      Losing 1-2lbs a week is the best way to go. This way, you are losing mostly fat, rather than water and muscle. Faster weight loss is not better, nor is it sustainable.

      Diet should be what you look at first for weight loss- this is what will enable you to drop fat. Try a balanced diet made up of mostly natural whole foods, with high protein, moderate carbs and moderate fats.

      You need to know how many calories you burn- you can use an online calculator for a rough estimate. Aim for 10-20% calories fewer than you burn daily (too large a deficit will be counterproductive in the longer term).

      Don't worry about complicated diets or cutting things out. You can enjoy anything in moderation, as long as the majority of your diet is healthy.

      Base your meals around:

      Lean protein (e.g. chicken, tuna, lean beef, fat-free cottage cheese, egg whites)
      Wholegrains (e.g. wholewheat bread, oats, bran cereals, rice)
      Healthy fats (e.g. nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocado, salmon, whole eggs, flaxseed)
      Fruit and veg

      And drink lots of water.

      Second in importance to diet, is heavy resistance training- this is what will allow you to preserve muscle so you look 'toned' and defined once you've dropped the fat (rather than just a smaller version of how you look now, with the same bits you're unhappy with). More muscle also means a higher metabolism, so you definitely want to hold on to, or increase the muscle base you have, for fat loss.

      You need to work ALL your major muscle groups- you can't spot reduce.

      -Three days a week doing full-body workouts. Leave at least a day between each workout.
      -OR four days a week alternating upper and lower body. Don't work out more than two days in a row if possible.

      Then you can look at extras like cardio to help create a calorie deficit. But cardio is by far the least important of these three, and you can lose fat effectively without it.

      Make sure you're getting at least one rest day a week with no exercise at all.

      Focus on losing inches/dress sizes rather than actual scale weight- it's how slim you look that matters, not how little you weigh.

      In regards to loosing the flab, sticking to healthy foods is all you really need to do. Make sure that you are eating enough ie at least 1200 calories and plenty of water/fruits/vegetables. I would try to stay away from having too much processed foods.

      Re exercise - I've found running great for weight loss/toning. You need to get some good cardio going ie. 3 - 4 x a week as that will help you loose the fat. Definitely add some strength work/weights in there as well, you could do a couple of days a week where you do a fully body work out, or do a split (one day arms one day legs etc).

      Your diet/cardio will help you loose the fat, and the strength training will strengthen and tone your muscles and help you look great(er)! :)

    What is the best diet pill for fat loss?
    I need to lose some weight pretty fast. In the past 3 weeks I have changed my diet (cut out all pop, fast food and cut calories) But I have only lost 7 pounds. What is the best diet pills to lose FAT that wont keep me up all night and ill have quick results.
    Currently I weigh 172 and am 5'4. At this point I'd like to only lose 20 lbs for a start. What is the best diet pill I could take?? and where can it be found?

      To lose weight, you need to get your body to use up these stores of fat. The most effective way to do this is to:

      1:) reduce the amount of calories you eat

      2:) increase your levels of activity.

      3:) jog in the morning BEFORE breakfast, since you would have been starving for a long time, the body will use fat supplies as energy!

      Below are ways to reduce calorie intake without having to alter your diet significantly.

      Replace fizzy drinks and fruit cordials with water.
      Swap whole milk for semi-skimmed, or semi-skimmed for skimmed.
      Eat less lunch than usual. For example, make your own sandwich and limit the use of margarine or butter and full-fat mayonnaise (store-bought sandwiches often contain both).
      Stop taking sugar in tea and coffee.
      Have smaller portions of the food you enjoy and avoid having a second helping at dinner.
      Cut out unhealthy treats – such as confectionary, sugary biscuits and crisps between meals.
      Cut down on alcohole intake.

      Don't be tempted to skip breakfast. While skipping a meal will reduce your calorie intake for that hour, it will leave you much hungrier later on.

      Drinking fresh water also helps in removing waste and redundant calories which is great for losing weight and detoxifying the body. Drinking water frequently is a very important to maintaining a healthy diet and losing weight naturally.

      Hello! I would like to dispel a few myths about "dieting".

      First, diets aren't good for your body because mostly they have you restrict your calories (putting your body in starvation mode) thus cannabalizing your muscles.

      Second, most people who go on "diets" gain the weight back.. and some.

      Lastly, you get discouraged and end up either dropping out of eating properly and exercising or you gravitate to the next fad "diet" that you think will work for you.

      Honestly, I don't know your physique, your eating habits currently or your exercise regime to give you "specific" advice. What you need to do is find someone (A mentor) that can guide and direct you in healthy eating, strength and conditioning of your muscles and maintaining your weight once you lose the amount you need.

      I've done heavy research in this area (not only for myself, but for my wife as well) and can recommend some great resources for you to research on your own and find a "system" that works for YOU!

      Foods with high acidity (i.e. tomatoes, grapefruit, oranges, etc.)

      Undereating can make your metabolism slow down so that everything you eat will stick to you like glue, so that's not good, either. Best to just eat moderately. Limit your eating to twice a day, and no snacking in between.

    Best diet/workout for loss of belly fat?
    I had my daughter a year ago, Im back to pre-pregnancy weight BUT its distributed differently. I have more belly fat (along with the stretch marks that will never go away...ugg). Once I lose weight, I maintain it pretty well, its just losing that extra 5-10 pounds that is hard. I also have upper thighs Id like to have get smaller...but mainly the belly Im worried about.

    I take my daughter on a walk daily (as long as weather permits) for about 20-30 minutes as well as doing an ab workout. I eat normally, nothing excessive, but no crazy diet either. Just wondering if there was a jumpstart diet I could do (since I do maintain the weight loss once I get there) and any other workout you suggest. I do have a one year old, so I dont have MUCH time to workout since shes up at 6am daily.

    Any suggestions would be great. Im 24 years old if that matters, I am 5'6 and 160 pounds. I had gained 30 with pregnancy, but got it back off.
    Would Special K diet work to help at all?
    I hate soda, I only drink water...so Ive got that down :) I drink at least 10+ glasses of water a day. I have bad knees so running is really hard for me, but I do have an elliptical I could get back to doing.
    LM- I will try to work up to 45 minutes, but Im no where near that right now. I just did a 40 minute walk pushing my daughter in a stroller, but I was tired after that! I think 15 minutes on the elliptical is probably all I could do right now since I keep a decent speed when on it.

    • ANSWER:
      I can't recommend running highly enough. If you do it for 30-45 mins daily, I guarantee you'll lose weight (you can jog slowly, its more about the length of time and breaking a sweat than speed). I would also suggest you cut out ALL junk food and soda and also try and eat more protein and less carb. You can do this in simple ways by eating some lean meat (chicken or fish - the fresher the better) ..cooked anyway except frying or deep frying... and some vegetables, and don't have carbs like rice/pasta/potatoes. If you dont eat carbs after 6pm you will lose weight in the long term. If you don't want and don't have time for anything excessive, I'd suggest making these simple changes.. they won't have an instant effect but after about 3 months you will certainly see a difference. The running is probably most important though. Running gave me a totally flat stomach (i love junk food..though I try to only eat it now and then and never do sit ups but when you run you naturally tense your stomach muscles and the cardio effect of running burns fat there). Also drink plenty of mineral or filtered water, because it helps your body eliminate waste, and more importantly, fat.

      Serious health "freaks" would say Special K, like all commercial cereals, are loaded with sugars and additives, but in a normal (health-conscious but not obsessive) person's diet, I think it's absolutely fine as a breakfast, much better than many other cereals and gives you necessary vitamins and minerals. I wouldn't suggest the Special K diet in which that is all you eat. Your body needs a variety of different foods and you couldn't do this forever. Changes that you can maintain forever are a better choice (like more exercise and less carbs overall and no carbs at night, etc).

      Eliptical is excellent. If you have one already, I've say just use that. Try and do about 45 mins a day, that will make a big difference. Good luck! :)

      the lipodrene pills do work. they don't have actual ephedra in it though. it has the mua-huang which is the chinese root equivalent of ephedra. the yellow jackets work really well. i lift with a guy who takes them and he loves them. personally, i would get clenbuterol. it's illegal in the US and can only be purchased online. i've taken it, and it works real well. the best "diet" pill i've tried.

      There are no weight loss pills without any side-effects, and for your case where you are already in a healthy BMI weight range and just want to tone a bit... your best case really is exercise. The diet pills on the market seem like a fast fix, but many of them can be addicting. The worst part about them is that they can permanently damage your metabolism...so that weight that you quickly lost, will come back, and be harder to lose in the future. As much as we would all like to think we can target those few bad spots with a miracle drug, the fact of the matter is drugs will target even those spots you don't usually want it to...

      As for people who actually need to lose weight, my recommendation is Xenical. You do need a prescription for it, but it blocks out 1/3 of the excess fat in each meal you consume.

    Hi, I'm 28, Female, 5'3, 123-125 lbs. I am a runner, I train and run in two 1/2 marathons per year. With all this running I cannot seem to cut the fat off my body. I am hungry all the time when I am running and seem to crave sugar and junk, i never gain weight but i never lose it either. I am inspired by women that are very fit and lean. I do NOT want giant, and very pronounced muscles. I want to look fit, toned and sexy. My weight lifting consists of boy-pushups 2 sets of 20, and crunches-leg lifts-plank. Could someone help me get started on diet and an excersize plan or point me in the direction of a great site to visit? Supplements?

      Your described body measurements give me the impression that you're actually quite alluring already and it would be a shame and a crime if anyone kicked you out of bed based on what you're telling us.

      The only advice I'd give you is to get more disciplined with cutting out the junk and sweets immediately after intense exercise. Just don't eat it. You've already demonstrated that you've got the exercise goals within your grasp...just expand it to your food intake.

      Another thing; you didn't really describe in sufficient detail your exercise regimen. You said you trained for two half-marathons in a year, but that leaves a large amount of time not accounted for. Are you running regularly? How much?

      Cross training by bicycling can also benefit you. 2-2 and a half hours of intense bicycling can burn almost as many calories as running, depending on your average running speed.

      4 tins/jars of baby food a day with 4 litres of water lost 10lbs in a week then 5 lbs a week after that in total I lost around 40lbs in 7 weeks doing this. YOU MUST drink the water to drop the weight or u will end up retaining any water frm the baby food.
