind it related to treating PMS/menopause symptoms and fertility issues. Here's a link to results from a quick search on Cochrane database:

    Cat still has diarrhea, advice?
    Well my cat has had diarrhea for over a week now, he's not losing weight, he's eating, drinking normally. Doesn't seem unhappy or lethargic. I've called the vet they won't take payments, so I have no way to pay to take my cat in. I have nobody to borrow money from, and no way to save money.. I don't have a job right now, living off EI at 700 dollars a month, I can't pay a vet bill and keep a roof over our heads right now. Two of my other cats are also experiencing occasional diarrhea, none of them have weight loss or dehydration. My oldest cat doesn't have diarrhea at all. I'm going to take the vets advice and fast them, and then put them on a bland diet of rice and beef. I've fostered kittens and cats so I am wondering if mine may have picked up a bacterial/viral infection from them. When I spoke to the vet from the symptoms it was a large intestine irritation. I've tried yogurt/cottage cheese with no success. But I need to help them whatever way I can to get over this. If I really could afford the vet I would go, but I honestly physically cannot. It's either treat it as I can at home or pay a vet, go broke and lose my home and all my cats.. SO I do not want to hear judgements and "go to the vet". I need real advice and real information that is useful to me to work with what I have. If it comes down to it I will rip a vet off to take them in but I'd rather not. SO besides fasting, bland diet what kind of food is the best to try them on which is best to prevent and help with diarrhea. I can cut costs elsewhere and buy them a more expensive food if it will help. Also is there anything I can give him OTC which can help with digestion, or supplements I can give him to counteract poor nutrient absorption? In fostering I have used L-lysine and several other things to help with kittens who had viral infections, would that help in this case? Any natural, safe and effective OTC treatments you can suggest would be great. I am keeping a close eye on him to make sure he is eating, drinking and not losing weight. He doesn't seem to have any symptoms but the diarrhea. All my cats have been to the vet before, vaccinated, dewormed, fixed. I still have some dewormer from the vet would it help to deworm them all again? or would it irritate the bowel more? They are all indoor cats, well cared for, and fed a decent food. So what can I do on my own?
    No a vet visit here is 75 plus, many of them also charge a mandatory fee on top of the office visit fee for physical examination which is around 50. I just called every vet within 100 miles and NONE take payments. I even tried to apply for the petcard but since I don't have a job I am not eligible. I don't need a diagnosis I just need treatment. Since my cat is not losing weight, vomiting or otherwise ill the vet advised me it is most likely viral or bacterial. The cost for antibiotics is at least 50 dollars I was told.. so I am looking at a minimum of 175 dollars. which would leave me unable to feed my cats or my dogs for the rest of the month. The food bank only gives me food, not my pets. 400 in monthly bills and only 700 a month, that leaves me 300 per month for cat litter , dog food , cat food , my food 0, toilet paper, soap, etc feminine products .. that leaves me 30 dollars extra.. I also dont have a car so gas money to get to vet 1 hr away is at least 20.
    Well thanks but ill never give my cats away just cause Im on hard luck at the moment. If this doesn't work and my peter still has diarrhea I'll just rip off a vet and give a fake name, rather than ever give him away. I'm disinfecting everything right now litter boxes etc. if this is viral as I think it is, the vet can't do anything anyway.. viruses are not treatable with antibiotics.

      I have had healthy cats with diarrhea many times, and have taken them to the vet for treatment, sometimes with no luck. I was told by two different cat breeders to try adding a handful if Iams hairball formula to his regular dry food. It has worked for my cats time and time again. I don't know what the magic ingredient is, but it works!!!!! (Maybe not if there is some kind of infection), but it;s worth a try. If this doesn't work, you really should try to find a way to get them to a vet. Sell something if you have too. It sounds like you really care a lot about your animals.

      I am sorry to say, but there are no pills to treat everything you have on that list.

      Reduce Stress - First, how do you know you have a high cortisol level? Cushings or Addison's are very rare. Get a doctor administered blood test to be sure that is actually the situation. Best stress reliever known to mankind - exercise, no tablet for yet available.

      Naturally Energizing - again, I would suggest exercise.

      Weight Loss - See above.

      Mood Elevating - yep, you guessed it, Exercise is number one again.

      If you want to take a pill for that, then put a sugar pill in your pocket while you go for your daily walk in the park. You will feel much much better.
