The consequence of using other sources of energy can produce by products that can limit muscle contractions and performance. This by-product is called lactate and is the primarily cause of cramps. The body uses phosphocreatine and other chemicals stored in the muscles for anaerobic respiration. Anaerobic exercises would include heavy weight lifting, jump rope, interval training, and other exercises that work specific muscle groups.

Aerobic exercises are usually carried out for longer periods of time than anaerobic exercises. Aerobic exercises are recommended to be worked on for at least 20 minutes and good breathing together with a steady constant supply of oxygen will help you last longer. Anaerobic exercises require a shorter time to do - only 2 minutes. Usually the basis for anaerobic exercises are reps or repetitions and not the duration of the exercise itself. Anaerobic exercising lasting longer can be detrimental and may cause fatigue and cramps in the middle of exercise. This is really painful and often takes longer to recover from.

      If you follow any diet plan and stick to it you will be surprised at the weight you will lose.

      Given your height and weight, your BMI (body mass index) is 19.15. That is WONDERFUL. Your weight is completely normal. You have absolutely 0 need to consider taking a diet pill. Just FYI, BMI is the standard calculation used by doctors to determine if people are at a healthy weight given their height. A BMI < 18 is underweight, 18-25 is normal, 25-30 overweight, and 30+ is considered obese. As you can see, your BMI falls on the lower end of normal. If you were to lose weight it could be unhealthy for your growth and development, and cause different problems for you.

      From what you said you desired to do (lose 4 pounds and tone up your abs), those goals can be accomplished by doing ab workouts at home for 5-10 minutes a day before you go to sleep on the floor of your room, and taking out one piece of junk food per day and substituting it for a healthier alternative. If you're already working out, just make sure you do a brief ab workout daily (your abs can take it) and you'll see improvement in no time. Also, make sure your form for crunches/sit-ups/leg lifts is good. So many people THINK they're doing a good ab workout but it is completely useless. You have to mix things up and do different exercises for your abs or your body will get used to what you are doing and you will see very little benefit from continued training.

      Also, it is considered medically unhealthy to lose more than 1-2 pounds per week. So don't try to drop 4 pounds in 4 days, it won't last.

      Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to take a pill and lose 30 pounds overnight.

      In fact, almost every "fat burning" supplement out there isn't reviewed by the FDA, so there's very little chance you're taking anything effective.

      I'm sure there are vitamin concentrations that can help you lose weight, but there are so many fake medecines claiming to work, it's not worth the risk.

      With the hardcore diet and exercise, you'll lose plenty of weight. However, remember to keep up the cardiovascular and aerobic sections of exercising, to keep your metabolism high. If you only diet and do weight lifting, your body will naturally adjust to use just enough calories and carbohydrates, instead of using all of them and moving on to fat.

      Weight watchers is a great program for weight loss. It really works if you stick with it. And starting out walking 20 minutes a day is awesome, but you'll have to ramp it up to lose the weight. Find a Jazzercise class in your area. Me and my friends swear by it. Go and have fun and don't give up, it gets easier the more you do it. There is a woman in my class that has lost 80 pounds with the WW/Jazzercise combo. And I'm working on it, I feel better than I have in my whole life! Good luck!

      First of all I would take a look at your calorie intake for the day. For example if you write down exactly what you eat and drink for the entire day and do this say for a couple days (you can find the calorie info usually on the packaging of foods - or alternatively you can buy a calorie counting booklet)

      Once you have worked out what your calorie intake is - then you need to consume less calories and incorporate an exercise routine. whether it be running, walking, cycling or going to the gym.

      Lets say you calculate your daily calories at 2000 - well to start losing weight you need to decrease this by a little - say go down to 1800 calories a day - and start your fitness. You will start to see the weight come off - quite quickly using this method.

      The best thing about working out your calories is that it really educates you on how many you are consuming without you realising eg did you know a glass of orange juice actually contains around 500 calories? so if you had a couple these a day theres 1000 calories already, plus if you had a couple meals you would have exceed the 2000 calories - there goes any weight loss.

      You can eat and drink up to 6 - 7 small meals a day that will take 1800 calories - foods like fish, chicken, turkey - even sweet things - you just have to keep a watch of your calorie intake. Once you get the hang of this it will be come second nature to you and you will begin to choose healthier meals that will enable you tomaintain your desired weight.

      - P90x is good...i'm sure you've heard of it
      - Take plenty of glutamine/amino acids to help with recovery...especially if you are working out multiple times/day (Xtend is a good brand)

      For workouts: I would recommend you try one or more of the following:
      - Zuzana's youtube site (not a DVD but has daily workouts...she has one of the best female bodies i've ever seen and her workouts are great) http://www.youtube.com/user/charliejames1975
      - P90x...one of the pioneers for home workouts based on 'muscle confusion' (your body never really gets used to what you're doing and as a result you continue to get results)
      - Insanity...google it, get it. This is the most intense workout ever put on tape

      - eating/nutrition is just as important as working out:

      - Eating and stomach (abs)
      You can (and should) eat 5-6 semi-small nutritious meals...speeds up your metabolism and prevents you from being too hungry. Don't load up with 'tons' of food and don't cut your calories to bare mininum (1K) as this slows down your metabolism.
      You can try eating various things: fresh fruit, chicken, brown rice, broccoli, beef jerky, protein shake, applesauce (no sugar added), veggies, lean ground turkey, turkey sausages, Low sugar protein bars. Oh, and substitute any junk food with Odwalla bars (the choco. chip ones are fabulous and have 8 grams of protein). (2x/wk should be ok)
      If you eat ~7 a.m. ~10 a.m. 1p.m. 4 p.m. 7p.m. (and 10 p.m. if you're up late you should be great. Get your excercise/workout in b/w any of those meals (or directly prior)
      You don't need many weights or machines. You can get one of those ab balls online or at a Target/Wal-mart for like -. Do abs using the ball...always works your core. Also get some resistance bands and you can work your legs (outer thighs) as well. Go for a run or do some sprints to get in better shape. Pick up some sports/activities with your friends.
      - Oblique exercises (twisting - works your 'love handles'). Do a lot of these using the ab ball: sit on the ball hold a 10 lb weight and walk your feet forward. 'Lay down' and with the weigh above you twist to one side-up-pause-twist to the other side. Ensure you're using your obliques to do the work.
      - Start taking a thermogenic fat burner (will burn fat faster when your body temp rises - i.e. working out), ripped fuel 5x, or hydroxycut hardcore before your workouts. Don't exceed the daily recommended allowance and drink plenty of water. You don't NEED these, they just help burn fat faster while providing energy. You could take a multi-vitamin instead (relatively cheap at Wal-mart)

      And eating healthy is not that hard. There are plenty of healthy options easily accessable out there, if you look hard enough.

      They are all expensive and a waste of time. The best way is the natural way. Eat less calories, do more exercise.
